If negotiations falter, military intervention in \u2063Rafah is being considered.  <\/p>\n<p class=\"readmore\">\n    <button onclick=\"showReadMore()\" id=\"readmorebtn\">Read more&#8230;<\/button>\n<\/p>\n<hr id=\"line\">\n<span id=\"more\"><\/p>\n<header> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/news\/\">  News <\/a>   <span> <\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/author\/russdavis\/\">  <\/a> <\/p>\n<p> <span>   By <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/author\/russdavis\/%20\"><span>Jack Davis<\/span><\/a> <\/span> <span>   April 28, 2024 at 12:39pm <\/span> <\/span>  <\/header>\n<section>\n<p>Israel is considering a hostage deal with Hamas that could lead to a pause, and eventual end, in military action even if Hamas is not defeated.<\/p>\n<p>A report from <a href=\"https:\/\/www.axios.com\/2024\/04\/27\/israel-gaza-ceasefire-humanitarian-hostage-release\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Axios<\/a>, citing two unidentified Israeli officials, said the deal includes a willingness to talk about \u201crestoration of sustainable calm\u201d in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/biden-gets-called-hypocrisy-calls-israels-gaza-strike-outrageous\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Gaza<\/a>, which it noted would be the first time Israel has been willing to even talk about an end to the war before Hamas is destroyed.<\/p>\n<p>The report said Israel is working with Egypt on drafting the plan that was presented to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/hamas-leader-gives-chilling-response-hearing-sons-grandchildren-killed\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Hamas<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The proposal includes language that could lead to Palestinians from northern Gaza \u2013who have been driven from their homes by the Israeli offensive that followed murderous Oct. 7 Hamas attack on Israel \u2014 returning to their homes.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe hope that what we have proposed is enough to bring Hamas into serious negotiations. We hope Hamas sees we are serious about reaching a deal \u2014 and we are serious,\u201d one Israeli official said, according to Axios.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThey should understand that it is possible that if the first stage is implemented, it will be possible to advance to the next stages and reach the end of the war.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Under the proposal, according to a report in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wsj.com\/world\/middle-east\/egypt-pitches-new-proposal-for-hamas-israel-cease-fire-6f04f174\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">The Wall Street Journal<\/a>, Hamas would be expected to release 20 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/chilling-palestinian-poll-answers-show-israel-finish-job-wipe-hamas-terrorists\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">hostages<\/a> in exchange for 500 Palestinian prisoners held by Israel, the priority for release given to female, sick and elderly hostages, the Journal reported.<\/p>\n<p>A report in the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.timesofisrael.com\/israel-tells-egypt-its-giving-hostage-deal-last-chance-before-launching-rafah-op\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Times of Israel<\/a> said the number of hostages to be freed would be 35, not 20.<\/p>\n<p>The report quoted what it said was a senior Israeli official who was not named saying talks have been \u00a0\u201cvery good, focused, held in good spirits and progressed in all parameters.\u201d<\/p>\n<div id=\"firefly-poll-container\">\n<p>Do you stand with Israel?<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<p>The official noted that Israel is ready and willing to enter Rafah, the last <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/beto-orourke-blames-gop-for-texas-natural-disaster-calls-culture-debates-stupid\/\" title=\"Beto O\u2019Rourke Blames GOP For Texas Natural Disaster, Calls Culture Debates \u2018Stupid\u2019\">major city<\/a> in Gaza it has not touched, if talks fail.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIn the background, there are very serious intentions from Israel to move ahead in Rafah,\u201d the report said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis is the last chance before we go into Rafah,\u201d the official said.<\/p>\n<p>War Cabinet Minister Benny Gantz said any deal to bring back hostages should take priority, according to the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.timesofisrael.com\/gantz-far-right-ministers-issue-dueling-ultimatums-to-pm-over-hostage-deal-rafah-op\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Times of Israel<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>He said although attacking Rafah \u201cis important in the long struggle against Hamas, the return of our hostages \u2014 who were abandoned by the government on October 7 \u2014 is urgent and of far greater importance.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIf a responsible outline is reached for the return of the hostages with the backing of the entire security establishment \u2014 which does not involve ending the war \u2014 and the ministers who led the government on October 7 prevent it, the government will have no right to continue to exist and lead the campaign,\u201d Gantz said, according to the Times of Israel.<\/p>\n<p>The newspaper noted that Gantz made the statement after Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich took the opposite view \u2014 declaring that the deal was a \u201chumiliating surrender to the Nazis on the backs of hundreds of IDF soldiers\u201d who died in Gaza.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIf you decide to fly a white flag and cancel the order to conquer Rafah immediately to complete the mission of destroying Hamas and restore peace for the residents of southern Israel and all of the country\u2019s citizens, and return our abducted brothers and sisters who are held hostage to their homes \u2013 then the government you head will have no right of existence,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<hr>\n<div>\n<p><b><i>A Note from Our Deputy Managing Editor:<\/i><\/b><\/p>\n<p><i><span>\u201cWe don\u2019t even know if an election will be held in 2024.\u201d Those 12 words have been stuck in my head since I first read them. <\/span><\/i><\/p>\n<p><i><span>Former Lt.
