This trial, centered\u2064 on falsifying records, marks \u200da crucial legal challenge for the former president.  <\/p>\n<p class=\"readmore\">\n    <button onclick=\"showReadMore()\" id=\"readmorebtn\">Read more&#8230;<\/button>\n<\/p>\n<hr id=\"line\">\n<span id=\"more\"><\/p>\n<div>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/author\/donald-trump\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Donald Trump<\/a> will be back in a <a href=\"http:\/\/washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/new-york\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>New York<\/a> criminal court on Tuesday, when a banker who played a role in the hush money payment to a porn star will resume testimony over his links to the former president\u2019s ex-attorney and fixer, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/michael-cohen\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Michael Cohen<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>On Friday, testimony ended with Gary Farro, a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/american-elites-have-deep-ties-to-a-new-chinese-spy-chief\/\" title=\"American Elites Have Deep Ties To A New Chinese Spy Chief\">senior managing director<\/a> at the now-defunct First Republic Bank in New York, who described setting up an account in October 2016 for Cohen to make a $130,000 payment to Stormy Daniels, the adult film actress who claims she had an affair with Trump in 2006. Santiago\/Pool Photo via AP)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Farro is expected to take the witness stand again Tuesday morning, while presiding Judge Juan Merchan may also decide whether Trump should pay up to $10,000 for several recent statements and online posts prosecutors say violated his gag order.<\/p>\n<p>The hush money payment is at the core of the charges Trump is facing in the first-ever criminal trial against a former U.S. president. Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg, an elected Democrat, is charging Trump with 34 counts of falsifying business records to hide reimbursements of the funds that Cohen paid to Daniels to keep her silent about the alleged affair. Trump has said the payments were for Cohen\u2019s legal work, has denied the affair, and has pleaded not guilty to all the counts.<\/p>\n<p>Last week, David Pecker, the former CEO of the tabloid company American Media, Inc., testified for four days about his \u201ccatch-and-kill\u201d practice, which involved paying sources for the rights to their negative stories about <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/ilhan-omar-other-leftists-distract-from-capitol-attack-by-focusing-on-gun-control-and-racism\/\" title=\"Ilhan Omar, Other Leftists, Distract From Capitol Attack By Focusing On Gun Control And Racism\">high-profile figures<\/a> and then never publishing the stories.<\/p>\n<p>Prosecutors sought to showcase during their questioning how Pecker did this on three occasions for Trump to help him with the 2016 election, while defense attorneys <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/news\/justice\/2980966\/trump-attorney-uncovers-inconsistency-peckers-catch-and-kill-testimony\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">poked<\/a> holes in Pecker\u2019s testimony and illustrated how he had a long pattern of catching and killing stories for many public figures, not just the former president.<\/p>\n<p>Here is what to expect on Tuesday as the hush money trial enters its third week:<\/p>\n<figure><figcaption>Gary Farro, a private client adviser who previously worked at First Republic Bank, testifies on the witness stand in a Manhattan criminal court on Friday, April 26, 2024. (Elizabeth Williams via AP)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<h2>Banker who worked with Cohen takes back the stand<\/h2>\n<p>Farro confirmed from the witness stand last week that he wrote an internal email on Oct. 13, 2016, that read, \u201cNeed an account opened for Mike Cohen immediately. He wants no address on the checks. (Elizabeth Williams via AP)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<h2>Trump could face $10,000 gag order fine as judge sets additional contempt hearing<\/h2>\n<p>Merchan has yet to rule on whether Trump has violated a gag order that bars him from publicly attacking witnesses and jurors.<\/p>\n<p>After an initial batch of 11 alleged violations, Merchan held a hearing on April 23 to address prosecutors\u2019 claims, and prosecutors since then have alleged four more violations transpired throughout the course of last week\u2019s trial.<\/p>\n<p>While the use of temporary detention is an optional punishment for <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/trump-trial-prosecutors-unveil-plans-to-cross-examine-trump-in-hush-money-case\/\" title=\"Trump trial: Prosecutors to question Trump in hush money case\">gag order violations<\/a>, prosecutors have not yet sought confinement for the former president and have opted to seek fines for Trump at $1,000 per violation, the limit under New York state law.<\/p>\n<p>Merchan has scheduled a hearing for Thursday on whether to hold Trump in contempt of court for the other <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/trump-trial-judge-to-decide-if-former-president-violated-gag-order\/\" title=\"Judge to Determine if Trump Breached Gag Order in Trial\">alleged gag order violations<\/a>.<\/p>\n<figure><figcaption>Former President Donald Trump speaks with construction workers at the construction site of the new JPMorgan Chase headquarters in midtown Manhattan on Thursday, April 25, 2024. (AP Photo\/Yuki Iwamura)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<h2>2024 campaign in the courtroom likely to continue for Trump<\/h2>\n<p>Trump last week ramped up his campaign from the courtroom between breaks in his hush money trial, which is expected to last through about the end of May.<\/p>\n<p>The Republican presidential contender said he would debate President Joe Biden \u201cANYWHERE, ANYTIME, ANYPLACE\u201d and would even \u201cwait around\u201d the courthouse Friday after the Democratic incumbent went on the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/news\/campaigns\/presidential\/2981399\/trump-challenges-biden-debate-at-courthouse\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"Howard Stern Show in the Big Apple.\">Howard Stern Show in the Big Apple<\/a> and said he would debate his Republican rival at some point during the race.<\/p>\n<p>Last Thursday, Trump also took the opportunity to gain more free media by descending on the row of news outlets stationed outside the courthouse. Earlier that day, Trump also visited a construction site where he was <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/news\/campaigns\/presidential\/2979106\/trump-greeted-usa-chants-visit-new-york-construction-site\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">greeted by \u201cUSA\u201d chants<\/a> as he entered a crowded area filled with workers and fans.<\/p>\n<p>Trump is likely to continue using his time spent in between his courtroom appearances to campaign.
