(AP Photo\/Chris Carlson)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Beyond removing the church\u2019s ban on hiring <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/gay-marriage\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>homosexual<\/a> clergy, the church also approved of a new measure that forbids district superintendents from penalizing clergy for performing a same-sex wedding or for not performing one. The measure also prevents either forbidding or requiring a church to host a same-sex wedding.<\/p>\n<p><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>CLICK HERE TO READ MORE FROM THE WASHINGTON EXAMINER<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>While Methodist churches in the United States are expected to be the most affected by this change, churches in other regions can still potentially reject this ban\u2019s removal due to being allowed to enforce their region\u2019s rules.<\/p>\n<p>Wednesday\u2019s decision by United Methodist delegates came about 18 months after <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/news\/451696\/mormon-church-backs-same-sex-marriage-ahead-of-respect-for-marriage-act-vote\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>the Mormon Church<\/a> stated that it would preserve the rights of its \u201cLGBTQ brothers and sisters\u201d as long as the church would be given religious freedoms.
