The \u2062organization aims\u2062 to uncover and combat disinformation networks\u200c while \u200dadvocating for public awareness\u200d of \u200dthe\u200b dangers posed by misinformation.  <\/p>\n<p class=\"readmore\">\n    <button onclick=\"showReadMore()\" id=\"readmorebtn\">Read more&#8230;<\/button>\n<\/p>\n<hr id=\"line\">\n<span id=\"more\"><\/p>\n<p>The Biden administration\u2019s former \u201cdisinformation czar,\u201d ousted after an apparent attempt to create an Orwellian ministry of truth within the Department of Defense, has launched a new nonprofit that declares criticism of \u201cdisinformation researchers\u201d such as herself as a chief threat to the United States of America.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe campaign against <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/house-republicans-subpoena-bidens-mary-poppins-disinformation-czar\/\" title=\"House Republicans Subpoena Biden\u2019s \u2018Mary Poppins\u2019 Disinformation Czar\">counter-disinformation work<\/a> is the greatest threat to freedom of expression and academic integrity since the McCarthy era,\u201d Nina Jankowicz said in a press release, pledging that her group would not \u201callow it to continue.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOnce researchers are free to conduct their essential work, the American people will gain a better understanding of the nature and severity of the disinformation threats we face,\u201d she said. \u201cDisinformation knows no political party. Its ultimate victim is our democracy.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The group, the American Sunlight Project, was announced as a bipartisan advocacy organization founded by Jankowicz that was \u201claunched to expose and oppose efforts to weaponize disinformation in the United States.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe organization will investigate the networks and money driving disinformation and educate the public about the threats disinformation poses to their daily lives,\u201d it says. \u201cThe first step in the group\u2019s program will involve countering the organized campaign currently challenging the work of disinformation researchers.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The group\u2019s advisory board consists of Katie Harbath, a former Facebook executive, Emily Horne, a former National Security Council official, Ineke Mushovic of the gay advocacy group Movement Advancement Project, and Ben Wittes of the left-wing Brookings Institution, who was once described as the \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/www.politico.com\/interactives\/2017\/politico50\/benjamin-wittes\/\">bard of the deep state<\/a>.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Carlos \u00c1lvarez-Aranyos, the group\u2019s co-founder, claims that \u201corganized campaigns are preventing us from researching and understanding the threat of disinformation and organization an appropriate national response,\u201d promising to \u201cbreak the deadlocks holding us back.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>In 2022, Jankowicz was appointed by the Department of Homeland Security to lead an ill-fated body called the Disinformation Governance Board. An uproar over civil liberties ensued, including from <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/district-court-upholds-ohio-law-banning-down-syndrome-abortions\/\" title=\"District Court Upholds Ohio Law Banning Down Syndrome Abortions\">20 state attorneys general<\/a>, with the Biden administration ultimately <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/house-republicans-demand-answers-from-nina-jankowicz-on-new-disinformation-governance-board\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">scrapping<\/a> the idea. Jankowicz says the criticism of the board was, itself, misinformation.<\/p>\n<p>Jankowicz had posted bizarre videos of herself singing about \u201cdisinformation,\u201d referring to herself as the \u201cMary Poppins of disinformation.\u201d<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"500\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">You can just call me the Mary Poppins of disinformation \ud83d\udc81\ud83c\udffb\u200d\u2640\ufe0f <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/eGV9lpctYn\">https:\/\/t.co\/eGV9lpctYn<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/WVQFA2bPmq\">pic.twitter.com\/WVQFA2bPmq<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 Nina Jankowicz (@wiczipedia) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/wiczipedia\/status\/1362153807879303171?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">February 17, 2021<\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>\u201cMisinformation\u201d groups often purport to rate news outlets in the name of transparency, assign failing ratings to center-right news outlets, and then refuse to share their data with journalists who want to check their methodology.<\/p>\n<p>In the past, they have been subsidized by the government, and served to enforce government-sanctioned lines \u2014 such as that the coronavirus did not leak out of a Chinese lab \u2014 in the media.<\/p>\n<p>Anti-\u201cmisinformation\u201d efforts often hold only the barest pretext to being anything other than partisan enforcers, saying they aim to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/state-department-paid-germans-to-bring-censorship-and-propaganda-to-u-s-schools\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">rescue<\/a> people from early warning signs that they believe could head down a path to extremes \u2014 which often amounts to a belief in center-right ideas \u2014 while actively advocating for left-wing falsities such as the New York Times\u2019 debunked 1619 Project.<\/p>\n<p>Even as they make a living criticizing others, \u201cmisinformation researchers\u201d have played the victim as soon as people do not react to their work the way they hoped.<\/p>\n<p>House Judiciary Committee Chairman Jim Jordan <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/20-gop-attorneys-general-threaten-lawsuit-over-un-american-disinformation-board\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">called<\/a> the scrapped Disinformation Governance Board an \u201cun-American, anti-democratic, and a dangerous escalation of the Biden Administration\u2019s embrace of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/house-republicans-demand-answers-from-nina-jankowicz-on-new-disinformation-governance-board\/\" title=\"House Republicans Demand Answers From Nina Jankowicz On New \u2018Disinformation Governance Board\u2019\">government-endorsed censorship<\/a>,\u201d and said Americans should not trust Jankowicz to act \u201cas the Biden Administration\u2019s arbiter of truth.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The new \u201csunlight\u201d group <a href=\"https:\/\/www.americansunlight.org\/letter-to-congress\">wrote<\/a> to the Committee faulting it for releasing excerpts from \u201cmisinformation experts\u201d own testimony, saying it has made them \u201ctargets for harassment.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The group lamented that \u201cdozens of AI-generated images of former President Trump posing with Black voters have circulated online\u201d and said the images \u201care real, present-day threats to American democracy.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Biden administration&#8217;s ex-&#8220;disinformation czar,&#8221; removed for aiming to establish an Orwellian truth ministry in the Department of Defense, now leads a nonprofit.
