They\u200d argue that \u2063forcing employers to\u2064 provide abortion accommodations violates laws and misinterprets the Pregnant Workers Fairness Act. This dispute arose\u200b after the EEOC expanded the Act to\u2063 include abortion-related accommodations, sparking a \u2064legal battle over federal\u200b overreach and constitutional rights.  <\/p>\n<p class=\"readmore\">\n    <button onclick=\"showReadMore()\" id=\"readmorebtn\">Read more&#8230;<\/button>\n<\/p>\n<hr id=\"line\">\n<span id=\"more\"><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">A group of Republican attorneys general are suing the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission over new rules that force employers to grant certain accommodations for their employees to get abortions. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.tn.gov\/content\/dam\/tn\/attorneygeneral\/documents\/pr\/2024\/pr24-38EEOC.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">suit<\/a> from 17 states, led by Arkansas Attorney General Tim Griffin and Tennessee Attorney General Jonathan Skrmetti, argues that the EEOC is violating numerous laws to make the Pregnant Workers Fairness Act relate to abortion. The states argue that the rule will force them to allocate resources to support elective abortions \u2014 even if elective abortions are illegal in their states. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Announced on Thursday, the suit comes after the EEOC voted 3-2 to assert that the meaning of \u201cpregnancy, childbirth, or <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/no-one-should-be-forced-to-choose-between-his-faith-and-his-paycheck\/\" title=\"No One Should Be Forced To Choose Between His Faith And His Paycheck\">related medical conditions<\/a>,\u201d included in the Pregnant Workers Fairness Act includes abortion. This would mean that employers have to give accommodations for women to get abortions, such as granting time off to get an abortion or immediately after an abortion.  <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u201cCongress passed the bipartisan Pregnant Workers Fairness Act to protect mothers-to-be and promote healthy pregnancies, and the EEOC\u2019s attempt to rewrite that law into an abortion mandate is illegal,\u201d Skrmetti said. \u201cI\u2019m proud to lead the coalition fighting to protect the rule of law against this <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/11-states-file-lawsuit-against-oshas-vaccine-mandate\/\" title=\"11 states file lawsuit against OSHA\u2019s vaccine mandate\">unconstitutional federal overreach<\/a>.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The Republican officials argue that the rule violates the conditions laid out in the Pregnant Workers Fairness Act, infringes on state sovereignty, and violates the First Amendment. The Pregnant Workers Fairness Act, which President Joe Biden signed in December 2022, requires employers to make \u201creasonable accommodations\u201d to pregnant women. <\/span><\/p>\n<p>\u201cYet in a new rule, unelected commissioners at the EEOC seek to hijack these new protections for pregnancies by requiring employers to accommodate elective abortions \u2014 something the Act clearly did not authorize,\u201d Skrmetti\u2019s office said. \u201cThe EEOC\u2019s rule constitutes an unconstitutional federal overreach that infringes on <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/texas-will-build-own-border-barriers-since-biden-admin-will-not-do-its-job\/\" title=\"Texas Will Build Own Border Barriers Since Biden Admin Will Not \u2018Do Its Job\u2019\">existing state laws<\/a> and exceeds the scope of the agency\u2019s authority.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><b><a href=\"https:\/\/onelink.to\/dwapp\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" aria-describedby=\"sk-tooltip-9096\" data-saferedirecturl=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/url?q=https:\/\/onelink.to\/dwapp&#038;source=gmail&#038;ust=1714129450076000&#038;usg=AOvVaw11MUL_oXewNl-yGfGqnuu8\">CLICK HERE TO GET THE DAILYWIRE+ APP<\/a><\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">According to the EEOC, it <a href=\"https:\/\/public-inspection.federalregister.gov\/2024-07527.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">received<\/a> 54,000 comments urging it not to include abortion in the guidelines and 40,000 comments opposed. It said that many of the comments it received \u201cexpressed the view that abortion is the destruction of a human life, that it is objectionable for moral or religious reasons, and that it is not health care\u201d while others claimed that commenters \u201cexpressed deeply held beliefs, including religious beliefs, that abortion is a necessary part of health care.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u201cThe PWFA also cannot be used to require an employer-sponsored health plan to pay for or cover any particular item, procedure, or treatment, including an abortion,\u201d the EEOC said. \u201cGiven these limitations, the type of accommodation that most likely will be sought under the PWFA regarding an abortion is time off to attend a medical appointment or for recovery.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Filed in U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Arkansas, the Republican attorneys general want the rule to be vacated and declared illegal. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Republican attorneys general from 17 states, including Tim Griffin from Arkansas and Jonathan Skrmetti from Tennessee, are suing the EEOC.
