Attorney General Merrick Garland might have to generate a report regarding the effects of heightened illegal immigration on\u2064 law\u2064 enforcement across various levels, following the introduction of the Police Our Border Act of \u200d2024 by\u2064 Rep. The bill is designed to tackle the issues arising \u2062from the influx of \u2063migrants and \u200cnarcotics attributed to\u2064 open border policies.  <\/p>\n<p class=\"readmore\">\n    <button onclick=\"showReadMore()\" id=\"readmorebtn\">Read more&#8230;<\/button>\n<\/p>\n<hr id=\"line\">\n<span id=\"more\"><\/p>\n<div>\n<p><strong>EXCLUSIVE \u2014 <\/strong>Attorney General Merrick Garland could be forced to conduct a report on how the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/policy\/immigration\/2855042\/number-immigrants-encountered-border-major-decline\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>surge of illegal immigration<\/a> at the southern border is affecting law enforcement officials at the federal, state, and local levels under a new bill being introduced this week.<\/p>\n<p>Rep. Anthony D\u2019Esposito (R-NY) introduced the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.scribd.com\/document\/727801591\/Police-our-Border-Act-of-2024\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>Police Our Border Act of 2024<\/a> on Monday which would require Garland to submit a report to Congress detailing the effects the border crisis has had on law enforcement, according to a copy of the bill first obtained by the <em>Washington Examiner. <\/em>The bill is expected to be considered by the House Judiciary Committee this week and will be brought to the floor for consideration during <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/news\/182726\/republicans-celebrate-national-police-week-with-pro-law-enforcement-bills\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>National Police Week<\/a> next month. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cThanks to the open border policies of President Biden and Secretary Mayorkas, law enforcement agencies across the country are being overwhelmed by the millions of migrants and large quantities of dangerous narcotics like fentanyl flowing into the United States,\u201d said D\u2019Esposito, a retired detective with the New York Police Department. <\/p>\n<p>Under the legislation, Garland would be required to include specific information in his report, including the estimated cost of all resources used to address the influx of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/texas-refuses-bidens-request-to-help-with-covid-19-testing-at-border\/\" title=\"Texas Refuses Biden\u2019s Request to Help With COVID-19 Testing at Border\">illegal immigrants coming<\/a> into the country as well as \u201cthe extent to which such resources are not available to law enforcement agencies.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The report must also include information on how much exposure <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/georgia-secretary-of-state-investigating-voter-registration-group-run-by-democrat-raphael-warnock\/\" title=\"Georgia Secretary Of State Investigating Voter Registration Group Run By Democrat Raphael Warnock\">law enforcement officers<\/a> have to fentanyl while encountering illegal immigrants crossing the southern border as well as any injuries sustained while on the line of duty. The bill would also require a section that details the morale of law enforcement officers. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe Police Our Border Act will create a mechanism to quantify just how debilitating the Biden border crisis has been to law enforcement professionals, and ensure this failing administration is held accountable for the chaos it has caused around our nation,\u201d D\u2019Esposito said. \u201cI have worn the badge of an NYPD Detective, and I will not allow my brothers and sisters in blue to suffer.\u201d <\/p>\n<p>If passed, the bill would require Garland to submit the report to Congress within 180 days, or roughly six months, of its approval. <\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\"><strong>CLICK HERE TO READ MORE FROM THE WASHINGTON EXAMINER<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The legislation comes as lawmakers continue to focus their efforts on stemming the rise of illegal immigration at the southern border, which has become a hot-button topic on Capitol Hill and a major point of contention in the 2024 election cycle. <\/p>\n<p>Lawmakers have wrestled for months with how to address the surge of illegal immigration but have ultimately been unable to pass legislation that has substantial support in both the Republican-led House and Democratic-led Senate.
