Republicans threatened contempt proceedings \u2064against Attorney General Merrick Garland for withholding the records.  <\/p>\n<p class=\"readmore\">\n    <button onclick=\"showReadMore()\" id=\"readmorebtn\">Read more&#8230;<\/button>\n<\/p>\n<hr id=\"line\">\n<span id=\"more\"><\/p>\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/topic\/department-of-justice\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Department of Justice<\/a> (DOJ) again chose to spurn a demand by <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/topic\/house-republicans\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">House Republicans<\/a> to hand over audio recordings from special counsel Robert Hur\u2019s investigation into President <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/topic\/joe-biden\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Joe Biden<\/a>\u2018s handling of classified documents.<\/p>\n<p>Assistant Attorney General Carlos Uriarte conveyed the refusal in a new <a href=\"https:\/\/www.politico.com\/f\/?id=0000018f-1657-d78f-afaf-3fdffa030000\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">letter<\/a> sent to House Oversight Chairman <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/topic\/james-comer\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">James Comer<\/a> (R-KY) and Judiciary Chairman <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/topic\/jim-jordan\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Jim Jordan<\/a> (R-OH) on Thursday, which was the latest deadline the congressional leaders had set for the subpoenaed materials.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cDespite our many requests, the Committees have not articulated a legitimate congressional need to obtain audio recordings from Mr. Hur\u2019s investigation, let alone one that outweighs the Department\u2019s strong interest in protecting the confidentiality of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/doj-refuses-to-turn-over-audio-of-robert-hur-interview-with-biden-to-house-gop\/\" title=\"The Department of Justice declines to provide House GOP with Robert Hur's interview audio with Biden\">law enforcement files<\/a>,\u201d Uriarte wrote.<\/p>\n<p>Comer and Jordan have <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/house-republicans-give-ag-merrick-garland-one-more-chance-to-deliver-audio-from-biden-docs-probe\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">threatened<\/a> to begin contempt of Congress proceedings against Attorney General <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/topic\/merrick-garland\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Merrick Garland<\/a> if the DOJ continued to rebuff their push for the\u00a0audio recordings of Hur\u2019s interview with Biden and of the special counsel\u2019s interview with Biden\u2019s ghostwriter, Mark Zwonitzer.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYour response to the subpoenas remains inadequate, suggesting that you are withholding records for partisan purposes and to avoid political embarrassment for President Biden,\u201d they <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/house-republicans-give-ag-merrick-garland-one-more-chance-to-deliver-audio-from-biden-docs-probe\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">wrote<\/a> in a mid-April letter\u00a0offering Garland one more chance to comply.<\/p>\n<p>As the chairmen have already been given transcripts of the interviews and other records, Uriarte wrote in his newest letter that it \u201cseems that the more information you receive, the less satisfied you are, and the less justification you have for contempt, the more you rush towards it.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Hur\u2019s report, which was released in February, criticized Biden\u2019s retention of classified records while out of office, yet the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/cia-docs-reveal-multiple-employees-and-contractors-were-never-prosecuted-for-child-sex-crimes\/\" title=\"CIA Docs Reveal Multiple Employees and Contractors Were Never Prosecuted for Child Sex Crimes\">prosecutor declined<\/a> to recommend charges.<\/p>\n<p><b><a href=\"https:\/\/onelink.to\/dwapp\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" aria-describedby=\"sk-tooltip-9096\" APP<\/a><\/b><\/p>\n<p>The report described Biden as a \u201csympathetic, well-meaning, elderly man with a poor memory\u201d whom a jury likely would not convict \u201cof a serious felony that requires a mental state of willfulness.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Hur also found that Zwonitzer deleted recordings of conversations he had with Biden upon learning about the documents inquiry.<b><\/b><\/p>\n<p>However, the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/garland-risks-contempt-of-congress-as-doj-spurns-house-gop-demand-for-biden-audio\/\" title=\"Garland faces potential contempt of Congress as DOJ rejects House GOP's request for Biden audio\">ghostwriter provided \u201cplausible<\/a>, innocent reasons\u201d for his actions during the interview and Hur said he ultimately determined the evidence would not suffice for a conviction on obstruction of justice.<\/p>\n<p>Biden and the White House have pushed back against Hur\u2019s characterizations in his report, but Garland insisted that it would have been <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/garland-says-censoring-hurs-biden-docs-report-would-have-been-absurd\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">\u201cabsurd\u201d<\/a> for someone in his position to have edited or censored the special counsel\u2019s explanation.<\/p>\n<p>During testimony earlier this month, Garland <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/cspan\/status\/1780261901768831242\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">acknowledged<\/a> his agency sent correspondence \u201cexplaining our position with respect to the recordings\u201d and noted the \u201clongstanding practice\u201d of <a
