Holland realized the bus was veering into oncoming traffic, so he sprang into action.<\/p>\n<p>According to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wisn.com\/article\/glendale-8th-grader-helps-stop-school-bus-after-driver-passes-out-behind-the-wheel\/60607796\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">WISN-TV<\/a>, Holland grabbed the wheel and safely stopped the bus by applying the brakes.<\/p>\n<p>Twenty students \u2014 including Holland \u2014 and the bus driver were spared injury, and no one on the road was harmed. In addition to saving his fellow students, Holland called 911 to get medical help for the driver.<\/p>\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/unc-activists-want-minority-student-recalled-from-position-of-power\/\" title=\"UNC Activists Want Minority Student Recalled From Position Of Power\">student recalled<\/a> the incident during an interview with WISN.<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"YouTube video player\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/jSk96C-x6qA?si=ohef56Hv6IQ1Rupf\" width=\"560\" height=\"315\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>\u201cI look up at the bus driver and she was just, like, dazed. I\u2019m looking, and she was like her head was falling on the steering wheel,\u201d Holland told the station.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI grabbed the steering wheel, then I get us to the curb, and I hit the brakes close, and then when we hit the curb, I turned the wheel all the way because I didn\u2019t know where the parking brake was.\u201d<\/p>\n<div id=\"firefly-poll-container\">\n<p>Have you ever saved anyone\u2019s life?<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<p>The driver regained <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/man-loses-consciousness-driving-interstate-good-samaritans-race-rescue-moving-vehicle\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">consciousness<\/a> after her bus was stopped by her young passenger, and she then called her supervisor.<\/p>\n<p>The district sent a new driver to complete the bus route while the regular driver was treated by emergency responders.<\/p>\n<p>The driver is recovering, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/poll-overwhelming-support-for-school-choice-in-n-c\/\" title=\"Poll: Overwhelming support for school choice in N.C.\">school officials<\/a> said, per WISN.<\/p>\n<p>Holland, meanwhile, said he did what he felt the situation called for, but he also acknowledged he felt like he had grown from it.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMade me feel good that I know that I saved people and I know I feel more confident now and brave,\u201d the eighth-grader said.<\/p>\n<p>While Holland was modest about his potentially life-saving actions, people who live in his community are calling him a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/heroic-boy-11-killed-protecting-pregnant-mom-allegedly-from-man-paroled-1-day-earlier-in-chicago\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">hero<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>On the school district Facebook post celebrating the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/flashback-police-officer-discovers-young-man-walking-to-work-offers-him-life-changing-gift\/\" title=\"Flashback: Police Officer Discovers Young Man Walking to Work, Offers Him Life-Changing Gift\">young man<\/a>, one woman wrote, \u201cThis young man saved my boys as they were on the bus! I cannot express enough gratitude!\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Another commenter said, \u201cAbsolutely amazing young man. Hero.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Glen Hills Middle School gave Holland a shoutout on its Facebook page Thursday and celebrated him for showing \u201cleadership.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The school\u2019s principal also praised Holland\u2019s actions during an interview with WISN.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI really hope that people take away the fact that like everyday people can do really <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/bidens-handlers-reportedly-taking-extraordinary-steps-shield-humiliation-comes-price\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">extraordinary<\/a> things,\u201d principal Anna Young said. \u201cI think that our students, when they step outside of their comfort zones, can surprise themselves.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Holland also received praise from his father, Acie Holland Jr., who said he heard about his son\u2019s actions directly from him.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHe was just like, \u2018I saved people\u2019s lives today,\u2019 and he was so excited and he seemed like he wasn\u2019t nervous at all,\u201d the proud dad told WISN.<\/p>\n<p>____________________________________________<\/p>\n<div>\n<p><b data-stringify-type=\"bold\"><i data-stringify-type=\"italic\">A Note from Our Deputy Managing Editor:<\/i><\/b><\/p>\n<p><i data-stringify-type=\"italic\">\u201cWe don\u2019t even know if an election will be held in 2024.\u201d Those 12 words have been stuck in my head since I first read them.<\/i><\/p>\n<p><i data-stringify-type=\"italic\">Former Lt.
