New York state law allows fines of up to $1,000 for each gag order violation. Blue for the Washington Post\/ Pool)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>The decision comes days after a hearing was held to determine whether Trump\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/final-straw-hollywood-reporter-sources-say-disney-wanted-to-fire-carano-in-november\/\" title=\"\u2018Final Straw\u2019: Hollywood Reporter Sources Say Disney Wanted To Fire Carano In November\">recent social media posts<\/a> about certain witnesses in the case truly violated the order, including whether <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/news\/justice\/2975445\/judge-declines-to-rule-immediately-on-whether-trump-reposts-violated-gag-order\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"merely reposting content\">merely reposting content<\/a> others had written about the case amounted to a violation.<\/p>\n<p>Trump lawyer Todd Blanche argued last week that his client was responding to political attacks, adding there was \u201cabsolutely no willful violation of the gag order.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The former president released a statement on Wednesday decrying the gag order as \u201ctotally UNCONSTITUTIONAL!\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe Conflicted Judge\u2019s friends and party members can say whatever they want about me, but I am not allowed to respond,\u201d Trump posted to Truth Social last Tuesday. He also <a href=\"https:\/\/truthsocial.com\/@realDonaldTrump\/posts\/112324666380272121\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"ripped\">ripped<\/a> the judges who presided over a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/biden-nominee-jessica-clarke-muffs-john-kennedys-basic-question-during-hearing-you-want-to-take-another-crack-at-that\/\" title=\"Biden Nominee Jessica Clarke Muffs John Kennedy\u2019s \u2018Basic\u2019 Question During Hearing: \u2018You Want To Take Another Crack At That?\u2019\">civil fraud case<\/a> against the Trump Organization, Justice Arthur Engoron, and who oversaw his defamation trial, Judge Lewis Kaplan.<\/p>\n<p>The order in the hush money case prevents Trump from making statements about attorneys, court staff members, or the family members of prosecutors, lawyers, judges, and Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg, an elected Democrat who brought the 34-count hush money case against the former president. Trump contends this violates his First Amendment rights and prevents him from defending against attacks by his critics.<\/p>\n<p>Also last week, Trump targeted his former attorney Michael Cohen, a key witness for the prosecution, calling him a \u201cconvicted liar\u201d who got in trouble \u201cbecause of things outside of what he did for me,\u201d according to 6ABC Philadelphia.<\/p>\n<p>Cohen was sentenced to three years in prison in 2019 for fraud and campaign finance violations and for lying to Congress.<\/p>\n<p>Prosecutors also alleged during the Tuesday hearing last week that Trump violated the gag order when he spoke in the halls of the courtroom on Monday, when he referred to \u201call the lies\u201d from Cohen.<\/p>\n<p><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">CLICK HERE TO READ MORE FROM THE WASHINGTON EXAMINER<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Trump faces 34 felony counts of falsifying business records in connection to reimbursing Cohen, who had paid porn star Stormy Daniels $130,000 in the lead-up to the 2016 election to remain quiet about an alleged affair with Trump.<\/p>\n<p>Prosecutors told the court last week they were not seeking an \u201cincarceratory\u201d penalty for violating the order but emphasized the defendant\u2019s recent actions seem \u201cto be angling for that.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<p><\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Former President Trump was ordered by Justice Juan Merchan to pay $9,000 for repeatedly breaching a gag order during his New York hush money trial.
