Critics question his ties to terror-related associations, challenging his \u2062judicial appointment.  <\/p>\n<p class=\"readmore\">\n    <button onclick=\"showReadMore()\" id=\"readmorebtn\">Read more&#8230;<\/button>\n<\/p>\n<hr id=\"line\">\n<span id=\"more\"><\/p>\n<div>\n<p>An attorney nominated by President <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/joe-biden\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>Joe Biden<\/a> to a lifetime appointment on the federal judiciary donated to at least two Democratic state political candidates who led groups linked to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/hamas\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>Hamas<\/a>, the <em>Washington Examiner<\/em> has found. <\/p>\n<p>Adeel Mangi, who <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/news\/2932114\/biden-judicial-nominee-chances-dead-as-jimmy-hoffa-after-manchin-opposition\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>faces an uphill battle<\/a> to confirmation in the Senate due to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/schumer-on-impeachment-senate-will-conduct-a-timely-and-fair-trial\/\" title=\"Schumer on Impeachment: Senate will conduct a timely and fair trial\">lawmakers raising concerns<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/news\/2906704\/biden-judicial-pick-anti-israel-activists-event-sponsored-terrorism-tied-group\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>over his ties<\/a> to an anti-Israel think tank and other left-wing <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/news\/senate\/2929588\/biden-judicial-nominees-chances-wane-senators-opposition\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>groups<\/a>, contributed to the since-failed campaigns of Tahanie Aboushi, who ran in 2021 for Manhattan district attorney, and Zead Ramadan, a 2013 New York City Council hopeful. The donations have not been previously reported and are public in New York state campaign finance records.<\/p>\n<p>Aboushi is a civil rights lawyer who received support on the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/central-african-republic-votes-under-threat-of-violence\/\" title=\"Central African Republic votes under threat of violence\">campaign trail<\/a> from anti-Israel <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2020\/08\/24\/biden-camp-apologizes-to-muslim-dems-after-condemning-sarsour\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>activist<\/a> Linda Sarsour and who used to be president of the New York chapter of Palestine Children\u2019s Relief Fund, a group scrutinized for partnerships with Hamas-affiliated entities. Meanwhile, Ramadan is on the board of New York\u2019s chapter of the Council on American-Islamic Relations, which reportedly counted him <a href=\"https:\/\/www.politico.com\/states\/new-york\/city-hall\/story\/2013\/01\/zead-ramadan-president-of-cair-ny-braces-for-a-city-council-run-006701\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>as<\/a> the president in 2013. CAIR was <a href=\"https:\/\/www.investigativeproject.org\/documents\/case_docs\/423.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">named<\/a> by federal prosecutors as an \u201cunindicted co-conspirator\u201d of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/hamas\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Hamas<\/a> in a 2009 terrorism financing case involving the Holy Land Foundation for Relief and Development, a defunct charity shuttered by the U.S. government for providing material support to Hamas.<\/p>\n<p>News of the nominee\u2019s donations to the ex-candidates, which amounted to $100 to Aboushi and $600 combined to Ramadan, comes after Republicans and a handful of Democrats <a href=\"https:\/\/www.reuters.com\/legal\/government\/third-us-senate-democrat-vote-against-muslim-judicial-nominee-mangi-2024-03-28\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>said<\/a> they won\u2019t support Mangi based on some of his controversial affiliations. Following a <em>Washington Examiner<\/em> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/news\/2906704\/biden-judicial-pick-anti-israel-activists-event-sponsored-terrorism-tied-group\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>report<\/a>, Mangi <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/news\/2914722\/biden-nominee-apologizes-to-senate\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>apologized<\/a> in March to the Senate Judiciary Committee for failing to disclose his participation in an event with activists from an anti-Israel <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/policy\/education\/2855816\/democrats-take-cash-from-lawyers-under-investigation\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>center<\/a> at Rutgers Law School that Mangi donated to and helped advise. Mangi, who would be the first Muslim-American judge on a federal appeals court, is also on an advisory board for the Alliance of Families for Justice, which fights to end \u201cmass incarceration\u201d and has ties to police killers, the <em>Washington Free Beacon<\/em> <a href=\"https:\/\/freebeacon.com\/biden-administration\/historic-biden-judicial-nominee-sits-on-board-of-group-founded-by-cop-killing-domestic-terrorist\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>reported<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Mangi did not return a request for comment. The White House has stood behind the\u00a0nominee and referred to GOP criticism of Mangi\u2019s role on the Rutgers group, which <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/news\/2850471\/senate-biden-judicial-pick-anti-israel-group-terrorism\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>hosted a 2021 event<\/a> featuring a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/bidens-historic-muslim-judicial-nominee-served-on-board-of-<a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/republican-jewish-coalition-rips-raphael-warnock-for-hatemongering-and-anti-israel-beliefs\/\" title=\"Republican Jewish Coalition Rips Raphael Warnock for \u2018Hatemongering\u2019 and Anti-Israel Beliefs\">anti-israel<\/a>-terrorist-loving-think-tank\/&#8221; title=&#8221;Biden&#8217;s nominee linked to anti-Israel think tank with terrorist sympathies&#8221;>convicted terrorist fundraiser<\/a>, as \u201ccruel and Islamophobic.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThere\u2019s more evidence building up every day of Mangi\u2019s connections to terror apologists and pro-terror groups. It\u2019s shocking to me that this administration continues to defend his nomination. There are lots of great Muslim-American lawyers who don\u2019t have these ties to anti-cop and pro-terror groups,\u201d said Carrie Severino, president of the Judicial Crisis Network. The conservative group <a href=\"https:\/\/judicialnetwork.com\/in-the-news\/jcn-launches-digital-ad-campaign-blasting-biden-judicial-nominee-adeel-mangi\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>has<\/a> slammed the Rutgers think tank for appearing to blame Israel for the Oct. 7 Hamas-led terrorist attack last year on the Jewish state.<\/p>\n<figure><figcaption>Circuit Court Judge Nominee Adeel Abdullah Mangi testifies during a Senate Judiciary Committee hearing on judicial nominations at the Capitol in Washington, D.C., on Wednesday, December 13, 2023. (Graeme Sloan\/Sipa USA)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Aboushi, the Democratic ex-candidate in New York that Mangi backed, came under fire in 2021 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.jns.org\/islamist-connections-revealed-in-nations-most-consequential-district-attorney-race\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>from<\/a> <em>Jewish News Syndicate<\/em> for having \u201ca history of consorting with extremists and antisemites.\u201d Aboushi did not return a request for comment from the <em>Washington Examiner<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>She has <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/TahanieNYC\/status\/1235916664283201536\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>called<\/a> Sarsour, who backed <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/lsarsour\/status\/1404580441705922569\">her<\/a> candidacy and supports the Boycott, Divestment, and Sanctions, or BDS, movement against Israel, \u201ca fearless sister.\u201d On Oct. 14, 2023, just days after the Hamas-led terrorist attack against Israel that left roughly 1,200 dead in the Jewish state, Aboushi posted a graphic on her Facebook profile that read, \u201cI stand with Palestine.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Aboushi served as president of Palestine Children\u2019s Relief Fund in New York in 2015 and 2014, as well as vice president of PCRF in 2013 and 2012, documents show. She <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/search?q=%40tahanienyc+icna&#038;src=typed_query\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>has<\/a> appeared to tout collaborating with the Islamic Circle of North America, which shares leadership with Jamaat-e-Islami, an international Islamist group said to be responsible <a href=\"https:\/\/www.reuters.com\/article\/idUSKCN0Y12EH\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>for<\/a> genocide and other war crimes during the 1971 Bangladesh War of Independence.<\/p>\n<p>In 2004, the <em>New York Times<\/em> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.reuters.com\/article\/idUSKCN0Y12EH\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>reported<\/a> the Hamas-tied Holy Land Foundation for Relief and Development attempted to route $50,000 to PCRF. <\/p>\n<p>On its 2022 annual report, PCRF <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pcrf.net\/cached_uploads\/download\/2023\/04\/17\/website-copy-1681764657.pdf#page=7\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>lists<\/a> a partnership with Islamic Relief Palestine, an <a href=\"https:\/\/www.linkedin.com\/company\/islamic-relief-palestine\/?originalSubdomain=uk\">affiliate<\/a> of Islamic Relief Worldwide. The State Department <a href=\"https:\/\/2017-2021.state.gov\/islamic-relief-worldwide\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>in<\/a> 2020 accused Islamic Relief Worldwide of being antisemitic, citing its leadership\u2019s prior praise for Hamas as \u201cthe purest resistance movement in modern history\u201d that is full of \u201cgreat men\u201d answering the \u201cdivine and holy call of the Muslim Brotherhood.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Ramadan, the other Democratic candidate Mangi supported, was disclosed by CAIR New York on its 2022 tax forms as the group\u2019s board\u2019s vice president. <\/p>\n<p>The Investigative Project on Terrorism, a nonprofit research group, has <a href=\"https:\/\/www.investigativeproject.org\/3406\/the-new-york-times-collaborates-with-hamas-front\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>accused<\/a> Ramadan of pledging cash in the past at a fundraiser to a group that has also funded Hamas.<\/p>\n<p>Reached by the <em>Washington Examiner<\/em>, the CAIR New York board member said he has no personal relationship with Mangi, the Biden judicial nominee. <\/p>\n<p>The relationship between the Biden administration and CAIR, however, has been rocky.<\/p>\n<p>Nihad Awad, CAIR national director, asserted last year he \u201cwas happy to see\u201d Palestinians \u201cbreak the siege\u201d on Oct. 7, prompting the White House to call Awad\u2019s comments \u201cshocking\u201d and \u201cantisemitic.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBy choosing repeatedly to associate himself and financially support groups and individuals that espouse radical, antisemitic, and anti-Israel views, Mr. Mangi makes clear where he stands,\u201d said Taylor Reidy, a spokeswoman for Senate Judiciary Committee Republicans. The panel\u2019s ranking member, Sen. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/lindsey-graham\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>Lindsey Graham<\/a> (R-SC), has repeatedly called on Biden to withdraw Mangi from consideration.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title><strong>CLICK HERE TO READ MORE FROM THE WASHINGTON EXAMINER<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n<p>New York state records show Mangi also donated in the past to the Muslim Democratic Club of New York, an organization <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/search?q=israel%20(from%3AMDCNY)&#038;src=typed_query&#038;f=live\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>pressing<\/a> Biden to stop supporting Israel.<\/p>\n<p>The Muslim Democratic Club of New York did not return a request for comment, nor did the White House.<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<p><\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>A lawyer chosen by President Biden for a federal judgeship contributed to Democratic candidates with Hamas ties.
