Ambassador <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/nikki-haley\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>Nikki Haley<\/a> in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/pennsylvania\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>Pennsylvania<\/a>\u2018s presidential primary raises questions about Republican nominee <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/donald-trump\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>Donald Trump<\/a>\u2018s standing within his own party.<\/p>\n<p>She dropped out of the race more than a month ago, yet more than 155,000 Pennsylvania Republicans voted for her over the former president.<\/p>\n<p>Yet it also presents an opportunity for Trump\u2019s rival, President <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/joe-biden\/\">Joe Biden<\/a>. He has attempted to court those voters as part of his <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/2024-elections\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>reelection bid<\/a>, but that effort could prove especially useful in Pennsylvania, a swing state that he won by just over 80,000 votes in 2020, or 1 percentage point.<\/p>\n<p>The outcome in Pennsylvania\u2019s closed Republican primary on Tuesday, in which Haley received 17% of the vote, was not a one-off. The former South Carolina governor notched 13% of the vote in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/wisconsin\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>Wisconsin<\/a> last month after receiving 18% in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/arizona\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>Arizona<\/a>, 13% in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/georgia\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>Georgia<\/a>, and 14% in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/florida\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>Florida<\/a> the week following Super Tuesday.<\/p>\n<p>She handily lost to Trump, suspending her bid after Super Tuesday, but demonstrated what could be an enduring problem for the former president with centrists and in the suburbs.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt is now up to Donald Trump to earn the votes of those in our party and beyond it who did not support him, and I hope he does that,\u201d Haley told a small crowd in Charleston during her concession speech.\u00a0\u201cThis is now his time for choosing.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The remark was a reference to Trump downplaying the importance of Haley voters during the primary, saying, \u201cI\u2019m not sure we need too many.\u201d He also warned Haley donors that he would exile anyone who wrote her a contribution. \u201cWe don\u2019t want them and will not accept them.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The Biden campaign has seized on those and other comments, seeing a chance to make inroads with Republican-leaning independents.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cDonald Trump made it clear he doesn\u2019t want Nikki Haley\u2019s supporters,\u201d Biden said in a post-Super Tuesday statement. \u201cI want to be clear: There is a place for them in my campaign.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Two weeks later, the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/conservatives-are-woefully-out-marketed-by-liberals-its-time-to-level-up\/\" title=\"Conservatives Are Woefully Out-Marketed By Liberals. It\u2019s Time to Level Up.\">campaign spent<\/a> seven figures on a three-week digital ad buy in which Biden appeals directly to Haley voters. His team targeted eight states after using Republican primary results to determine its placement across <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/Meta\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>Meta<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/youtube\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>YouTube<\/a>, connected TV, and online video.<\/p>\n<p>Biden has carried that strategy into battleground states including Pennsylvania, where he is in a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.realclearpolling.com\/polls\/president\/general\/2024\/pennsylvania\/trump-vs-biden\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>virtual tie<\/a> with the former president in recent polling.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cDonald Trump has a serious general election problem,\u201d Biden campaign spokesman Ammar Moussa told reporters Wednesday.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHis cash-strapped campaign is struggling to communicate on the airwaves, has no real staff footprint in key battlegrounds, and is spending more on his personal problems than reaching voters,\u201d Moussa said, referring to the criminal indictments against Trump. \u201cEven if he had the money, Trump\u2019s toxic agenda of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/abortion\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>abortion<\/a> bans, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/taxes\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>tax<\/a> cuts for the wealthy, and ripping away freedoms is a losing one, and shows he has no path to building the coalition necessary to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/biden-campaign-pulls-in-53m-in-strongest-grassroots-fundraising-month-yet\/\" title=\"Biden's campaign secures a record M in its most successful month of grassroots fundraising\">win 270 electoral votes<\/a>.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Biden faces troubles of his own, notably with his base as Israel\u2019s war with Hamas drags on. But Biden has been able to win ex-MGM Chairman and Haley supporter Harry Sloan, in addition to another half dozen onetime Haley bundlers, over to his camp, while pollsters are looking for signs of whether Biden can make a dent with the voting bloc of Haley supporters themselves.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe Haley voters are an important group to watch going forward,\u201d Marist Institute for Public Opinion\u00a0Director Lee Miringoff told the <em>Washington Examiner<\/em>. \u201cSo far, concern from this group tends to be from Republican-leaning independents, not base Republicans. Closer to Election Day will provide a better look as to whether these voters skip the line, stay home, vote for either Biden or Trump or a third-party candidate.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>For David Paleologos, the director at Suffolk University\u2019s Political Research Center, Haley voters are likely to support independent candidate <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/robert-f-kennedy\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>Robert F. Kennedy Jr<\/a>. or the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/libertarian-party\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>Libertarian Party<\/a> nominee, either Charles Ballay, Mike ter Maat, or Lars Mapstead.<\/p>\n<p>Either way, if Haley voters do not back Trump, they have effectively aided Biden, he said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cA third-party vote is a vote away from Trump, which is a vote for Biden,\u201d Paleologos told the <em>Washington Examiner<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cLibertarian voters may have cost Trump the 2020 election,\u201d he said. \u201cJo Jorgensen received many more than Trump lost by in Wisconsin, Arizona, and Georgia. If those voters only had two choices, they probably would have rotated to Trump and put the Electoral College at 269-269, which could have tipped to a Trump reelection given that Republicans held majorities of congressional delegations at the time.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>To Paleologos\u2019s point, a <em>Yahoo News<\/em>-YouGov poll published last week found Biden\u2019s share of the hypothetical general election vote among Democrats, Republicans, and independents remaining steady between its <a href=\"https:\/\/d3nkl3psvxxpe9.cloudfront.net\/documents\/20240311_yahoo_combined.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>March 8-11<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.scribd.com\/document\/723958908\/20240415-news-tabs\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>April 11-15<\/a> surveys, while Trump\u2019s share of Republicans and independents decreased from 90% and 42% to 87% and 39%, respectively. At the same time, Republicans and independents considering casting a ballot for another candidate increased from 4% and 15% to 6% and 21% apiece.<\/p>\n<p>A Republican strategist told the <em>Washington Examiner<\/em>, \u201cHaley voters who decide to vote for Biden should think again.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThat\u2019s the last thing Haley would want,\u201d he said. \u201cIf Trump doesn\u2019t work hard to earn their vote, they should vote their conscience and write in.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The Trump campaign, for its part, says it is not concerned, arguing that Trump, who has not spoken with Haley, delivered a \u201cresounding\u201d primary win in Pennsylvania.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cMore importantly,\u00a0President\u00a0Trump\u00a0continues to\u00a0dominate Feeble Joe\u00a0Biden in\u00a0every\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/pining-for-pennsylvania-trumps-philadelphia-suburban-problem-lingers\/\" title=\"Yearning for Pennsylvania: Trump's Suburban Dilemma in Philly Persists\">battleground state\u00a0poll\u00a0including<\/a>\u00a0his <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/trump-orders-flags-at-half-mast-for-fallen-capitol-officers\/\" title=\"Trump Orders Flags at Half-Mast for Fallen Capitol Officers\">home state<\/a>,\u201d Trump campaign spokeswoman Karoline Leavitt told the <em>Washington Examiner<\/em>. \u201cThe Dishonest Biden campaign has spent millions in Pennsylvania gaslighting voters, but it is not enough to make everyone ignore <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/inflation\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>Bidenflation<\/a> and rising costs, Biden\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/border-crisis\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>border<\/a> bloodbath, and his war on American <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/energy\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>energy<\/a>.\u201d <\/p>\n<p>\u201cRather than simply staying home, it\u2019s no wonder\u00a0why Democrat voters are turning out to reject their own president,\u201d the campaign added, citing protest votes over his response to the Israel-Hamas war in states such as <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/michigan\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>Michigan<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">CLICK HERE TO READ MORE FROM THE WASHINGTON EXAMINER<\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, Biden has the support of at least one prominent Republican: <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/george-conway\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>George Conway<\/a>. Former Trump adviser <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/kellyanne-conway\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>Kellyanne Conway<\/a>\u2018s ex-husband, who co-founded the anti-Trump <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/lincoln-project\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>Lincoln Project<\/a>, announced before his Biden fundraiser Wednesday night in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/washington-dc\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>Washington, D.C.<\/a>, that he had donated almost $1 million to the incumbent\u2019s campaign.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThere\u2019s nothing more important than this,\u201d Conway told CNN Tuesday. \u201cIt\u2019s going to come out of my kids\u2019 inheritance, but the most important thing they can inherit is living in a constitutional democracy.\u201d<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<p><\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Former U.N.
