This resolution follows ongoing legal battles surrounding attorney fees and Spears&#8217;s allegations \u200bagainst her father. Despite the conservatorship&#8217;s termination in November 2021, Spears&#8217;s freedom is now fully realized, as\u200c confirmed \u200bby her \u200dattorney, Matthew Rosengart, to CNN. Spears was placed under \u2063her father&#8217;s conservatorship in 2008, stemming from publicized personal struggles. Spears, more than two years after the court-ordered termination of her conservatorship that gave him control over her affairs.<\/p>\n<p>The terms of the settlement were not disclosed following court filings made by both parties in the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/california\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"Los Angeles\">Los Angeles<\/a> Superior Court on Thursday, as legal battles persisted over attorney fees and Spears\u2019s allegations of her father\u2019s improper behavior during the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/police-perform-wellness-check-on-britney-spears-after-panicked-fans-call-them-over-deleted-instagram-account\/\" title=\"Police Perform Wellness Check On Britney Spears After Panicked Fans Call Them Over Deleted Instagram Account\">13-year-long conservatorship<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAlthough the conservatorship was terminated in November 2021, her wish for freedom is now truly complete,\u201d Spears\u2019s attorney, Matthew Rosengart, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnn.com\/2024\/04\/27\/entertainment\/britney-spears-settles-conservatorship-legal-dispute\/index.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"told\">told<\/a> <em>CNN<\/em> in a statement. \u201cAs she desired, her freedom now includes that she will no longer need to attend or be involved with court in this matter.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Spears was <a href=\"https:\/\/www.businessinsider.com\/inside-britney-spears-conservatorship-freebritney-movement-2020-12#around-this-time-spears-lawyer-wallet-resigned-as-co-conservator-but-didnt-give-a-reason-for-his-resignation-this-left-her-father-jamie-as-the-sole-conservator-7\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"placed\">placed<\/a> under a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/saturday-night-live-mocks-dumbest-impeachment-trial-after-trump-acquitted-again\/\" title=\"\u2018Saturday Night Live\u2019 Mocks \u2018Dumbest\u2019 Impeachment Trial After Trump Acquitted Again\">court-ordered conservatorship<\/a> under her father\u2019s supervision in 2008 after a series of high-profile, public breakdowns, including being committed twice to a psychiatric hospital in California.<\/p>\n<p>A public campaign to end the conservatorship gained significant attention during the early days of the COVID-19 Pandemic with the slogan <a href=\"https:\/\/www.businessinsider.com\/freebritney-britney-spears-conspiracy-theory-explained-2020-7\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"#FreeBritney\">#FreeBritney<\/a> going viral on Instagram and TikTok in July 2020. <\/p>\n<p>In July 2021, Spears made her first testimony in open court to challenge the conservatorship, which she claimed was highly \u201cabusive.\u201d Spears claimed that during the conservatorship she was forced to go on tour by her management, was forced to take lithium, and was coerced to use an IUD for birth control. <\/p>\n<p>The two sides in the legal dispute have fought in court for nearly two years since the end of the conservatorship, with Jamie Spears seeking court approval for over $2 million in fees to multiple law firms he hired during his capacity as conservators on top of payment for his ongoing legal bills. <\/p>\n<p>Rosengart has consistently objected to the fees, arguing the elder Spears engaged in severe financial misconduct during his tenure as his daughter\u2019s legal guardian.<\/p>\n<p>Alex Weingarten, lawyer for James Spears, told the <em><a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2024\/04\/26\/arts\/music\/britney-spears-jamie-spears-legal-fees-conservatorship.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"New York Times\">New York Times<\/a><\/em>  that he could not discuss the terms of the confidential settlement but that both parties had resolved the longstanding issues. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cJamie is thrilled all this is over,\u201d said Weingarten. \u201cHe would love nothing more than to reconcile and be a family again.
