The Republican National \u200cConvention has\u2064 requested the Secret \u2063Service to\u200b move the\u200b First Amendment protest zone in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, from a city park near the convention venue to Red Arrow Park, \u2064half\u200c a mile away. \u200cThis relocation \u2063is driven by security concerns and\u200b aims \u2062to minimize interactions between event attendees and protesters.  <\/p>\n<p class=\"readmore\">\n    <button onclick=\"showReadMore()\" id=\"readmorebtn\">Read more&#8230;<\/button>\n<\/p>\n<hr id=\"line\">\n<span id=\"more\"><\/p>\n<div>\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/rnc\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"Republican National Convention\">Republican National Convention<\/a> is reportedly requesting the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/secret-service\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"Secret Service\">Secret Service<\/a> move the First Amendment <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/protests\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"Republican National Convention\">protest zone<\/a> away from the arena in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/milwaukee\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"Milwaukee\">Milwaukee<\/a>, Wisconsin, where the party is slated to hold its <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/virginia-shuts-down-elections-site-ahead-of-key-republican-deadline\/\" title=\"Virginia Shuts Down Elections Site Ahead of Key Republican Deadline\">nominating convention<\/a> for the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/2024-elections\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"Republican National Convention\">2024 election season<\/a>. <\/p>\n<p>According to recent reports, the RNC is requesting that the agency move the protest zone from the nearby city park a quarter-mile from the arena due to security concerns for event attendees.<\/p>\n<p>The RNC is scheduled to hold its <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/nevada-to-hold-first-presidential-primary-of-2024-election-cycle\/\" title=\"Nevada To Hold First Presidential Primary Of 2024 Election Cycle\">presidential nominating convention<\/a> at the Fiserv Forum in downtown Milwaukee, near the Milwaukee River. The Pere Marquette Park, which abuts the river, is the currently designated free speech zone outside of the event.<\/p>\n<p>Attorney for the RNC Rod Steggerda wrote to the Secret Service, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/news\/white-house\/2607240\/biden-appoints-new-director-to-lead-the-secret-service\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"Kimberly Cheatle\">Kimberly Cheatle<\/a>, that the current location of the protest zone \u201cwill force thousands of peaceful attendees and demonstrators, who may otherwise choose to avoid or limit direct, proximate engagement with one another, to be in extremely close, consistent, and unavoidable proximity.\u201d<\/p>\n<figure><figcaption>Google Maps image of the Fiserv Forum, Pere Marquette Park, and Red Arrow Park in downtown Milwaukee<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>The RNC is reportedly instead requesting the protest zone be moved half a mile away to Red Arrow Park, according to a person familiar with the matter who spoke to the <em><a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/politics\/2024\/04\/26\/republican-national-convention-protests-milwaukee\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"Washington Post\">Washington Post<\/a><\/em>  on condition of anonymity. Red Arrow Park is across the river from the event center and directly adjacent to the Milwaukee City Hall.<\/p>\n<p>A spokesperson for the Secret Service told the <em>Washington Examiner<\/em> that they have not received a letter from the RNC, but the agency \u201cwill respond through appropriate channels\u201d upon its arrival.<\/p>\n<p>The spokesperson added that the security plan for national special events like this \u201cis developed and approved through an executive steering committee made up of representatives from the Secret Service as well as supporting federal, state, and local agencies.\u201d<span><\/span>The spokesperson continued, \u201cThe operational security plan is based on a variety of thorough security assessments established in coordination with our partners, with the express mission being to ensure the highest level of safety and security for the convention.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The city of Milwaukee\u2019s chief of staff, Nick DeSiato, told the outlet that the city is facing significant pushback from protesters who want to be closer to the convention. He also said that the security perimeter is \u201cexclusively established by the Secret Service.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">CLICK HERE TO READ MORE FROM THE WASHINGTON EXAMINER<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>The RNC did not respond to the <em>Washington Examiner<\/em>\u2019s request for comment.<\/p>\n<p>The Fiserv Forum was slated to be the location of the 2020 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/dnc\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"Democratic National Committee\">Democratic National Committee<\/a>\u2019s nominating convention prior to a location shift amid concerns over the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/coronavirus\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"Democratic National Committee\">COVID-19 pandemic<\/a>.
