The results of one recent study seem to indicate that they are, especially to their daughters. But there\u2019s a better explanation \u2014 one articulated millennia ago by God\u2019s Word.<\/p>\n<p>According to a 2023\u00a0poll\u00a0by the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.americansurveycenter.org\/newsletter\/why-republican-parents-raise-democratic-daughters\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Survey Center on American Life<\/a>, 62 percent of U.S. adults raised by Democratic parents were Democrats, while 57 percent of U.S. adults raised by Republican parents were Republican. The overall partisan gap is substantial, but not huge; however, it grows much larger among women aged 18-29. Among the youngest group of U.S. adults, 69 percent of men and 73 percent of women raised by Democrats are Democrats, while 67 percent of men and only 44 percent of women raised by Republicans are Republicans.<\/p>\n<p>Put another way, only 27 percent of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/dont-call-toxic-women-must-make-peace-masculinity\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">young women<\/a> raised by Democratic parents are not Democrats, while 56 percent of young women raised by Republican parents are not Republican.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhy are those who vote Democrat seemingly better at passing on their values?\u201d\u00a0asked\u00a0Family Research Council Senior Fellow Joseph Backholm on \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/rumble.com\/v4qg7lw-david-closson-brings-worldview-approach-to-title-ix-revisions.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Washington Watch<\/a>\u201d Friday. \u201cAnd why are young women so much more likely to reject the values of their more conservative parents?\u201d<\/p>\n<h3>Progressive Cultural Dominance<\/h3>\n<p>One ready explanation is that left-leaning parents \u201chave a lot more help,\u201d suggested David Closson, director of FRC\u2019s Center for Biblical Worldview.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cEvery <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/parker-end-of-the-roe-v-wade-era\/\" title=\"PARKER: End Of The Roe V. Wade Era?\">single cultural institution<\/a> in this country is a cheerleader for progressive causes,\u201d he said. \u201cIf you\u2019re \u2026 hearing values that are taught at the home also reinforced online, \u2026 in the movies that you watch, and the music that you listen to \u2014 it\u2019s the same values that are taught in the schools that you go to \u2014 I\u2019m not at all surprised.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>This cultural explanation underscores the fact that the underlying issue is not a person\u2019s political allegiance, but their worldview. \u201cFrom a Christian worldview,\u201d Backholm said, \u201cour goal is not to get somebody to join a political party. But we know that these lines mean something.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Under President Joe Biden and his administration, the Democratic Party has hardened its positions <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/god-help-us-growing-majority-catholics-believe-abortion-legal-poll\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">in favor of abortion<\/a> and the LGBT agenda, positions that contradict the Bible\u2019s teaching about God\u2019s created order.<\/p>\n<p>On the other hand, because of the cultural dominance of progressive ideas, \u201cthose of us who are theologically conservative Christians \u2014 the beliefs that we hold are no longer just seen as outdated or a little old school, but increasingly they\u2019re seen as subversive and dangerous,\u201d Closson said. Prevailing cultural voices maintain that biblical viewpoints on sexuality, marriage, and life are \u201cnot even polite conversation\u201d and \u201cshouldn\u2019t be in the public square.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The ideological dimension helps explain why young women skew further to the left than young men: The dominant ideology is radical feminism, with a side of queer theory. Closson shared three factors that increase a young woman\u2019s leftward tendencies.<\/p>\n<p>First is <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/bluey-introduces-first-lgbt-characters-subtle-moment-might-missed\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">LGBT<\/a> identification; among Generation Z, women are twice as likely as men to identify as LGBT, and those who so identify automatically skew to the left. The second issue is abortion. \u201cThe pro-abortion lobby, regretfully and tragically, has been very effective in talking about \u2026 women\u2019s rights,\u201d Closson said. Third is a college education; women raised by Republican parents are only half as likely to identify as Republican if they have a four-year degree. (What do you think colleges are teaching them?)<\/p>\n<p>A fourth factor to explain the man-woman political divide addresses the reason why young men are not more left-leaning. Backholm quoted his 19-year-old daughter\u2019s quick reaction, \u201cWell, progressives hate men. Why would they want to be one?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Beware the backlash of angry young men rejecting the oppressive humiliation of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/new-film-proudly-mocks-christians-promoting-blasphemous-satanic-feminist-pro-abortion-story\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">feminist ideology<\/a>. God told the first woman, \u201cYour desire shall be contrary to your husband, but he shall rule over you\u201d (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.biblegateway.com\/passage\/?search=Genesis+3%3A16&#038;version=ESV\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Genesis 3:16<\/a>), and that dynamic has persisted throughout human history.<\/p>\n<h3>Pedagogical Christian Duty<\/h3>\n<p>Returning to the main point, American Christians in 2024 are in a cultural wilderness. We seem like walking fossils or mythical monsters. Our strangeness earns us notoriety and enmity, but also a glad reception among the remnant \u201cappointed to eternal life\u201d (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.biblegateway.com\/passage\/?search=Acts+13%3A48&#038;version=ESV\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Acts 13:48<\/a>).<\/p>\n<p>God\u2019s people have been here before. Before God brought the children of Israel into the Promised Land, he warned them not to make a covenant with the pagan idolaters who inhabited the land, \u201clest it become a snare in your midst\u201d (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.biblegateway.com\/passage\/?search=Exodus+34%3A12&#038;version=ESV\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Exodus 34:12<\/a>). They were not to intermarry or even eat with them, lest they fall into idolatry themselves (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.biblegateway.com\/passage\/?search=Exodus+34%3A15-16&#038;version=ESV\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Exodus 34:15-16<\/a>) \u2014 this exact scenario came to pass before Israel even entered the Promised Land (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.biblegateway.com\/passage\/?search=Numbers+25%3A1-9&#038;version=ESV\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Numbers 25:1-9<\/a>).<\/p>\n<p>Moses further urged against mingling with pagan nations because \u201cthey would turn away your sons from following me, to serve other gods\u201d (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.biblegateway.com\/passage\/?search=Deuteronomy+7%3A4&#038;version=ESV\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Deuteronomy 7:4<\/a>). In other words, God\u2019s people have been in this situation for a very long time.<\/p>\n<p>Like ancient Israel, we live surrounded by those who do not know the one true God and instead worship false idols. Like ancient Israel, our children are in danger of being enticed by these idolaters. Like ancient Israel, we have a divinely devised defense against their seductions.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYou shall teach them diligently to your children, and shall talk of them when you sit in your house, and when you walk by the way, and when you lie down, and when you rise\u201d (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.biblegateway.com\/passage\/?search=Deuteronomy+6%3A7&#038;version=ESV\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Deuteronomy 6:7<\/a>), Backholm quoted Moses\u2019s instructions to Israel.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis is Moses\u2019s exhortation to the nation of Israel about how to disciple your children,\u201d Backholm said. \u201cDiscipleship happens not [only] on Sunday morning and not during bedtime prayer, but when you demonstrate that this is an integral part of your life, and that meal time, and work time, and play time, and recreation time \u2014 all of that \u2014 is undergirded by your faith.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>According to Christian Smith and Amy Adamczyk in \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/www.amazon.com\/Handing-Down-Faith-Religion-Generation\/dp\/0190093323\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Handing Down the Faith: How Parents Pass Their Religion on to the Next Generation<\/a>,\u201d Backholm cited, \u201cthe most instrumental factor seems to be when parents talk about faith with their children, not just when they\u2019re in the car coming and going from Sunday school or when they\u2019re saying bedtime prayers.\u201d That\u2019s simply not enough time. Students will spend 16,000 hours in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/arizona-dem-gov-vetoes-bills-posting-ten-commandments-classroom-recognizing-truth-male-female\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">classrooms<\/a>, Closson said, \u201cone hour on a Sunday morning and a one hour on a Wednesday night youth group can\u2019t possibly counteract\u201d that.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cUnless you are intentional about training a different worldview, [progressivism is] going to be what [your children] absorb from the world around them,\u201d Backholm warned.<\/p>\n<div id=\"firefly-poll-container\">\n<p>Are biblical beliefs dangerous nowadays?<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<p>In other words, it takes more than cultural Christianity to raise up children in the religion of Jesus Christ, just as it takes more than cultural Christianity to follow Christ. Just before commanding parents to instruct their children, Moses commanded them, \u201cThese words that I command you today shall be on your heart\u201d (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.biblegateway.com\/passage\/?search=Deuteronomy+6%3A6&#038;version=ESV\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Deuteronomy 6:6<\/a>).<\/p>\n<p>And just before that is the greatest commandment, which is also the one fallen sinners most fail to keep, \u201cYou shall love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your might\u201d (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.biblegateway.com\/passage\/?search=Deuteronomy+6%3A5&#038;version=ESV\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Deuteronomy 6:5<\/a>). Without a regenerate heart that wholly loves the Lord and that meditates on His commands, a parent might as well instruct their children to follow God with duct tape over their face.<\/p>\n<p>Thus, training our children in righteousness begins with our attention to our own personal holiness and our own spiritual disciplines. We should instruct our children, \u201cBe imitators of me, as I am of Christ\u201d (<a href=\"https:\/\/www.biblegateway.com\/passage\/?search=1+Corinthians+11%3A1&#038;version=ESV\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">1 Corinthians 11:1<\/a>) \u2014 and that instruction should mean something. This should include our faithful participation in a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/evangelist-tells-arizona-crowd-trump-cant-save-america-can-give-church-time-save\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">local church<\/a>. Not only will the weekly rhythm reinforce our words, but the local church should also reinforce our authority and teaching as parents.<\/p>\n<p>Of course, the Christian walk is not a list of do\u2019s and don\u2019ts. It requires the Holy Spirit\u2019s life-transforming work of conversion, inspired by the gospel of Jesus Christ. This means we cannot convert our children, force or manipulate them into professing Christ, or assume that they are saved.<\/p>\n<p>Instead, we should pray for God to convert them, preferably from a young age. We should be faithful to teach them about Jesus and to teach them the gospel most of all.
