Although there is an edited version, parents are advised to monitor their children&#8217;s media\u2062 consumption to ensure it aligns with age-appropriate content standards.  <\/p>\n<p class=\"readmore\">\n    <button onclick=\"showReadMore()\" id=\"readmorebtn\">Read more&#8230;<\/button>\n<\/p>\n<hr id=\"line\">\n<span id=\"more\"><\/p>\n<header> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/commentary\/\">  Commentary <\/a>   <span> <\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/author\/igcolonel\/\">  <\/a> <\/p>\n<p> <span>   By <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/author\/igcolonel\/%20\"><span>Warner Todd Huston<\/span><\/a> <\/span> <span>   April 22, 2024 at 2:19pm <\/span> <\/span>  <\/header>\n<section>\n<p>A group of mothers are <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/hotwire-our-democracy-itself-mcconnell-attacks-dems-for-the-people-voting-bill\/\" title=\"\u2018Hotwire Our Democracy Itself\u2019: McConnell Attacks Dems \u2018For The People\u2019 Voting Bill\">sounding alarm bells<\/a> over the \u201cdarkness\u201d they have found in the lyrics of Taylor Swift\u2019s latest hit album.<\/p>\n<p>The moms were seen pointing out the stream of foul language and the mature themes on Swift\u2019s latest album, \u201cThe Tortured Poets Department,\u201d which has seven explicit songs that carry warming labels, the <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2024\/04\/20\/entertainment\/taylor-tots-moms-cant-shake-off-taylor-swifts-ttpd-mature-themes-words\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">New York Post<\/a> reported.<\/p>\n<p>The question has been raised as to whether the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/taylor-swift-hits-new-low-compares-directly-jesus-new-album\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">extreme contents<\/a> of the album are suitable for Swift\u2019s young fans famously nicknamed \u201cTaylor Tots.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Swift is already well-known for her constant streams of songs with <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/taylor-swift-faces-fury-fans-sparks-backlash-racists-lyrics-many-things-wrong\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">lyrics<\/a> criticizing her past lovers, but this album seems to kick it all up a notch.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI feel bad for all the Taylor Tots because most parents are not going to deem this album appropriate,\u201d Swiftie Crystal Barkley wrote on the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/groups\/2254218764714763\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Taylor Swift\u2019s Vault<\/a> Facebook group.<\/p>\n<p>Her comment spurred a lot of feedback quickly gaining more than 1,000 comments as mothers of fans jumped in to agree that the album is problematic.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis album is definitely NOT suitable for kids,\u201d commenter Tana Hancock wrote.<\/p>\n<p>Mother Casey McDonald Smith added that the dark themes in the album were worrisome.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019m OK with the curse words, but there\u2019s a lot of self-harm, violence, and death talk I\u2019m not feeling comfy with at this second,\u201d Smith wrote.<\/p>\n<div id=\"firefly-poll-container\">\n<p>Do you think children should be listening to Taylor Swift\u2019s music?<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<p>Another mom said she intended to pay very close attention to the lyrics before she exposed her 9-year-old daughter to the album.<\/p>\n<p>Another mom, Kilee Herlin, exclaimed, \u201cI have been debating this myself. Not because of swears, but just because of the deep, mature feelings. It\u2019s definitely got some darkness.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI don\u2019t think her lyrics are for kids anymore as well. And that\u2019s OK. Let the kids listen to her older stuff then when they are 21, give them the rest and let them figure it out,\u201d fan Trayce Chambers agreed.<\/p>\n<p>Others, though, pointed out that <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/taylor-swift-gets-drunk-coachella-apologizes-travis-kelce-drinking-much-lip-reader\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Swift<\/a> has produced a cleaned up version of the album more suitable for younger fans.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cShe is writing about adult stuff \u2026 However there is a non-explicit version so if you\u2019re worried about the language itself that shouldn\u2019t be an issue,\u201d Anna Wells noted.<\/p>\n<p>Fan Kaitlyn Baumgardner, though, fully excused the dark turn heard on the album, writing dismissively, \u201cTaylor is a grown adult. She\u2019s going to write about adult s***.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cTaylor isn\u2019t for the little girls anymore, she grew up and so did we,\u201d Emily LaCroix wrote, adding, \u201cAnd we\u2019re here for it.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Regardless, many of these moms are right to be concerned. Currently, Swift is the most popular singer in music today, and her <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/taylor-swift-search-results-jump-351-fans-notice-travis-kelces-viral-new-look\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">influence<\/a> is vast. A dark, brooding, even dangerous album like this one could have far-reaching effects that Swift didn\u2019t even account for.<\/p>\n<p>Parents have every right to make sure that what their children are being <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/taylor-swift-issues-super-tuesday-message-followers\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">exposed to<\/a> is suitable for them, and parents need to be far more proactive about the media their kids consume.
