State Sen. Josh \u200bNewman critiqued Clear for favoring wealthy \u200cindividuals over others during airport \u2064security screenings. Republican Sen. Janet Nguyen supported the bill, emphasizing fairness in airport security processes. Cops Colluded With Antifa.\">security line<\/a> at airports or face \u200dexclusion.  <\/p>\n<p class=\"readmore\">\n    <button onclick=\"showReadMore()\" id=\"readmorebtn\">Read more&#8230;<\/button>\n<\/p>\n<hr id=\"line\">\n<span id=\"more\"><\/p>\n<div>\n<p>Two <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/california\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"California\">California<\/a> lawmakers have proposed <a href=\"https:\/\/www.politico.com\/news\/2024\/04\/22\/california-bill-to-ban-clear-00153447\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>bipartisan legislation<\/a> that would ban Clear, a biometric travel document verification system, from airports across the state. <\/p>\n<p>State Sen. Josh Newman, a Democrat from Orange County and the sponsor of the legislation, said Clear effectively allows wealthy people to skip the line over those waiting to be screened by the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/tsa\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"Transportation Security Administration\">Transportation Security Administration<\/a> at U.S. airports.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe least you can expect when you have to go through the security line at the airport is that you don\u2019t suffer the indignity of somebody pushing you out of the way to let the rich person pass you,\u201d Newman said. <\/p>\n<p>Republican state Sen. Janet Nguyen, also representing Orange County, co-sponsored the legislation for similar reasons. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cI do understand the frustration stated in Sen. Newman\u2019s bill,\u201d Nguyen said. \u201cIt becomes a haves vs. have-nots where those who can afford it jump in front of the rest of us. They even cut in front of TSA pre-boarding pass travelers who have been screened by the TSA.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The bill would require Clear to obtain its own security line or lose access to operate in California airports. Those with Clear clearance pay $189 a year to verify their identities at the airport before being escorted to the front of the TSA line, essentially \u201ccutting\u201d the line.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s a basic equity issue when you see people subscribed to a concierge service being escorted in front of people who have waited a long time to get to the front of TSA line,\u201d Newman <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cbsnews.com\/news\/airport-security-line-california-clear-ban-tsa\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>said<\/a>. \u201cEveryone is beaten down by the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/5-woke-corporations-who-condemned-georgia-while-still-doing-business-with-china\/\" title=\"5 \u2018Woke\u2019 Corporations Who Condemned Georgia \u2026 While Still Doing Business With China\">travel experience<\/a>, and if Clear escorts a customer in front of you and tells TSA, \u2018Sorry, I have someone better,\u2019 it\u2019s really frustrating.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Delta Air Lines, United Airlines, Southwest Airlines, Alaska Airlines, JetBlue, and Hawaiian Airlines are fighting the bill. The airlines say this would cut their revenue, which could result in an increase in airfares. Delta, United, and Alaska are partnered with Clear. <\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe are proud to partner with nine airports across California \u2014 creating hundreds of jobs, sharing more than $13 million in annual revenue with our California <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/buttigieg-promises-less-chaos-for-travelers-as-2022-nightmare-season-lurks-in-memories\/\" title=\"Buttigieg promises less chaos for travelers as 2022 nightmare season lurks in memories\">airport partners<\/a> and serving nearly 1 million Californians,\u201d Clear said in a statement to CBS MoneyWatch. \u201cWe are always working with our airline and airport partners as well as local, state, and federal governments to ensure all travelers have a safer, easier checkpoint experience.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The legislation has the support of the Association of Flight Attendants and the Northern California branch of the American Federation of Government Employees, representing around 1,200 TSA agents. James Murdock, president of a local chapter TSA officers union, said Clear is \u201cnothing more than the luxury resale of upcharge of space in the airport security queue.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhile Clear may save time for its paying customers, non-customers suffer from Clear\u2019s aggressive sales tactics and longer security queues while they enter an essential security screening process,\u201d he said. <\/p>\n<p>Newman said his goal is to start a discussion around public resources like TSA security.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/washingtonexaminer.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title><strong>CLICK HERE TO READ MORE FROM THE WASHINGTON EXAMINER<\/strong><\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe hardest part is just getting a clear, no pun intended, understanding from all of the participants about what the bill is or isn\u2019t,\u201d Newman said. \u201cIt is not a personal grudge by one senator against this company.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The bill is expected to come before the California State Senate\u2019s Transportation Committee on Tuesday.<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<p><\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>California lawmakers introduce bipartisan bill to ban Clear, a biometric verification system, from state airports.
