Politicians are in debate over the regulations, especially concerning the allowance of whole milk. \u2062These changes by the USDA are targeted at enhancing\u200b children&#8217;s nutrition\u2064 but have stirred controversy.  <\/p>\n<p class=\"readmore\">\n    <button onclick=\"showReadMore()\" id=\"readmorebtn\">Read more&#8230;<\/button>\n<\/p>\n<hr id=\"line\">\n<span id=\"more\"><\/p>\n<div>\n<p>Flavored milk <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/policy\/education\/2977978\/usda-announces-plan-sugar-limits-school-meals\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"will remain\">will remain<\/a> in the lunchrooms of America\u2019s public schools, according to new <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/biden-administration\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"Biden administration\">Biden administration<\/a> guidelines, but the food fight will continue on other fronts.<\/p>\n<p>The U.S. Department of Agriculture will set sugar and sodium <a href=\"https:\/\/www.usda.gov\/media\/press-releases\/2024\/04\/24\/biden-harris-administration-announces-new-school-meal-standards#:~:text=For%20the%20first%20time%2C%20added,factored%20into%20this%20new%20limit.\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"limits\">limits<\/a> on school lunches beginning in fall 2025, which should allow for chocolate and strawberry milk to remain on the menu. However, some popular cereals such as <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cinnamontoastcrunch.com\/products\/cinnamon-toast-crunch\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Cinnamon Toast Crunch<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.luckycharms.com\/products\/original-lucky-charms\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Lucky Charms<\/a>, and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cheerios.com\/products\/honey-nut-cheerios\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Honey Nut Cheerios<\/a> won\u2019t make the cut, and 2% and whole milk will remain banned as they have been <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/news\/2626229\/house-passes-bill-allowing-whole-milk-in-schools-but-it-may-spoil-in-the-senate\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"since 2012\">since 2012<\/a>. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cRather than respecting the decades of work undertaken by school nutritionists and local professionals, the [USDA] still wants to push regulations that run counter to the nutritional quality that students deserve in their meals,\u201d Rep. Virginia Foxx (R-NC) said. \u201cThe proof is in the pudding \u2014 though if you asked the department, it would want to regulate that out of existence too.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Earlier this year, the House of Representatives passed the Whole Milk for Healthy Kids <a href=\"https:\/\/www.congress.gov\/bill\/118th-congress\/house-bill\/1147\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Act<\/a> by a 330-99 vote, a bill that would restore higher fat milk to the nation\u2019s public schools, with even a slim majority of Democrats voting in favor. However, the bill has languished in the Democratic-controlled Senate ever since.<\/p>\n<p>Rep. The changes will be rolled out between late 2025 and 2027. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe all share the goal of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/first-lady-melania-trump-announced-as-guest-of-honor-for-log-cabin-republicans\/\" title=\"First Lady Melania Trump announced as guest of honor for Log Cabin Republicans\">helping children reach<\/a> their full potential,\u201d Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack said when the rules were announced. \u201cLike teachers, classrooms, books, and computers, nutritious <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/the-irreversible-consequences-of-school-closures\/\" title=\"The Irreversible Consequences of School Closures\">school meals<\/a> are an essential part of the school environment, and when we raise the bar for school meals, it empowers our kids to achieve greater success inside and outside of the classroom.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The spilled milk is part of a wider fight between the Biden administration and conservatives who accuse it of micromanaging or serving as a \u201cnanny state\u201d infringing on quotidian daily tasks. Related issues involve whether or not to ban <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/gas-stoves\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"gas stoves\">gas stoves<\/a> or subsidize <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/electric-vehicles\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"electric vehicles\">electric vehicles<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Industry groups such as the International Dairy Foods Association and Dairy Farmers of America mostly praised the USDA\u2019s regulations, saying that most existing brands of chocolate and strawberry milk already fall below the new limit of 10 grams of added sugar per 8-ounce serving. <\/p>\n<p>IDFA took issue with sugar limits on yogurt, which it said can serve as a meat alternative, and argued that dairy fat uniquely delivers positive health outcomes that would benefit children.
