However,\u200c mirroring recent trends, the\u200b film risks portraying \u2062Wolverine as a\u2063 disillusioned character, echoing similar arcs seen in\u2063 other \u200dmodern cinematic depictions of beloved male heroes.  <\/p>\n<p class=\"readmore\">\n    <button onclick=\"showReadMore()\" id=\"readmorebtn\">Read more&#8230;<\/button>\n<\/p>\n<hr id=\"line\">\n<span id=\"more\"><\/p>\n<header> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/entertainment\/\">  Entertainment <\/a>   <span> <\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/author\/maustin\/\">  <\/a> <\/p>\n<p> <span>   By <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/author\/maustin\/%20\"><span>Michael Austin<\/span><\/a> <\/span> <span>   April 30, 2024 at 5:20pm <\/span> <\/span>  <\/header>\n<section>\n<p>Unlike most Disney-Marvel films produced today, the upcoming \u201cDeadpool &#038; Wolverine\u201d has many fans genuinely excited.<\/p>\n<p>The teaming up of two iconic characters brought to life by generation-defining acting talent \u2014 Ryan Reynolds and Hugh Jackman as the titular heroes \u2014 may finally bring the Marvel Cinematic Unvierse back into relevance\u2026 at least for a brief moment.<\/p>\n<p>But the film is by no means a surefire fit.<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p dir=\"ltr\" lang=\"et\">Hughkatana Matata! <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/hashtag\/DeadpoolAndWolverine?src=hash&#038;ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">#DeadpoolAndWolverine<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/hashtag\/LFG?src=hash&#038;ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">#LFG<\/a> \u2764\ufe0f\ud83d\udc9b <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/cyEyEy0Wte\">pic.twitter.com\/cyEyEy0Wte<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Deadpool Movie (@deadpoolmovie) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/deadpoolmovie\/status\/1782399670012256751?\">April 22, 2024<\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>If Disney fails to learn the right lessons from the studio\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/year-flopbuster-2023s-10-biggest-box-office-failures\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">growing list of modern box office flops<\/a>, \u201cDeadpool &#038; Wolverine\u201d may find itself added to that list.<\/p>\n<p>A recently released <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/deadpoolmovie\/status\/1782393946888618347\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">trailer<\/a> for the film, set to hit theaters July 26, suggests that one of the studio\u2019s most criticized modern tropes will yet again rear its head in the superhero epic.<\/p>\n<p>More specifically, the film may do to Jackman\u2019s Wolverine what films like \u201cIndiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny\u201d and \u201cStar Wars: The Last Jedi\u201d did to other similarly lauded male heroes like Indiana Jones and Luke Skywalker \u2014 it\u2019ll turn him into a washed-up, disillusioned failure.<\/p>\n<p>Based on the trailer, the plot of \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/director-matt-vaughn-claims-deadpool-3-will-save-whole-marvel-universe-jolt\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Deadpool &#038; Wolverine<\/a>\u201d will see the mercenary-turned-antihero Deadpool traverse the multiverse to stop a yet-to-be-revealed existential threat.<\/p>\n<div id=\"firefly-poll-container\">\n<p>Do you enjoy Disney-Marvel films?<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<p>At some point on this journey, the Merc with a Mouth (as he\u2019s affectionately referred to in the comic book fandom) will need to recruit a version of Wolverine from the multiverse.<\/p>\n<p>The trailer makes it clear that this Wolverine is not the heroic X-Men leader many have grown used to seeing Jackman portray over the years.<\/p>\n<p>Rather, he\u2019s a retired drunk who, at some point in the past, failed to save his own world.<\/p>\n<p>As mentioned above, this is a trope Disney is well-known for at this point.<\/p>\n<p>Most famously, \u201cStar Wars: The Last Jedi,\u201d which was hyped as the heroic return of Luke Skywalker, revealed that, decades after the events of Star Wars: The Return of the Jedi,\u201d Luke had failed in his efforts to build a new Jedi order, almost attempted to murder his own nephew and had completely given up all hope.<\/p>\n<p>Luke actor Mark Hamil was one of many fans who thought director Rian Johnson\u2019s decision to undermine Luke\u2019s heroism was out of line with the character.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI said to Rian, \u2018Jedis don\u2019t give up.\u2019 I mean, even if [Luke] had a problem, he would maybe take a year to try and regroup, but if he made a mistake, he would try and right that wrong, so right there, we had a fundamental difference,\u201d Hamil said according to <a href=\"https:\/\/collider.com\/the-last-jedi-mark-hamill-on-luke-skywalker\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Collider<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI almost had to think of Luke as another character. Maybe he\u2019s \u2018Jake Skywalker,\u2019 he\u2019s not my Luke Skywalker. But I had to do what Rian wanted me to do because it serves the story well.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Similarly, in 2023\u2019s \u201cIndiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny,\u201d the beloved character of Indiana Jones is revealed to have separated from his wife.
