Spearheaded by Speaker Mike Johnson, none of the approved packages included provisions that stop President Joe Biden\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/desantis-signs-law-increasing-penalties-for-illegal-border-crossers\/\" title=\"DeSantis Enacts Tougher Penalties for Unlawful Border Entry\">manufactured border invasion<\/a>. <\/p>\n<div class=\"fdrlst__b89e9-paragraph-2-long d-flex justify-content-center\" style=\"margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center; \" id=\"fdrlst__b89e9-163824302\">\n<div id=\"div-gpt-ad-1379703300879-0\" class=\"mb-30\"><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"fdrlst__b89e9-57f9e9299cdb1e9c34a0f3869587aa5f fdrlst__b89e9-paragraph-2\" id=\"fdrlst__b89e9-57f9e9299cdb1e9c34a0f3869587aa5f\"><\/div>\n<p>Johnson wasted no time in fast-tracking the measures to the House floor for consideration, ignoring objections from the House Freedom Caucus and breaking his <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2024\/04\/17\/mike-johnson-promised-to-fix-the-border-before-funneling-money-overseas-hes-doing-the-opposite\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">previous promises<\/a> to secure the U.S.-Mexico border before considering foreign spending bills. Proclaiming himself to be a \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/therecount\/status\/1780253175447982577\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">wartime speaker<\/a>,\u201d the Louisiana Republican repeated the moronic talking point that failure to move these packages forward (at Democrats\u2019 behest) would <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/GOP4Ukraine\/status\/1780699586220417403\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">prompt<\/a> Vladimir Putin to \u201cmarch through Europe.\u201d <\/p>\n<p>Like many spending packages that have passed under Johnson\u2019s speakership, the Ukraine supplemental <a href=\"https:\/\/clerk.house.gov\/Votes\/2024151\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">received<\/a> more support from Democrats than Republicans. Johnson has since received fawning coverage from legacy media such as <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnn.com\/2024\/04\/20\/politics\/mike-johnson-ukraine-aid-russia-zelensky-putin\/index.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">CNN<\/a>, which compared the speaker to World War II-era British Prime Minister Winston Churchill. <\/p>\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">GOP Primaries Are Key<\/h2>\n<p>Unfortunately, Saturday\u2019s vote is nothing new for conservatives. Whether it\u2019s the <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2024\/02\/05\/under-the-senates-atrocious-border-bill-everybody-gets-asylum\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">border<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2024\/01\/19\/speaker-johnson-is-willingly-funding-the-biden-regimes-authoritarianism\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">federal spending<\/a>, or the <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2022\/06\/22\/the-14-republicans-who-voted-to-advance-democrats-gun-control-wish-list-just-betrayed-their-base\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Second Amendment<\/a>, the GOP\u2019s laundry list of betrayal is long enough to wrap around the waist of Richard \u2014 I mean, Rachel \u2014 Levine. <\/p>\n<p>But it doesn\u2019t have to be this way. <\/p>\n<div class=\"fdrlst__b89e9-5b78a8eb533b3f883ddd984873c9dc34 fdrlst__b89e9-paragraph-6\" id=\"fdrlst__b89e9-5b78a8eb533b3f883ddd984873c9dc34\"><\/div>\n<p>While the 2024 GOP presidential primary is all but finished, there are dozens of states throughout the country that have yet to hold <a href=\"https:\/\/www.270towin.com\/2024-state-primary-calendar\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">primaries<\/a> for federal and state offices. The most immediate of these is <a href=\"https:\/\/whyy.org\/articles\/pennsylvania-philadelphia-election-2024-primary-voter-guide-deadlines\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Pennsylvania<\/a>, where Democrat and Republican voters will head to the polls Tuesday to pick their nominees for the U.S. Congress, attorney general, and various other races. <\/p>\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/good-news-three-of-ten-pro-impeachment-republicans-including-liz-cheney-already-have-primary-opponents\/\" title=\"Good News! Three of Ten Pro-Impeachment Republicans Including Liz Cheney ALREADY Have Primary Opponents\">primary system<\/a> is a great tool that allows party voters to oust politicians they feel aren\u2019t representing their interests. If a congressman representing a border district isn\u2019t prioritizing policies to stop the influx of illegal aliens crossing through that district, for example, primary voters unhappy with his job performance can replace him with someone they are excited to vote for during the general election. <\/p>\n<p>One might imagine that Americans\u2019 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.realclearpolling.com\/polls\/approval\/congressional-approval\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">overwhelming disapproval<\/a> of Congress would produce a high turnover rate among representatives and senators running for reelection. But that is not the case. <\/p>\n<p>In the 2022 midterms, for example, every U.S. senator and governor running for reelection <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cnn.com\/2022\/12\/07\/politics\/senate-incumbents-analysis\/index.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">won<\/a> their respective primaries \u2014 even after many of them spent years inflicting tyrannical and destructive Covid policies on their constituents. As I previously <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2024\/02\/09\/getting-involved-in-republican-primaries-is-the-best-way-to-weed-out-the-gop-establishment\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">wrote<\/a> in these pages, this trend isn\u2019t exclusive to those elections, either. <\/p>\n<div class=\"fdrlst__b89e9-fa414c2bfe20141c9df0676d2fd695d7 fdrlst__b89e9-paragraph-10\" id=\"fdrlst__b89e9-fa414c2bfe20141c9df0676d2fd695d7\"><\/div>\n<p>So far, the results from the completed 2024 statewide primaries indicate GOP primary voters are continuing this pattern. Of the states that have already held their respective congressional primaries, Alabama Rep. Jerry Carl is the only GOP member of Congress to lose re-nomination thus far. He was defeated by Republican Rep. Barry Moore during Alabama\u2019s March 5 primary after redistricting forced the two incumbents to run in the same district. <\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile, Texas GOP Rep. Tony Gonzales is at risk of losing his re-nomination bid after he <a href=\"https:\/\/www.270towin.com\/2024-election-results-live\/state\/texas\/primary\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">failed<\/a> to acquire more than 50 percent of the vote during the Lone Star State\u2019s March 5 primary. Gonzalez \u2014 who supported the aforementioned Ukraine spending bill \u2014 will face challenger Brandon Herrera in a May 28 runoff election. <\/p>\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Conservatives Must Rediscover Self-Governance<\/h2>\n<p>Conservatives are more than welcome to support whichever candidate they choose. That\u2019s their prerogative as voters and Americans. But unless they\u2019re willing to rediscover what it means to be a self-governing people, the GOP will continue to be the fake opposition party it\u2019s been for years.<\/p>\n<p>The reason Republicans like Mike Johnson are able to regularly screw over their constituents is because they don\u2019t fear backlash from their voters. They think most GOP electors won\u2019t show up to vote in primaries and those who do will overwhelmingly support the incumbent \u2014 and the data <a href=\"https:\/\/www.opensecrets.org\/elections-overview\/reelection-rates\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">shows<\/a> they\u2019re right. <\/p>\n<p><strong>[RELATED:[RELATED:<a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2024\/03\/06\/by-backing-establishment-candidates-trump-hampers-his-voters-agenda\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">By Backing Establishment Candidates, Trump Hurts His Voters And The \u2018America First\u2019 Agenda<\/a>]<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Contrary to popular belief, being a citizen means much more than showing up to vote every two to four election cycles. It\u2019s about showing up to your local school board and city council meetings; engaging with your local, state, and federal representatives; knowing what type of legislation is moving through each level of government; and yes, getting active in primary elections. <\/p>\n<p>Until the GOP establishment learns to fear repercussions from its voters, the bipartisan destruction of America will continue unabated. <\/p>\n<div class=\"fdrlst__b89e9-66a99fb4e05385d24beb815cb0790ada fdrlst__b89e9-after-post-content\" id=\"fdrlst__b89e9-66a99fb4e05385d24beb815cb0790ada\"><\/div>\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator\">    \t\t\t\t\t   \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n<p><\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>GOP&#8217;s recent actions highlight their unworthiness for re-election.
