Kennedy Jr., Daily Wire Editor Emeritus Ben Shapiro challenged Kennedy on how he squares his stance on abortion with the Catholic faith he grew up in.<\/p>\n<p>During their hour-and-a-half discussion, Shapiro challenged Kennedy\u2019s position on abortion in particular. Shapiro explained that abortion opponents are concerned about the child\u2019s bodily autonomy as well as the mother\u2019s, and pointed out that the Catholic Church opposes abortion. Like many in his family, Kennedy is a Catholic.<\/p>\n<p>Kennedy said he believes every abortion is a \u201ctragedy,\u201d but that the issue is \u201cmore nuanced and complex.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Shapiro responded that abortion is, \u201cnot just a tragedy. It\u2019s a crime against the child because the child has an <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/ben-shapiro-outlines-strongest-case-for-being-pro-life-on-lex-fridman-podcast\/\" title=\"Ben Shapiro Outlines \u2018Strongest Case\u2019 For Being Pro-Life On Lex Fridman Podcast\">independent interest<\/a>. What do you say to that?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI say that I understand that position, and I don\u2019t agree with it,\u201d Kennedy said, adding that he believes\u00a0\u201cthe solution of having the state come in and dictate choices that a woman is making is not a good solution.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYou don\u2019t believe that the child has an independent right to life, for example, at any point during the pregnancy?\u201d Shapiro asked.<\/p>\n<p>Kennedy said he doesn\u2019t think any woman obtains an abortion in the eighth month for a \u201cfrivolous reason\u201d and that the abortions that do occur that late in pregnancy have an \u201cextenuating circumstance.\u201d He said he does not want to give government the power in those situations.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYou know, you and I will differ on that,\u201d Kennedy said. \u201cAnd I understand your position. He emphasized that American society should do everything it can to make sure women have \u201cother choices,\u201d especially when it comes to pregnant women who lack the money to support a child.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI don\u2019t think that that should ever be a reason in this country for a woman not carrying her child to term,\u201d Kennedy said.<\/p>\n<p>The Sunday Special discussion, which can be viewed on DailyWire+, also touched on how people can find community in the modern technology-saturated world.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe death of church, the death of community in the United States, that seems to be one of the giant creeping problems that everyone is ignoring, the fact that we do in fact need people to go to church,\u201d Shapiro said. \u201cWhat do you think is going to happen in terms of community building? How do we fill that gap?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Kennedy said he tends to \u201cviscerally agree\u201d with Shapiro\u2019s point, but he added that, \u201cchurches don\u2019t necessarily bring people together.
