The bipartisan move involved Republicans and Democrats, with the\u200b final vote tally being 16-14. State Senator Jake Hoffman criticized the decision, while Democratic Attorney General Kris Mayes hailed it as a &#8220;win for freedom.&#8221; The \u200brepeal is \u200dnow awaiting Democratic Governor \u200bKatie Hobbs&#8217; expected approval.  <\/p>\n<p class=\"readmore\">\n    <button onclick=\"showReadMore()\" id=\"readmorebtn\">Read more&#8230;<\/button>\n<\/p>\n<hr id=\"line\">\n<span id=\"more\"><\/p>\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/topic\/arizona\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Arizona<\/a> GOP-controlled state Senate voted on Wednesday to pass a repeal of the 160-year-old <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/the-untold-story-of-the-governments-long-history-of-persecuting-pro-life-americans\/\" title=\"The Untold Story Of The Government\u2019s Long History Of Persecuting Pro-life Americans\">law protecting unborn children<\/a> from nearly all abortions after the state\u2019s Supreme Court <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/arizona-supreme-court-upholds-1864-law-protecting-unborn-babies-from-abortion-in-nearly-all-cases\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">allowed<\/a> the law to go into effect last month.<\/p>\n<p>Two Republicans joined 14 Democrats to give the repeal enough votes to pass the state Senate after <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/arizona-house-passes-bill-to-repeal-1864-abortion-law\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">three Republicans voted<\/a> with Democrats in the state House last week to approve the legislation, the Associated Press <a href=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/article\/arizona-abortion-1864-ban-repeal-24578e546b69ca087e01034bcaf4aa01?taid=66329bfc51aaaa000107ec96&#038;utm_campaign=TrueAnthem&#038;utm_medium=AP&#038;utm_source=Twitter\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">reported<\/a>. The final vote tally in the state Senate was 16-14.<\/p>\n<p>State Sen. Jake Hoffman blasted his Republican colleagues who joined with Democrats in passing the repeal.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt is disgusting that this is the state of the Republican Party today,\u201d Hoffman said.<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, Arizona Democratic Attorney General Kris Mayes said the vote is \u201ca win for freedom in our state.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The abortion ban repeal now heads to Democratic Governor Katie Hobbs\u2019 desk, who is expected to sign it. Hobbs has <a href=\"https:\/\/azgovernor.gov\/office-arizona-governor\/news\/2024\/04\/governor-katie-hobbs-statement-extremist-republicans-yet-again\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">condemned<\/a> the abortion ban, saying, \u201cA law from 1864 written by 27 men cannot be allowed to govern the lives of millions of Arizona women.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>If Hobbs signs the bill, state law will revert to a 15-week abortion limitation that was signed into law by former Republican Governor Doug Ducey in 2022. The near-total abortion ban, however, will be in effect for a limited time as the repeal won\u2019t take place until 90 days after the end of the legislative session, which will likely be June or July, according to the AP. Attorney General Mayes said her \u201coffice is exploring every option available to prevent this outrageous 160-year-old law from ever taking effect.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The 1864 law banned abortion in every circumstance except when the mother\u2019s life was in danger. It also punished anyone who aided in an abortion by two to five years in prison. The Arizona Supreme Court upheld the law last month, and said it was \u201cenforceable.\u201d The decision was celebrated by <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/sen-hawley-says-biden-abortion-policies-are-an-insult\/\" title=\"Sen. Hawley says Biden abortion policies are an insult\">pro-life groups<\/a>, such as Susan B.
