The judge ordered\u2064 detailed explanations and document submissions within 10 days, aiming to disclose releasable\u2062 information while ensuring the ongoing investigation&#8217;s integrity. Various parties, \u200cincluding \u200cthe National Police Association, have demanded \u200daccess\u200c to the shooter&#8217;s writings, prompting legal actions and controversies.  <\/p>\n<p class=\"readmore\">\n    <button onclick=\"showReadMore()\" id=\"readmorebtn\">Read more&#8230;<\/button>\n<\/p>\n<hr id=\"line\">\n<span id=\"more\"><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The city of Nashville, Tennessee, was ordered to turn over documents to a judge about the police\u2019s investigation into the March 2023 shooting at a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/topic\/the-covenant-school\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Christian school<\/a> by a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/this-is-your-sign-to-catechize-your-kids-and-yourself\/\" title=\"This Is Your Sign To Catechize Your Kids \u2014 And Yourself\">transgender-identifying shooter<\/a>, according to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/feds-seize-data-from-retired-four-star-general-who-now-works-at-leftist-think-tank\/\" title=\"Feds Seize Data From Retired Four Star General Who Now Works At Leftist Think Tank\">court filings obtained<\/a> by The Daily Wire.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The order is part of the ongoing battle over what writings will be released from the woman who murdered six people, including three children, at the Covenant School in Nashville on March 27, 2023. A coalition of groups, including the National Police Association, sued last year after the Metro Nashville Police Department refused to release the killer\u2019s writings and other investigative documents.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Judge I\u2019Ashea L. Myles ordered the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/flashback-police-officer-discovers-young-man-walking-to-work-offers-him-life-changing-gift\/\" title=\"Flashback: Police Officer Discovers Young Man Walking to Work, Offers Him Life-Changing Gift\">police department<\/a> on Monday to give her a detailed explanation of what is contained in its \u201cinvestigative file\u201d into the shooting at the Covenant School and to give her documents they believe can be released despite the ongoing investigation into the shooting. Both requests are ordered to be responded to within 10 days.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">In her order, the judge requested \u201can updated set of redacted documents, which counsel for Metro contends may be released, without compromising any active investigation.\u201d Additionally, Myles asked for the police department to produce an affidavit estimating when it would be able to produce the redacted files upon completion of the investigation.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The police department has <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/nashville-police-say-ongoing-investigation-prevents-release-of-covenant-shooters-manifesto\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">said<\/a> that it needs to wrap up its investigation before it can release most of its documents on its investigation into the shooting.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Myles\u2019 orders for the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/justice-department-launches-probe-into-louisville-police-department-over-breonna-taylor-death\/\" title=\"Justice Department Launches Probe Into Louisville Police Department Over Breonna Taylor Death\">police department follow<\/a> a two-day show-cause hearing last week over whether to release the shooter\u2019s writings or not. Several different parties sued the city of Nashville last year to gain access to the shooter\u2019s writings, including the Tennessee Firearms Association, The Tennessean, The Tennessee Star, Republican state legislator Todd Gardenhire, and the National Police Association.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Intervening in the case are the Covenant School, Covenant Presbyterian Church, and a group of parents who do not want the documents released. The city now maintains that it will release most of the writings once it concludes its investigation with specific redactions related to school security.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b><a href=\"https:\/\/onelink.to\/dwapp\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" aria-describedby=\"sk-tooltip-9096\" data-saferedirecturl=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/url?q=https:\/\/onelink.to\/dwapp&#038;source=gmail&#038;ust=1700760801843000&#038;usg=AOvVaw2PQrVSrJfhxNb4LcARqniG\">CLICK HERE TO GET THE DAILYWIRE+ APP<\/a><\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Myles\u2019 order also told each of the parties to produce legal briefs on whether there was a copyright exemption for public documents. The shooter\u2019s parents transferred copyright to her writings to Covenant parents, and representation for the parents has attempted to block the release of any of the shooter\u2019s writings through copyright claims.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Some of the parents have argued that releasing the killer\u2019s writings would allow her \u201cto speak from the grave\u201d and give her notoriety. On the other side, the groups have argued that the release of the writings will allow the public to understand motivations and give insight into stopping similar shootings.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Russ Nobile, a lawyer for Judicial Watch working with the Tennessee Firearms Association, argued last week that his clients wanted the documents because it was important to know what led to the shooting, especially because of the local and national implications of the case.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The parties have until April 29 to respond to how copyright claims interact with the Tennessee Public Records Act and Nashville has until May 2 to respond to Myles\u2019 other requests.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>In a different suit, a federal judge is <a href=\"https:\/\/tennesseestar.com\/justice\/fbi-delivers-covenant-killer-writings-to-federal-judge-for-in-camera-review\/khousler\/2024\/04\/22\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">currently reviewing<\/a> the FBI\u2019s documents on its investigation into the Covenant shooting after The Tennessee Star sued the agency for more details. U.S. District Court Judge Aleta A.
