Tom Cotton (R-AR), sent a letter to Attorney General Merrick Garland and Education Secretary Miguel Cardona as pro-Palestinian protests at <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/topic\/columbia-university\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Columbia University<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/police-arrest-dozens-of-anti-israel-protesters-at-yale\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Yale, and others<\/a> have led to reports of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/house-education-chair-demands-columbia-university-expulsions\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">harassment<\/a> and acts of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/topic\/anti-semitism\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">anti-Semitism<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYou need to take action to restore order and protect Jewish students on our college campuses,\u201d the letter <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cotton.senate.gov\/news\/press-releases\/cotton-colleagues-biden-administration-must-act-to-protect-jewish-students-from-pro-hamas-anti-semitic-mobs\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">said<\/a>. \u201cPresident Biden issued a statement on Sunday, purporting to condemn the outbreak of anti-Semitism. If that statement was serious, it must be accompanied by immediate action from your departments.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The GOP senators requested that Cardona and Garland provide their offices \u201can update\u201d on relevant efforts to enforce federal laws by 5 p.m. on Wednesday. They provided a non-exclusive list of examples.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cRioting violates federal law,\u201d the lawmakers said. \u201cViolence or attempted violence against anyone because of their Jewish heritage violates federal law. School administrators\u2019 failure to protect Jewish students from discrimination or harassment violates federal law and is grounds for those schools losing access to federal funds.
