Emmanuel<\/span><\/a> <\/span> <span>   April 30, 2024 at 6:39am <\/span> <\/span>  <\/header>\n<section>\n<p>With President Joe Biden dropping like a rock in the polls, some countries that have become used to the United States bankrolling them may be getting nervous.<\/p>\n<p>Heading that list would likely be <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/mitch-mcconnell-takes-public-shot-tucker-carlson-accuses-turning-republicans-ukraine-aid\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Ukraine<\/a>, which has received about $72 billion from U.S. taxpayers since February 2022, according to the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ifw-kiel.de\/topics\/war-against-ukraine\/ukraine-support-tracker\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Kiel Institute<\/a>, with another $60 billion on the way via a package Biden signed into law on Wednesday, according to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nbcnews.com\/politics\/congress\/senate-hold-key-test-vote-ukraine-aid-israel-funding-tiktok-ban-rcna148685\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">NBC News<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The ink had barely dried on that spending bill when the Biden administration announced another $1 billion in equipment for that country, according to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnn.com\/2024\/04\/26\/politics\/us-long-term-military-aid-ukraine\/index.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">CNN<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>That was followed Friday by the announcement of a \u201c$6 billion long-term military aid package for Ukraine \u2014 the largest to date,\u201d the outlet reported.<\/p>\n<p>So it\u2019s not surprising that Ukraine President <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/zelenskyy-now-asking-peace-conference-approaches-swiss-help\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Volodymyr Zelenskyy<\/a> is frantically working on securing a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/china-and-russia-agree-to-build-joint-moon-base\/\" title=\"China and Russia Agree to Build Joint Moon Base\">long-term agreement<\/a> with the United States \u2014\u00a0\u00a0one specifically designed to bind Washington to Kyiv\u2019s defense well beyond the current administration.<\/p>\n<p>Zelenskyy revealed on Sunday that negotiators between the two countries are hammering out the details of a bilateral pact that would guarantee <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/taliban-surges-as-u-s-withdraws-from-afghanistan\/\" title=\"Taliban surges as U.S. withdraws from Afghanistan\">military hardware<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/zelensky-says-ukraine-u-s-working-on-deal-for-military-financial-and-political-support-spanning-a-decade\/\" title=\"Zelensky and U.S. Collaborating on 10-Year Support Deal for Ukraine\">joint arms production<\/a> as well as financial assistance to Ukraine over the next decade.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe are already working on a specific text,\u201d Zelenskyy said in a Sunday evening address, according to the German news agency <a href=\"https:\/\/www.yahoo.com\/news\/ukraine-us-working-long-term-181346998.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">DPA<\/a>. \u201cOur goal is to make this agreement the strongest of all.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>He added, \u201cWe are discussing the specific foundations of our security and cooperation. We are also working on fixing specific levels of support for this year and the next 10 years.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Zelenskyy said the U.S. support \u201cwould range from military hardware to joint arms production and financial aid,\u201d according to DPA.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe agreement should be truly exemplary and reflect the strength of American leadership,\u201d the Ukraine president said.<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p dir=\"ltr\" lang=\"en\">Zelensky announces that Ukraine is working on a security agreement with the U.S. that will fix levels of support for the next 10 years. The next two U.S. presidents won\u2019t be able to switch it off. <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/q1RWCxf93m\">pic.twitter.com\/q1RWCxf93m<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 David Sacks (@DavidSacks) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/DavidSacks\/status\/1784645178558763159?\">April 28, 2024<\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>Earlier this month, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.politico.com\/news\/2024\/04\/02\/allies-consider-moving-ukraine-arms-group-into-nato-to-shield-it-from-trump-00150151\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Politico<\/a> reported that the Biden administration was considering proposals to transfer the U.S.-led Ukraine Defense Contact Group, which coordinates weapons shipments to Ukraine, to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/zelenskyy-fumes-natos-unprecedented-absurd-decision-ukraine-membership\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">NATO\u2019s<\/a> control to \u201cTrump-proof\u201d it.<\/p>\n<p>It said the move was \u201cone of several new proposals that could help maintain the flow of arms to Kyiv under a second Donald Trump presidency.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The Ukraine Defense Contact Group, launched by Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin and former Joint Chiefs Chairman Gen. Mark Milley in the early weeks of Russia\u2019s invasion, has streamlined the delivery of tens of billions of dollars in weapons, equipment and other aid to Ukraine, according to Politico.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThere\u2019s a feeling among, not the whole group but a part of the NATO group, that thinks it is better to institutionalize the process just in case of a Trump re-election. And that\u2019s something that the U.S. is going to have to get used to hearing because that is a fear and a legitimate one,\u201d Jim Townsend, a former <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/dod-contracted-firm-direct-access-servicemembers-kids-small-detail-reveals-pentagon-really-paying-report\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Pentagon<\/a> and NATO official, told the outlet.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cPulling this under NATO kind of isolates it from a Trump presidency,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n<p>On March 1, 2022, about two weeks after <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/russias-treatment-isis-suspects-remind-libs-gentle-9-11\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Russia<\/a> invaded Ukraine, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cbsnews.com\/live-updates\/russia-ukraine-news-kyiv-war-putin-invasion-talks-today\/#post-update-8de46653\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">CBS News<\/a> reported that U.S. lawmakers were told that the war would likely last \u201c10, 15 or 20 years \u2014 and that ultimately, Russia will lose.\u201d<\/p>\n<div id=\"firefly-poll-container\">\n<p>Should the United States continue to support Ukraine?<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<p>How anyone can predict the outcome of a war that lasts 20 years is difficult to comprehend, especially when even mundane economic forecasts such as the price of eggs are routinely missed.<\/p>\n<p>Not to mention that the U.S. failed to foresee the eventual outcome of our own decades-long war in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/soldier-says-charged-4000-gear-told-leave-behind-afghanistan\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Afghanistan<\/a>, which does not lend much credibility to the accuracy of the government\u2019s prophetic powers.<\/p>\n<p>But what if that prediction is right?<\/p>\n<p>The U.S. economy is flailing, and Americans are struggling to make ends meet.<\/p>\n<p>We cannot continue funding a war that could go on for decades and, worse, be committed to it by an administration determined to keep the war machine funded.<\/p>\n<p>Our government could take a page out of the book of Republican Rep. Victoria Spartz, the first and only Ukraine-born member of Congress.<\/p>\n<p>Spartz, who represents Indiana\u2019s 5th Congressional District, voted against the $61 billion in aid, saying she opposed giving\u00a0\u00a0\u201cblank checks\u201d to Ukraine, according to <a href=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/article\/indiana-primary-election-victoria-spartz-ukraine-57fb403caa6a9bbe459639baacfdb7fa\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">The Associated Press<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMy responsibility is the protection of American people,\u201d she said in an interview.<\/p>\n<p>If only the president felt the same way.<\/p>\n<hr>\n<div>\n<p><b><i>A Note from Our Deputy Managing Editor:<\/i><\/b><\/p>\n<p><i><span>\u201cWe don\u2019t even know if an election will be held in 2024.\u201d Those 12 words have been stuck in my head since I first read them. <\/span><\/i><\/p>\n<p><i><span>Former Lt.
