Deadline for public comments is May \u200c17.  <\/p>\n<p class=\"readmore\">\n    <button onclick=\"showReadMore()\" id=\"readmorebtn\">Read more&#8230;<\/button>\n<\/p>\n<hr id=\"line\">\n<span id=\"more\"><\/p>\n<div>\n<p><strong>EXCLUSIVE \u2014<\/strong> Conservative advocacy group Heritage Action, the advocacy arm of the Heritage Foundation, has launched a campaign opposing President <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/joe-biden\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"Joe Biden\">Joe Biden<\/a>\u2018s latest moves to cancel <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/student-loans\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"student loans\">student loans<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The group launched a <a href=\"https:\/\/heritageaction.quorum.us\/campaign\/59781\/?utm_source=subscribers&#038;utm_medium=email&#038;utm_campaign=loan-scheme&#038;mkt_tok=ODI0LU1IVC0zMDQAAAGS1FjhorKvLwzUtXAeCjIECXO2iR3cTymJ6P0BCA_W2TP8EAGz2JbctygNjMFpRMXqDlyudKk-iKX1GqEhbwaM\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"comment portal\">comment portal<\/a> in April seeking input from the public on Biden\u2019s plan to cancel or <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/red-state-ags-plot-legal-strategy-to-overturn-bidens-massive-student-debt-bailout\/\" title=\"Red State AGs Plot Legal Strategy to Overturn Biden\u2019s Massive Student Debt Bailout\">reduce student loan debt<\/a> for as many as 30 million borrowers ahead of the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/2024-elections\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">2024<\/a> general election.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAmericans are rightfully furious that Joe Biden is trying yet again to use their money to salvage his plummeting poll numbers,\u201d Heritage Action Executive Vice President Ryan Walker said. \u201cWe are proud to stand with these taxpayers in demanding the Biden administration abandon plans to force all Americans to take on the debt of a select few.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The group says it has already facilitated more than 10,000 comments about the proposal, all of which must be read and taken into consideration by the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/biden-administration\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"Biden administration\">Biden administration<\/a> before implementing the policy. The deadline to submit comments is May 17.<\/p>\n<p>The <em>Washington Examiner <\/em>has reached out to the White House and the Department of Education seeking comment. <\/p>\n<p>Biden launched his initial plan to cancel student loans, which he promised to do during the 2020 campaign, in August 2022. That plan would have canceled up to $20,000 per borrower at a total cost of at least $400 billion but was ruled unconstitutional by the Supreme Court last June. <\/p>\n<p>He has since launched a series of different programs, including more than $150 billion in smaller cancellation rounds and a move to drastically lower future repayments known as the Saving on a Valuable Education, or SAVE, Plan. Eighteen GOP-led states are now <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/news\/white-house\/2943170\/kansas-coalition-states-sues-biden-student-loan-program\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"suing\">suing<\/a> over SAVE, arguing it too is illegal because it was not approved by Congress.<\/p>\n<p>Biden\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/news\/white-house\/2957255\/biden-student-loan-plan-ignoring-gop-legal-challenges\/\" title=\"latest\">latest<\/a> action, which has been in the works for almost a year, would affect roughly 70% of all loanees, according to the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/white-house\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"White House\">White House<\/a>, of which a majority are black or Latino. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cNot only are black students more likely to take on student loans than their white peers, but they also end up holding nearly twice as much debt as their white peers four years after graduation,\u201d the White House said in a release. \u201cAnd Latino borrowers are also more likely to default on their student loans compared to white borrowers.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The plan focuses on five categories of borrowers, including those who owe more than they did at the start of repayment, those eligible for forgiveness who have not applied, those who have been paying for at least 20 years, those enrolled in \u201clow-financial-value programs,\u201d and those <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/biden-rolls-out-new-student-loan-plan-ignoring-gop-legal-challenges\/\" title=\"Biden introduces fresh student loan initiative despite legal obstacles from GOP\">experiencing \u201chardship paying back<\/a> their loans.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>However, the regulation is subject to a public notice and comment period, which is where the Heritage portal comes in.<\/p>\n<p>Heritage Foundation education lead Dr. Lindsey Burke described it as Biden\u2019s \u201cPlan C,\u201d following the first plan, which was struck down in court, and the second one, which is being legally challenged. Burke\u2019s biggest objection is that unpaid debts are transferred to the 87% of U.S. taxpayers who do not have student loans.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe money doesn\u2019t disappear \u2014 the taxpayer picks up the tab,\u201d she said in an interview with the <em>Washington Examiner. <\/em>\u201cThis comment portal is critical because it actually forces the administration to hear from and to read through the concerns of the average American, who will have to bear the brunt of paying for this misguided policy.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The nonpartisan Committee for a Responsible Federal Budget <a href=\"https:\/\/www.crfb.org\/blogs\/total-cost-student-debt-cancellation\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"estimates\">estimates<\/a> the combined total cost of Biden\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/different-student-loans-plan-same-problems-for-biden\/\" title=\"Biden faces similar issues with various student loan plans.\">student loan plans<\/a> will range from $870 billion to $1.4 trillion dollars, which it says is more than all federal spending on higher education over the nation\u2019s entire history.<\/p>\n<p>The student loans issue is coming up again at Wednesday\u2019s press briefing in light of widespread pro-Palestinian protests on college campuses, with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.msn.com\/en-us\/money\/careersandeducation\/pro-palestinian-protests-deal-blow-to-student-loan-forgiveness\/ar-AA1nJb7L\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"conservatives questioning\">conservatives questioning<\/a> why participants should have any loans canceled.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI understand that President Biden, historically, has spoken very forcefully about antisemitism,\u201d a reporter said. \u201cBut this week he\u2019s not.
