The firm, which is representing Adams in the investigation involving the Turkish government\u2019s connection to his campaign, has already been paid $730,000 by the mayor\u2019s legal defense fund. In addition, Adams is eying to hire Randy Mastro as the city\u2019s corporation counsel, which would earn Mastro $250,000 a year. However, that is if the city council nominates and confirms him for the position.<\/p>\n<p>Attorney Alex Spiro, known for his <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/nancy-pelosis-husband-finally-charged-with-dui\/\" title=\"Nancy Pelosi\u2019s Husband Finally Charged With DUI\">high-profile clients<\/a>, including Elon Musk, Jay-Z, and Alec Baldwin, was hired by the city to represent Adams in the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/durham-report-raises-security-questions\/\" title=\"Durham Report Raises Security Questions\">sexual assault lawsuit<\/a>. The city will be paying Spiro $250 an hour. According to Adams and his legal team, hiring outside legal representation frees up <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/prosecutors-offer-plea-deal-to-nyc-lawyers-who-firebombed-police-vehicle\/\" title=\"Prosecutors Offer Plea Deal to NYC Lawyers Who Firebombed Police Vehicle\">city lawyers<\/a> to focus on matters such as cases related to the migrant crisis.  <\/p>\n<p>However, some question whether it\u2019s appropriate for taxpayer dollars to cover the mayor\u2019s legal expenses, especially regarding his sexual assault case.<\/p>\n<p>Basil Smikle, director of the Public Policy Program at Hunter College, questioned if the investigation and lawsuit would distract Adams from being able to fulfill his duties as mayor. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cIf you need this much firepower, how problematic are these cases and how much is that going to distract you from governance?\u201d Smikle <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2024\/04\/29\/nyregion\/eric-adams-lawyers.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>told<\/a> the <em>New York Times<\/em>. <\/p>\n<p>However, Adams is not the first New York official to have his legal troubles covered by taxpayers. <\/p>\n<p>Former Mayor Bill de Blasio cost the city more than $10 million for taxpayer-funded defense lawyers in the face of a federal investigation, and former Gov.
