The president sparked an international incident last week by implying his uncle was eaten by &#8220;cannibals&#8221; in New Guinea during World War II.<\/p>\n<p>While speaking at a Pennsylvania war memorial last week, Biden recalled that his uncle Ambrose Finnegan&#8217;s plane was &#8220;shot down&#8221; over New Guinea during heavy fighting. &#8220;They never found the body because there used to be\u2014there were a lot of cannibals, for real, in that part of New Guinea,&#8221; he said.<\/p>\n<p>The prime minister of Papau New Guinea, a crucial ally in the U.S.-led effort to deter Chinese aggression in the region, took offense at the implication. &#8220;President Biden\u2019s remarks may have been a slip of the tongue; however, my country does not deserve to be labeled as such,&#8221; Prime Minister James Marape <a href=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/article\/papua-new-guinea-biden-ambrose-finnegan-marape-cannibals-9479088c4262fe6879258e5ad135238f\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">said<\/a> in a statement.<\/p>\n<p>According to military records, the transport plane Biden&#8217;s uncle was traveling on wasn&#8217;t even &#8220;shot down.&#8221; It was\u00a0deemed to have crashed into the ocean due to engine failure.\t<\/p>\n<p>It wasn&#8217;t the first time Biden, 81, has offered a wildly inaccurate version of history.
