Addressing reporters daily, Trump \u200bseizes the opportunity to\u200c convey his message, criticize Biden, and engage with Republican voters, turning \u2064the trial into a strategic communication platform.  <\/p>\n<p class=\"readmore\">\n    <button onclick=\"showReadMore()\" id=\"readmorebtn\">Read more&#8230;<\/button>\n<\/p>\n<hr id=\"line\">\n<span id=\"more\"><\/p>\n<div>\n<p>Stuck in a New York courtroom, former President <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/donald-trump\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>Donald Trump<\/a> has complained that his six-or-so-week trial over hush money he allegedly paid ex-porn star <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/stormy-daniels\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>Stormy Daniels<\/a> before the 2016 election will undermine his <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/2024-elections\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>2024<\/a> campaign.<\/p>\n<p>But <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/5-washed-up-leftists-who-found-homes-in-academia\/\" title=\"5 Washed Up Leftists Who Found Homes In Academia\">news coverage<\/a> of the legal proceedings appears to be helping him, at least so far.<\/p>\n<p>Trump\u2019s New York trial has not been televised, but <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/fox-news-is-swirling-down-the-toilet\/\" title=\"Fox News Is Swirling Down The Toilet\">cable news networks<\/a> have been broadcasting wall-to-wall coverage, amplifying him and his message eight years after some executives expressed regret over their approach to the former reality TV star in 2016.<\/p>\n<p>For his part, Trump has been <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/kamala-harris-blames-trump-for-border-crisis-touts-biden-admins-extreme-progress-on-immigration-in-border-speech\/\" title=\"Kamala Harris Blames Trump For Border Crisis, Touts Biden Admin\u2019s \u2018Extreme Progress\u2019 On Immigration In Border Speech\">addressing reporters<\/a> every day of his trial, the first former president to have to defend himself from criminal charges and likely the only time he will have to do so before November\u2019s election, outside New York City Criminal Court. He has used that microphone to not only respond to questions about his case and other legal matters but also to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/republican-party\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>criticize<\/a> President <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/joe-biden\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>Joe Biden<\/a> over his relationship with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/israel\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>Israel<\/a> and his <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/economy\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>economic<\/a> record, in addition to encouraging <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/republican-party\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>Republican voters<\/a> to participate in this week\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/republican-primary\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>GOP primary<\/a> in Pennsylvania.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis is eight days that we\u2019ve all been sitting in this courthouse,\u201d Trump told reporters Friday. \u201cI just want to say that I\u2019ve invited Biden to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/debates\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>debate<\/a>,\u201d he added, commenting on the news of the day. \u201cHe can do it anytime he wants, including tonight. (Curtis Means\/DailyMail.com via AP)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Saving money on rallies, Trump, too, has been advantaged by the same bank of cameras not being permitted inside the building where they could have recorded him napping, as has been reported by those credentialed to be inside the courtroom itself.<\/p>\n<p>The daily Trump statements \u201chave been fascinating to watch,\u201d according to DePauw University communication professor and media critic Jeffrey McCall.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt shows Trump trying to make the best of a bad situation and displays him at his counterpunching best,\u201d McCall told the <em>Washington Examiner<\/em>. \u201cHe has managed to turn each trial day into a mini-televised rally that just demands media attention. There is, indeed, public interest in these statements because they are spontaneous and unpredictable. That\u2019s why cable news outlets want to broadcast them. Nobody can predict what he might say, good or bad, on any given day.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>News organizations contended with a similar dynamic in 2016 but, since then after criticism, have tended not to broadcast Trump live and uninterrupted, taking care not to air his remarks when they become less newsworthy and to fact-check them afterward.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cCNN covers the news,\u201d a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/cnn\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>CNN<\/a> spokeswoman told the <em>Washington Examiner<\/em>. \u201cWhen a former President of the United States is on trial, that is newsworthy. CNN\u2019s coverage of the trials will continue to include the nuance, context, and unique reporting appropriate for this moment in American politics.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Regardless of the coverage, Republican strategist Douglas Heye, describing the moment as being in \u201cOJ territory,\u201d advised the Trump campaign there was more work to be done amid speculation by the likes of former New York Southern District federal prosecutor James Zirin that, pursuant to New York Code of Criminal Procedure \u00a7340.50, the real estate mogul does not have to be in court and is, instead, choosing to be there for political reasons. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cSpeaking before the trials gives Trump some exposure to try and define things under his terms, but that\u2019s only successful with the base,\u201d Heye told the <em>Washington Examiner<\/em>. \u201cThese aren\u2019t rallies, and it\u2019s not like he would be having nonstop rallies. But he\u2019s not able to do day-to-day campaign, meetings, or donor maintenance, and that is much more important than whether or not he has a rally in Wilmington, North Carolina on a Wednesday or a Saturday.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>To that end, Trump had to reschedule a rally last weekend in North Carolina because of bad weather but has added events in Michigan and Wisconsin on May 1, as well as another in New Jersey on May 11. In comparison, since the start of Trump\u2019s trial, Biden has been to Florida, New York, Pennsylvania, and Virginia.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cCrooked Joe Biden and the Democrats\u2019 entire strategy to defeat President Trump is to confine him to a courtroom,\u201d Trump campaign spokeswoman Karoline Leavitt told the <em>Washington Examiner<\/em>. \u201cPolling shows the American people see right through the Stalinist tactics employed by Crooked Joe and his allies. President Trump and our team will continue fighting for truth in the courtroom while working to earn votes on the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/central-african-republic-votes-under-threat-of-violence\/\" title=\"Central African Republic votes under threat of violence\">campaign trail<\/a>.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>There is no evidence of a coordinated Democratic legal attack against Trump.<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, the Biden campaign seems to be using Trump\u2019s trial as a platform to underscore the difference between himself and his predecessor in an attempt not to cede the news cycle to his opponent, who, in the past, has increased ratings and profitability.<\/p>\n<p>In an email to reporters this week, with the subject line, \u201cBiden Campaign Statement on Trump\u2019s Campaign Events Today,\u201d Biden campaign spokesman James Singer simply wrote, \u201cHe had none.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">CLICK HERE TO READ MORE FROM THE WASHINGTON EXAMINER<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>In a separate email, Singer called the past seven days \u201canother tortured week for the smallest man who ever lived, Donald Trump,\u201d during which \u201ca tired and \u2018<a href=\"https:\/\/joebiden.us13.list-manage.com\/track\/click?u=db6b693f24f8d92d026e0c2d2&#038;id=27186c9a82&#038;e=4eda036f89\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">diminished<\/a>\u2018\u201d candidate \u201ccreated a chaotic mess for himself and his campaign.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt is an indictment on Trump that he won\u2019t campaign, can\u2019t message, and is <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/gop-the-fight-against-critical-race-theory-has-only-just-begun\/\" title=\"GOP: The Fight Against Critical Race Theory Has Only Just Begun\">driving voters<\/a> away,\u201d Singer wrote. \u201cHis campaign advisers are distracted, his campaign is losing time, and it is burning money on everything but actually reaching voters.
