Democrats\u2064 and \u200dgun\u2062 control activists strongly\u200c opposed \u200cthe bill, leading to\u2064 disruptive scenes in the state Capitol. \u2064Tensions escalated as Republican and Democratic representatives clashed over the contentious \u2062legislation. The\u200c Tennessee legislature&#8217;s approval of a \u200bcontentious bill permitting teachers\u200b to \u200cbear \u2062arms triggered protests and disorder within the House. Democrats and gun control advocates vehemently opposed the legislation, resulting in \u200cdisruptive \u2062scenes at the state\u2063 Capitol. Conflicting views between Republican\u2064 and Democratic representatives further fueled escalating tensions surrounding the controversial measure.  <\/p>\n<p class=\"readmore\">\n    <button onclick=\"showReadMore()\" id=\"readmorebtn\">Read more&#8230;<\/button>\n<\/p>\n<hr id=\"line\">\n<span id=\"more\"><\/p>\n<div>\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/tennessee\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"Tennessee\">Tennessee<\/a> legislature passed a controversial bill allowing teachers to carry <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/guns\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"guns\">guns<\/a>, causing protesters to scream their disapproval and cause chaotic scenes on the state House floor.<\/p>\n<p>The bill was passed just over a year after the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/news\/1768605\/nashville-shooting-three-children-and-three-adults-killed-in-shooting-at-christian-covenant-school\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>Covenant school shooting<\/a> when a former student killed three students and three adults. It was <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/before-finally-overturning-roe-supreme-court-must-block-yet-another-insurrection-attempt\/\" title=\"Before Finally Overturning Roe, Supreme Court Must Block Yet Another Insurrection Attempt\">strongly objected<\/a> to by Democrats and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/biden-to-congress-enact-major-restrictions-on-constitutionally-protected-second-amendment-rights\/\" title=\"Biden To Congress: Enact Major Restrictions On Constitutionally Protected Second Amendment Rights\">gun control activists<\/a>, who made a scene in the state Capitol building.<\/p>\n<figure><figcaption>Republican state Rep. Hands,\u201d the crowd in the gallery shouted, brandishing protest signs.<\/p>\n<figure><\/figure>\n<p>Republican and Democratic state representatives conversed and argued on the floor, accusing each other of breaking rules.<\/p>\n<p>Republican House Speaker Cameron Sexton kicked out at least one protester for being too disruptive, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/nation\/2024\/04\/23\/tennessee-bill-arming-teachers-guns-passes\/?utm_campaign=wp_main&#038;utm_medium=social&#038;utm_source=twitter\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"according to\">according to<\/a> the <em>Washington Post<\/em>.<\/p>\n<p>The <em>Washington Examiner<\/em> reached out to Sexton for comment.<\/p>\n<p>House Democrats, a clear minority in the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/florida-lawmaker-moves-to-rename-highway-after-president-donald-j-trump\/\" title=\"Florida Lawmaker Moves to Rename Highway After President Donald J. Trump\">deep red state<\/a>, protested the measure.<\/p>\n<p>Democratic state Rep. Bo Mitchell shared his outrage over the passage of the bill in light of the Covenant tragedy. \u201cThis is our reaction to students and teachers being murdered in a school? Our reaction is to throw more guns at it. What\u2019s wrong with us?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>At one point, Sexton appeared to mute Mitchell\u2019s microphone, after he drifted off topic in apologizing to the parents in attendance.<\/p>\n<figure>\n<div>\n<blockquote data-width=\"550\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<div lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">\n<p>During debate on a bill to arm teachers, Tennessee House Speaker Cameron Sexton (R-Crossville) mutes and laughs at State Rep. Justin Jones, who was expelled last year for disregarding House rules before being quickly reinstated.
