They demand \u2062transparency on the agency&#8217;s stance and recommendations regarding IVF practices,\u200b citing concerns about embryo destruction and genetic screening. Josh Brecheen of Oklahoma, Andrew Clyde of Georgia, and Matt Rosendale of Montana released a <a href=\"https:\/\/first-heritage-foundation.s3.amazonaws.com\/live_files\/2024\/04\/Josh-Brecheen-Letter-to-CDC.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">letter<\/a> to CDC Director Mandy Cohen on Tuesday <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailysignal.com\/2024\/04\/30\/exclusive-cdc-provide-transparency-troubling-ivf-practices-congressman-says\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">demanding answers<\/a> about her agency\u2019s knowledge and recommendations regarding the \u201cdestruction of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/why-is-the-left-so-quick-to-dispose-of-women\/\" title=\"Why Is The Left So Quick To Dispose Of Women?\">precious life<\/a> in the in vitro fertilization (IVF) industry.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Citing the \u201cgovernment\u2019s role in securing the natural right to life\u201d noted in the Declaration of Independence, the Republicans worried that Big Fertility \u201chas long operated under the radar of lawmakers in the United States.\u201d <\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhile other Western countries prohibit clinics from practicing eugenics or carelessly destroying human life, the U.S. does not even require clinics to be transparent about their participation in these activities,\u201d they wrote. <\/p>\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/nccd.cdc.gov\/drh_art\/rdPage.aspx?rdReport=DRH_ART.ClinicInfo&#038;rdRequestForward=True&#038;ClinicId=9999&#038;ShowNational=1\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">CDC\u2019s latest artificial reproductive technology (IVF) data<\/a> suggests Americans undergo hundreds of thousands of IVF cycles each year. Since standard practice in American IVF requires harvesting and fertilizing multiple ova to increase chances of successful lab conception, hundreds of thousands of IVF cycles suggests <a href=\"https:\/\/www.catholicnewsagency.com\/news\/257066\/more-human-embryos-destroyed-through-ivf-than-abortion-every-year\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">millions of embryos<\/a> are created and either destroyed or abandoned in freezers each year as well. <\/p>\n<p>As the congressmen point out in their letter, fertility facilities are not required to share how many embryos they are responsible for manufacturing, freezing, or discarding each year. Nor is the domestic Big Fertility market under any obligation to disclose to anyone \u201cstatistics on their application of genetic screening, which more than 70% of fertility clinics utilize for sex-selection.\u201d <\/p>\n<p>\u201cAdvancing technology raises further concerns that clinics will use genetic screening to choose the \u2018best\u2019 embryos based on traits like eye or hair color, complexion, or potential height. In the U.S., this technology is already used to select or discard embryos based on eye color,\u201d the representatives warned. <\/p>\n<p>By May 29, the congressmen would like the CDC to provide specific answers about the number of embryos that are manufactured, cryogenically stored, and discarded each year and the average length of time embryos are frozen. They also want data on how many embryos undergo screening for physical traits and whether those results dictated the embryos\u2019 fates. <\/p>\n<p>Additionally, the Republicans asked the CDC to share its IVF recommendations including the number of embryos created, how non-implanted embryos are treated and destroyed, and genetic screening. <\/p>\n<p>They concluded by questioning whether the CDC has \u201cany moral or ethical concerns\u201d about ART practices like the ones listed above. According to them, the rapidly expanding U.S. practice of legalized eugenics should not continue unchecked. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cCongress cannot allow clinics to continue concealing these activities, which <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/israel-war-john-kirby-calls-genocide-accusations-against-israel-pretty-inappropriate\/\" title=\"Israel war: John Kirby calls 'genocide' accusations against Israel 'pretty inappropriate'\">carry significant moral<\/a> and ethical implications, from the public,\u201d the Republicans concluded. <\/p>\n<p>This is not the first time members of Congress have raised eyebrows about the free pass U.S. lawmakers have given the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/big-fertility-harms-babies-and-women-so-why-are-we-celebrating-it\/\" title=\"Big Fertility Harms Babies And Women So Why Are We Celebrating It?\">fertility industry<\/a>. Rosendale and Brecheen were part of a small coalition of House Republicans <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2024\/03\/21\/house-republicans-press-va-over-shocking-ivf-policy-funding-motherless-kids\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">who publicly opposed<\/a> the Department of Veterans Affairs\u2019\u00a0plan to use taxpayer dollars to fund IVF for single and same-sex veterans. They attributed their \u201cvery strong objections\u201d to the fertility industry\u2019s longstanding <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2022\/12\/14\/we-need-to-get-serious-about-meeting-advances-in-reproductive-tech-with-an-actionable-moral-framework\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">immoral<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2022\/07\/25\/as-reproductive-technology-advances-remember-just-because-we-can-doesnt-mean-we-should\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">unethical<\/a> practices.<\/p>\n<p>Even corporate media, which has <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2024\/04\/22\/media-suddenly-concerned-about-embryos-because-theyre-palestinian\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">eagerly sided against<\/a> protecting life in its most vulnerable form, has begun to question whether Big Fertility could use <a href=\"https:\/\/www.npr.org\/2024\/03\/06\/1235907160\/alabama-lawmakers-pass-ivf-immunity-legislation\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">less immunity<\/a> and more oversight. \u201cMost IVF errors go unreported in the lightly regulated fertility industry,\u201d <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/health\/2024\/04\/28\/ivf-errors-fertility-clinics-regulation\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">one Washington Post headline blared. <\/a><\/p>\n<p>Another headline in Vox lamented that ART such as egg freezing, which is often pitched to young women as a way to preserve and prolong their fertility, is <a href=\"https:\/\/www.vox.com\/health\/24141538\/egg-freezing-cost-age-ivf-fertility-pregnancy\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">not the success it is made out to be by many in pop culture and media.<\/a><\/p>\n<hr>\n<p>      Jordan Boyd is a staff writer at The Federalist and co-producer of The Federalist Radio Hour.
