He ended the investigation in February, saying the president should not <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/witch-hunt-mueller-prosecutor-says-trump-could-face-charges-after-pardons\/\" title=\"WITCH HUNT: Mueller Prosecutor Says Trump Could Face Charges After Pardons\">face charges<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>One reason given for that decision was <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/ag-merrick-garland-announces-end-biden-classified-documents-investigation\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Biden\u2019s<\/a> age and mental condition.<\/p>\n<p>Hur\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.justice.gov\/storage\/report-from-special-counsel-robert-k-hur-february-2024.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">report<\/a> said the president \u201cwould likely present himself to a jury, as he did during our interview of him, as a sympathetic, well-meaning, elderly man with a poor memory.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>For weeks, House Judiciary Committee Chairman Jim Jordan of Ohio and House Oversight Committee Chairman James Comer of Kentucky have been asking the Department of Justice for the tapes of those interviews, most recently threatening contempt charges if they are not provided.<\/p>\n<p>In Uriarte\u2019s defiant <a href=\"https:\/\/justthenews.com\/sites\/default\/files\/2024-04\/DOJ-letter-Comer-Jordan.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">letter<\/a> to the two Republicans on Thursday \u2014 shared by <a href=\"https:\/\/justthenews.com\/accountability\/political-ethics\/doj-again-refuses-hand-over-audio-bidens-special-counsel-interview\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Just the News<\/a> \u2014 he claimed the House panels have never shown a good enough reason to get the tapes and said that even if they had one, the department was not going to share them on the grounds that the committees are up to no good.<\/p>\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/breaking-antrim-co-forensic-report-bombshell-reveals-dominion-machines-were-set-at-68-05-error-ratemeaning-68-05-of-ballots-could-be-sent-out-for-mass-adjudication-giving-individuals-or-ma\/\" title=\"BREAKING: Antrim Co. Forensic Report BOMBSHELL Reveals Dominion Machines Were Set At 68.05% Error Rate\u2026Meaning 68.05% Of Ballots Could Be Sent Out For Mass Adjudication, Giving Individuals Or Machines Ability To Change 68.05% Of Votes\">assistant attorney general<\/a> said it was \u201cunjustifiable for the Committees to threaten criminal contempt\u201d when the Justice Department, in his eyes, had been cooperative.<\/p>\n<p>Uriarte wrote that no \u201clegitimate congressional need\u201d had been shown and slapped the committees for wanting the audio files.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe decision to sit down with investigators and prosecutors should not include a tacit invitation for the Committees to participate, comment, or apply selective hindsight,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<div id=\"firefly-poll-container\">\n<p>Is the Biden administration corrupt?<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<p>\u201cIt would be severely chilling if the decision to cooperate with a law enforcement investigation required individuals to submit themselves to public inquest by politicians, particularly because congressional investigations are not subject to the same standards and checks as the Department\u2019s,\u201d Uriarte wrote.<\/p>\n<p>The prosecutor said that because he saw no reason to give lawmakers what they wanted, their motives were suspect.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cLacking a justification for complaint \u2014 never mind contempt \u2014 in the actual record, the Committees\u2019 threats deepen our concern that you are seeking to create a false narrative of obstruction that weakens, rather than strengthens, the American people\u2019s confidence in our government and the rule of law,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt also deepens our concern that the Committees\u2019 true aim is to use <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/doj-refuses-to-turn-over-audio-of-robert-hur-interview-with-biden-to-house-gop\/\" title=\"The Department of Justice declines to provide House GOP with Robert Hur's interview audio with Biden\">law enforcement files<\/a> for purposes contrary to the principles of apolitical and evenhanded administration of justice, to which we are dedicated,\u201d Uriarte said.<\/p>\n<p>A chunk of the 11-page letter said the audio file would provide no information that\u2019s not already in transcripts given to the panels.<\/p>\n<p>The letter also fired back at Comer, saying it produced classified documents for him concerning a 2015 call Biden made with a Ukrainian official while he was vice president.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cDespite the Committees\u2019 assertion that these documents are necessary for your investigation, and despite other requestors accepting our offer to review these documents, the Chair of the Oversight Committee has not yet taken us up on our offer, which we made over two months ago,\u201d Uriarte wrote. \u201cNonetheless, he has been publicly speculating (inaccurately) about their contents.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>He said that even if the panels produced a compelling reason to get the audio files, the Justice Department would not hand them over, arguing that \u201cthe production of sensitive law enforcement files from a closed matter can still harm prosecutorial decision-making, privacy and reputational interests of witnesses and uncharged parties, and sources and methods, among other law enforcement concerns that the public has a strong interest in protecting.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Uriarte made it clear that the DOJ will not help Republicans in their efforts against Biden.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe Committees\u2019 inability to identify a need for these audio files grounded in legislative or impeachment purposes raises concerns about what other purposes they might serve,\u201d he wrote, adding that the department has a \u201cconcern that the Committees may be seeking conflict for conflict\u2019s sake.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe do not obtain evidence for criminal investigations so that it may later be deployed for political purposes,\u201d Uriarte said.<\/p>\n<p>In a statement on Thursday to Just the News, Comer said, \u201cWe will respond to the Department of Justice.\u201d<\/p>\n<hr>\n<div>\n<p><b><i>An Important Message from Our Staff:<\/i><\/b><\/p>\n<p><i><span>In just a few months, the world is going to change forever.
