He\u2019s fresh off an appearance in the series finale of \u201cCurb Your Enthusiasm\u201d alongside his longtime friend and frequent collaborator, Larry David. I thought I had done some cool stuff, but it was nothing like the way these people work,\u201d Seinfeld said of getting into the movie industry after so many years of being involved in other facets of the entertainment industry. \u201cThey\u2019re so dead serious! They don\u2019t have any idea that the movie business is over. They have no idea.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u201cFilm doesn\u2019t occupy the pinnacle in the social, cultural hierarchy that it did for most of our lives,\u201d he added. \u201cWhen a movie came out, if it was good, we all went to see it. We all discussed it. We quoted lines and scenes we liked. Now we\u2019re walking through a fire hose of water, just trying to see.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">When asked what has replaced films in pop culture, Seinfeld replied, \u201cDepression? Malaise? I would say confusion. Disorientation replaced the movie business,\u201d he answered. \u201cEveryone I know in show business, every day, is going, \u2018What\u2019s going on? How do you do this? When asked by Eater why he thought the invention of Pop-Tarts was funny enough to make a movie about, Seinfeld replied by saying it was just a gut feeling.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u201cI sometimes can\u2019t explain why something is funny. But I just know that that is a funny thing,\u201d he <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.eater.com\/24139655\/jerry-seinfeld-pop-tart-movie-unfrosted-interview\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">told<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">  the outlet. \u201cIt had to do with the name. It had to do with giving kids the power to make something with heat. Most kids when I was little never did anything like that \u2014 only adults handle things that had to do with heat \u2014 so it was an exciting new world to use a toaster. As a kid, you felt like you were cooking when you made Pop-Tarts.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u201cI don\u2019t think there\u2019s anything as funny in the entire [1960s] \u2014 certainly in the food world \u2014 as the Pop-Tart,\u201d the comedian continued. \u201cIt was such a surprise when it came out. It had nothing to do with anything else. There\u2019s different cookies. There\u2019s different candies. There\u2019s nothing really that surprising in the candy world. But in the breakfast world, this was a total shock when they made this.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">He said even concocting the movie felt like a joke at first, until it became something real. The Pop-Tart movie isn\u2019t meant to be a documentary, but is rather a comedy filled with nuggets of truth.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">While speaking with GQ, Seinfeld also said stand-up is still popular while other expressions of entertainment suffer because it\u2019s real. He said in an era when people crave authenticity, comedy can still thrive because it\u2019s too hard to fake.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u201cI\u2019ve done enough stuff that I have my own thing, which is more valuable than it\u2019s ever been,\u201d the comedian told the outlet. \u201cStand-up is like you\u2019re a cabinetmaker, and everybody needs a guy who\u2019s good with wood. \u2026 There\u2019s trees everywhere, but to make a nice table, it\u2019s not so easy. So, the metaphor is that if you have good craft and craftsmanship, you\u2019re kind of impervious to the whims of the industry.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u201cAudiences are now flocking to stand-up because it\u2019s something you can\u2019t fake,\u201d he added. \u201cIt\u2019s like platform diving.
