Subsequent pressure led to more female-friendly content, with plans to introduce predominantly female superheroes \u200bin the MCU. Despite this approach, financial \u200dchallenges arose, culminating in &#8220;The Marvels&#8221; being the MCU&#8217;s biggest financial failure. The upcoming X-Men \u200breboot will\u2064 reportedly emphasize\u2063 female\u2064 characters.  <\/p>\n<p class=\"readmore\">\n    <button onclick=\"showReadMore()\" id=\"readmorebtn\">Read more&#8230;<\/button>\n<\/p>\n<hr id=\"line\">\n<span id=\"more\"><\/p>\n<header> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/entertainment\/\">  Entertainment <\/a>   <span> <\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/author\/maustin\/\">  <\/a> <\/p>\n<p> <span>   By <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/author\/maustin\/%20\"><span>Michael Austin<\/span><\/a>  and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/author\/%20\"><span> <\/span><\/a> <\/span> <span>   May 1, 2024 at 10:43am <\/span> <\/span>  <\/header>\n<section>\n<p>In 2018, Disney\u2019s Marvel Cinematic Universe \u2014 i.e. its series of interconnected films based on Marvel characters \u2014 began to head in a more female-focused direction.<\/p>\n<p>Disney initially sought out the purchase of brands like Star Wars (via Lucasfilm) and Marvel to add more <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/bob-chapek-denies-disney-has-become-too-wokebob-chapek-denies-disney-has-become-too-woke\/\" title=\"Bob Chapek Denies Disney Has Become \u201cToo Woke\u201dBob Chapek Denies Disney Has Become \u201cToo Woke\u201d\">male audiences<\/a> to its already strong hold on the female market (thanks to the company\u2019s many animated and Disney princess properties).<\/p>\n<p>However, internal and external pressure from progressive activists pushed the company to make its newly bought predominantly male-marketed properties more \u201cdiverse\u201d and female-friendly.<\/p>\n<p>This all culminated in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/marvel-studios-boss-reportedly-confirms-trans-superheroes-coming-absolutely-yes\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Marvel Studios<\/a> head Kevin Feige\u2019s 2018 interview with <a href=\"https:\/\/screenrant.com\/marvel-mcu-female-heroes\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Screen Rant<\/a>, where he revealed \u201cmore than half\u201d of the MCU\u2019s superheroes would \u201csoon\u201d be \u201cfemale.\u201d Over the next six years, Disney lived up to that promise.<\/p>\n<p>The MCU became the \u201cM-She-U.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Every new show and movie introduced super-powered <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/emilia-clarkes-new-comic-book-centers-on-a-single-mom-whose-powers-are-derived-from-her-period\/\" title=\"Emilia Clarke\u2019s New Comic Book Centers On A Single Mom Whose Powers Are Derived From Her Period\">female heroes<\/a>. Even in properties starring male heroes, more often than not the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=6CPLb5S8hVI\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">most heroic moments<\/a> were saved for the newly-introduced female characters.<\/p>\n<p>Yet, the more female-centric Marvel movies and TV shows grew, the smaller their audiences became. Since 2019, the studio has <a href=\"https:\/\/screenrant.com\/mcuy-avengers-box-office-post-endgame-releases-strange\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">failed to maintain<\/a> the consistent box office success it was once known for. This all culminated in 2023 with \u201cThe Marvels.\u201d The film was arguably the MCU\u2019s most female-centric property \u2014 and undoubtedly <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/another-woke-disney-flop-marvels-crashes-6-5-million-opening-night\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">its biggest financial failure<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p> <iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"Marvel Studios' The Marvels | Official Trailer\" width=\"500\" height=\"281\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/wS_qbDztgVY?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>Based on the brand\u2019s deteriorating financial state, it could be surmised that turning the \u201cboy brand\u201d that is Marvel into a \u201cgirl brand\u201d was a mistake. True as that may be, based on a new <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/tensions-reportedly-rise-between-sen-schumer-gov-cuomo\/\" title=\"Tensions reportedly rise between Sen. Schumer, Gov. Cuomo\">insider report<\/a>, it appears that the company has failed to learn that lesson.<\/p>\n<div id=\"firefly-poll-container\">\n<p>Is Disney ruining its Marvel properties?<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<p>According to Hollywood insider <a href=\"https:\/\/www.patreon.com\/posts\/103223819?utm_campaign=postshare_creator&#038;utm_source=android\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Daniel \u201cDanielRPK\u201d Richtman\u2019s Patreon<\/a>, the MCU\u2019s upcoming reboot of the X-Men franchise will reportedly be more \u201cfemale-focused.\u201d<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p dir=\"ltr\" lang=\"en\">X-MEN NEWS \u274c<\/p>\n<p>\u2013 Marvel Studios is looking for a writer who can expertly balance comedy and drama.<\/p>\n<p>\u2013 Focus on the female characters.<\/p>\n<p>\u2013 They want to introduce new characters, ones that haven\u2019t been in live-action before, alongside the main ones we all know.<\/p>\n<p>(Source: <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/DanielRPK?\">@DanielRPK<\/a>) <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/9nAkHllrxW\">pic.twitter.com\/9nAkHllrxW<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 MCU Film News (@MCUFilmNews) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/MCUFilmNews\/status\/1784735795615813849?\">April 29, 2024<\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Back before <a href=\"https:\/\/www.npr.org\/2019\/03\/20\/705009029\/disney-officially-owns-21st-century-fox#:~:text=Disney%2DFox%20Entertainment%20Merger%20Is%20Official%20In%20%2471.3%20Billion%20Deal%20%3A%20NPR&#038;text=Press-,Disney%2DFox%20Entertainment%20Merger%20Is%20Official%20In%20%2471.3%20Billion%20Deal,compete%20against%20other%20streaming%20powerhouses.\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Disney acquired 21st Century Fox<\/a> in 2019, the company didn\u2019t quite have access to several Marvel properties that had been licensed to the latter studio, namely characters connected to the X-Men and Fantastic Four.<\/p>\n<p>Since that purchase, however, Disney-Marvel has been <a href=\"https:\/\/deadline.com\/2023\/09\/x-men-movie-writer-pitches-next-marvel-development-1235558844\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">gearing up to introduce<\/a> the mutant-powered superhero team to its MCU.<\/p>\n<p>Though, as with many other post-2018 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/major-marvel-star-says-quiet-part-loud-admits-favorite-mcu-film-came-decade-ago\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">MCU<\/a> flicks, Richtman maintains that the film will focus on the team\u2019s female heroes.<\/p>\n<p>In both the Disney Plus series <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hollywoodreporter.com\/tv\/tv-features\/ms-marvel-latest-x-men-marvel-cinematic-universe-breadcrumb-1235180717\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">\u201cMs. Marvel\u201d<\/a> and the aforementioned 2023 <a href=\"https:\/\/nerdist.com\/article\/the-marvels-post-credits-scene-explained-fox-xmen-join-the-mcu\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">\u201cThe Marvels\u201d<\/a> film, the MCU has already set up the potential inclusion of at least two female heroes.<\/p>\n<p>Now, it is true that the comic book property boasts perhaps some of Marvel\u2019s most popular female heroes.<\/p>\n<p>Those include heroes such as Storm, Rogue and Jean Grey.<\/p>\n<p>However, what is indisputable is that the team\u2019s most popular character \u2014 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/deadpool-wolverine-plot-follows-tired-modern-trend-turning-popular-male-heroes-washed-failures\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Wolverine<\/a> \u2014 is a man. In addition, two other characters, the team\u2019s founder and the character most often portrayed as its leader \u2014 Professor X and Cyclops respectively \u2014 are also men.<\/p>\n<p>Launching a new series of X-Men movies without any of these characters at its core would be an odd choice.
