Chinese \u2063government\u2064 connections to U.S. nonprofit groups have been\u2063 reported, including\u200c The People&#8217;s Forum, funded by Chinese propagandist\u2064 Neville Roy Singham.  <\/p>\n<p class=\"readmore\">\n    <button onclick=\"showReadMore()\" id=\"readmorebtn\">Read more&#8230;<\/button>\n<\/p>\n<hr id=\"line\">\n<span id=\"more\"><\/p>\n<div>\n<figure><figcaption> \t\t\t\t \t\t\t\t(Justin Sullivan\/Getty Images)\t\t\t<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<div>\n<p>House lawmakers called on the IRS to investigate U.S.-based anti-Israel activist groups that have financial links to China, according to a letter obtained by the <em>Washington Free Beacon<\/em> on Wednesday.<\/p>\n<p>Members of the House Ways and Means Committee <a href=\"https:\/\/freebeacon.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/04\/4-24-2024-Werfel-CCP-Singham-Letter1.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">said<\/a> they are concerned that &#8220;foreign adversaries are taking advantage of loopholes to impact American political activity with little-to-no transparency.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>The letter follows reports connecting the Chinese government to a network of U.S.-based nonprofit groups.<\/p>\n<p>The People&#8217;s Forum, a group that helped organize anti-Israel walkouts in New York City public schools, is bankrolled by Chinese propagandist and tech mogul Neville Roy Singham, the <em>New York Times<\/em> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2023\/08\/05\/world\/europe\/neville-roy-singham-china-propaganda.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">reported<\/a> last year. The organization <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2023\/12\/02\/metro\/student-walkout-influenced-by-chinese-community-party-tied-org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">encouraged<\/a> student protesters to shout anti-Semitic chants, such as &#8220;from the river to the sea, Palestine will be free,&#8221; a slogan that calls for the elimination of the Jewish state.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Not only do these activities raise serious <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/blackburn-introduces-amendments-to-counter-china-and-iran\/\" title=\"Blackburn Introduces Amendments to Counter China and Iran\">national security concerns<\/a>, but they also raise questions about whether organizations like this receive foreign funding from America&#8217;s adversaries and whether the Internal Revenue Service (&#8216;IRS&#8217;) is conducting oversight of entities like these,&#8221; wrote the lawmakers in a letter to IRS commissioner Daniel Werfel.<\/p>\n<p>The letter also raised concerns about other China-linked political groups. The Energy Foundation, a U.S.-based nonprofit that promotes climate change activism, operates primarily out of China and has significant ties to the government, Fox News reported in December.<\/p>\n<p>The Energy Foundation has pushed for U.S. <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/3-recent-failures-of-green-energy-policies\/\" title=\"3 Recent Failures of Green Energy Policies\">green energy policies<\/a> that would benefit China, which dominates the global solar energy and battery industries.<\/p>\n<p>The lawmakers asked the IRS if it has &#8220;a definition of antisemitism in place within the agency that it considers when evaluating the claimed exempt purpose of a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/hollywood-foreign-press-association-accused-of-ethical-violations-ahead-of-golden-globes\/\" title=\"Hollywood Foreign Press Association Accused Of Ethical Violations Ahead Of Golden Globes\">tax-exempt organization<\/a>&#8221; and whether it collects information about foreign funding to U.S. nonprofit groups.\t<\/p>\n<p>They also asked whether the Chinese funding and links would prompt an investigation into these groups by the IRS.<\/p>\n<p>The House Ways and Means Committee, which is chaired by Rep. Jason Smith (R., Mo.), has been <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/biden-admin-ramps-up-so-called-war-on-disinformation-in-effort-to-censor-their-opposition\/\" title=\"Biden Admin Ramps Up So-Called \"War on Disinformation\" in Effort to Censor Their Opposition\">investigating foreign influence<\/a> in domestic political organizations.
