Such is the story of Cheng \u201cCharlie\u201d Saephan, a humble immigrant from Laos residing in Portland, Oregon, who won a staggering $1.<a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/powerball-what-everyone-needs-to-know-about-1-73-billion-jackpot\/\" title=\"Powerball: .73 billion jackpot essentials\">3 billion jackpot<\/a> in the midst of a recurring battle with cancer.<\/p>\n<p>In the midst of this battle, Saephan, 46, found himself drawn to a simple act of faith: prayer.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI prayed to God to help me,\u201d Saephan said, according to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxbusiness.com\/lifestyle\/oregon-lottery-identifies-1-3-billion-powerball-jackpot-winners-one-fighting-cancer\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Fox Business<\/a>. \u201cMy kids are young, and I\u2019m not that healthy.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Little did he know that his prayer would be answered in a most unexpected way.<\/p>\n<p>A chance purchase of a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/mega-millions-player-scores-5th-largest-jackpot-lotterys-history\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Powerball ticket<\/a> before the April 7 drawing, made with the encouragement of a friend \u2013Laiza Chao, who reportedly gave Saephan $100 toward his purchase over 20 tickets for the game \u2014 would lead to a moment of divine intervention.<\/p>\n<p>Saephan\u2019s ticket, acquired at a Portland-area Plaid Pantry convenience store, bore the numbers that would unlock a staggering <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/massive-delay-powerball-jackpot-worth-1-billion-won\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">$1.3 billion jackpot<\/a>, the fourth-largest Powerball jackpot and the eighth largest lottery in the history of the United States.<\/p>\n<p>Saephan is splitting his winnings with his wife, Duanpen, and Chao.<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p dir=\"ltr\" lang=\"en\">The $1.3 billion Powerball winner from Portland decided to take the lump sum of $422 million, and after splitting it with his wife and friend, he will walk away with $211 million after taxes.
