The legal battle took significant turns, with a \u200drevised \u2063agreement allowing exclusive\u200d control of \u2062the bond by Knight Specialty Insurance Co. and \u2063Trump. <span>   April 22, 2024 at 12:44pm <\/span> <\/span>  <\/header>\n<section>\n<p>Former President Donald Trump got some good news Monday when the $175 million bond in his civil fraud case was accepted by New York Judge Arthur Engoron, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.axios.com\/2024\/04\/22\/trump-bond-hearing-new-york-civil-fraud\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Axios<\/a> reported.<\/p>\n<p>Engoron\u2019s approval means New York Attorney General Letitia James won\u2019t be able to seize Trump\u2019s assets or freeze his bank accounts \u2014 a possibility if the Republican presidential candidate had been required to post a previous bond set at nearly half a billion dollars.<\/p>\n<p>James had <a href=\"https:\/\/www.axios.com\/2024\/04\/04\/new-york-trump-bond-175-million-letitia-james\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">questioned<\/a> the financial viability of the issuer of the bond, Knight Specialty Insurance Co.<\/p>\n<p>Among other things, she pointed to Knight\u2019s lack of registry with the New York State Department of Financial Services.<\/p>\n<p>Trump argued he had to go to California to retain the firm because he is prohibited from using a New York firm, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.usatoday.com\/story\/news\/politics\/elections\/2024\/04\/22\/donald-trump-appeal-bond-civil-fraud-175-million\/73410134007\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">USA Today<\/a> reported.<\/p>\n<p>On Friday, James made a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/a-look-a-leak-and-a-lie-durham-prosecutor-sums-up-case-against-sussmann-on-day-one-of-trial\/\" title=\"\u2018A Look, A Leak And A Lie\u2019: Durham Prosecutor Sums Up Case Against Sussmann On Day One Of Trial\">court filing arguing<\/a> that the defendants in the case and Knight had \u201cfailed to justify\u201d the surety of the bond and called upon Engoron to void the bond and make the former president post a different bond within seven days.<\/p>\n<p>Lawyers for the state expressed concern that Trump might have access to a cash account with Charles Schwab <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/baseball-great-curt-schilling-says-aig-canceled-his-insurance-over-his-conservative-beliefs-same-company-that-got-a-182-billion-bailout-from-us-taxpayers\/\" title=\"Baseball Great Curt Schilling Says AIG Canceled His Insurance Over his Conservative Beliefs \u2014 Same Company that Got a 2 Billion Bailout from US Taxpayers\">financial services<\/a> that was used as collateral for the Knight bond, USA Today reported.<\/p>\n<p>But the former president cannot remove the money without that action being approved by Knight, Trump lawyer Christopher Kise said in court on Monday.<\/p>\n<div id=\"firefly-poll-container\">\n<p>Will Trump emerge victorious from his legal battles?<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<p>Also, Kise said, Schwab would not allow access.\u00a0\u201cWe have to put the money somewhere,\u201d the attorney said.<\/p>\n<p>Nevertheless, Engoron questioned the arrangement.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYou keep using the word \u2018agreement,\u201d the judge said. \u201cWhat if they break the agreement?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt all seems like a house of cards,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>Lawyers for Trump and James hammered out a new agreement, which Engoron approved.<\/p>\n<p>Knight would keep \u201cexclusive control\u201d of the bond, with the company and Trump making monthly certifications that cash is available, according to the state.<\/p>\n<p>Also, Knight has agreed to the designation of an agent to handle the transactions, and any changes in agreements between the former president and the company require court approval, according to Axios.<\/p>\n<p>The bond represents a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/trump-posts-bond-ny-fraud-case-crushing-democrats-fantasies\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">substantial reduction<\/a> from the $454 million Trump was initially ordered to pay \u2014 an amount the billionaire would have had difficulty producing in cash.<\/p>\n<p>That shortfall had James anticipating the seizure of his business assets.<\/p>\n<p>Trump was accused of fraud in the overvaluation of property, which many have said is essentially a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/lib-host-jon-stewart-overvalued-home-829-saying-trump-civil-case-not-victimless\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">victimless<\/a> practice common in real estate.<\/p>\n<p>The state\u2019s action against the president has given pause to others <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/prominent-investor-cancels-new-york-plans-40-years-making-trump-ruling\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">engaged in business<\/a> in New
