This censorship\u2064 strategy, aiming to silence conservatives, operates subtly and disproportionately impacts conservative groups. \u200bSuch targeted actions \u200cunderscore \u200ba growing concern over ideological bias\u2064 in\u2063 tech censorship.  <\/p>\n<p class=\"readmore\">\n    <button onclick=\"showReadMore()\" id=\"readmorebtn\">Read more&#8230;<\/button>\n<\/p>\n<hr id=\"line\">\n<span id=\"more\"><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Republican Senator Ted Cruz says the secret tool used by the tech industry to censor conservative voices is online service providers, which are systematically \u201cremoving infrastructure services that conservative organizations need to operate,\u201d he tells The Daily Wire. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The Texas Republican says this new breed of censorship is \u201cfar less visible\u201d to the public than similar actions taken by platforms such as Facebook, but \u201cevery bit as problematic.\u201d An investigation carried out by the Senate Commerce Committee identified companies such as Eventbrite and Slack that have withheld their widely used services from conservatives for political reasons.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u201cThis is a strategy, and it\u2019s a strategy they\u2019re deliberately deploying to go after conservatives and silence them,\u201d explained Cruz, whose <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/dw-wp-production.imgix.net\/2024\/04\/Commerce_HowOnlineServiceProviders_Report-for-Daily-Wire.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">report was obtained exclusively by The Daily Wire<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Cruz\u2019s investigation honed in on Eventbrite\u2019s treatment of events that were centered around \u201cWhat is a Woman?\u201d, the documentary by Daily Wire host Matt Walsh. The event company, which controls nearly half of the online event management market, claimed mere screenings of the film violated their Hateful Events Policy, and yanked pages for events across the country from its platform. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Though groups were given only broad statements about why their access to Eventbrite was revoked, Cruz\u2019s committee found that action was taken even though nobody at the company even bothered to watch the film. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u201cEventbrite said that its decision to cancel the \u201cWhat is a Woman?\u201d event was based in a large part on their objection to the film itself,\u201d Cruz said. \u201cBut then they couldn\u2019t identify anything with the film that violated its terms of service.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u201cThey canceled the event without watching the movie,\u201d Cruz explained, calling it \u201cbrazen abuse of power\u201d that\u2019s carried out in \u201can explicitly ideological leftist way to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/cancel-culture-similar-to-ccps-social-credit-system-rep-green\/\" title=\"\u2018Cancel Culture\u2019 Similar to CCP\u2019s Social Credit System: Rep. Green\">silence conservative voices<\/a> while not silencing those voices on the left.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Eventbrite also revoked its services from an event on \u201cProtecting Women\u2019s Sports\u201d that featured Riley Gaines, an outspoken female athlete who speaks out against allowing men to participate in women\u2019s sports. Eventbrite, Cruz discovered, based its decision on social media posts by Gaines, chiefly one in which she stated, \u201creal women \u2026 lack a Y chromosome.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"500\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Here\u2019s why Eventbrite canceled seven \u201cWhat Is a Woman?\u201d events: <a href=\"https:\/\/t.co\/wFPF7kA0f6\">pic.twitter.com\/wFPF7kA0f6<\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u2014 The Matt Walsh Show (@MattWalshShow) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/MattWalshShow\/status\/1782868691069047220?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">April 23, 2024<\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Cruz also found that Slack, a communication platform used by companies across the country, revoked access to Libs of TikTok over factual statements it posted to social media that Slack says \u201cincite hatred.\u201d One of the posts from Libs of TikTok cited by Slack stated that Boston Children\u2019s Hospital was \u201coffering gender-affirming hysterectomies for young girls,\u201d which although a statement of fact, generated significant anger towards the hospital. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Slack told the Committee that \u201cwhat makes [Libs of TikTok] problematic is that Libs of TikTok has a specific audience, and they are taking this information and posting it to that specific audience so that everyone in that audience sees it at the same time.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u201cUnderstand what they\u2019re saying: They\u2019re saying the primary concern is that Libs of TikTok\u2019s posts are read by a conservative audience,\u201d Cruz explained. \u201cThey\u2019re not even claiming to be upset with Libs of TikTok\u2019s posts, most of which are retweets of posts from leftists. They\u2019re just saying it\u2019s objectionable that you actually have conservatives reading or watching what you\u2019re putting out.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Libs of TikTok creator Chaya Raichik said that her team used Slack daily, and that its abrupt removal of services was \u201cvery difficult\u201d for the company to deal with. Not only did it need to scramble to find a new way to communicate, but it lost all previous communications \u2014 without prior notification, and without any opportunity to appeal. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The report concludes that the termination of service is often disruptive for conservative organizations \u2014 when Eventbrite canceled a Stanford University screening of \u201cWhat Is A Woman?\u201d, 600 students had already registered for tickets to the event.
