Judge Arthur Engoron stipulated that Trump must grant \u2064Knight Specialty \u200cInsurance exclusive access to the collateral&#8217;s bank\u2064 account. This decision came after\u200d Letitia James\u2064 contested Trump&#8217;s \u2062collateral in court. The bond is linked to a previous \u200c$454 million \u200dfine against Trump for business \u2062fraud.  <\/p>\n<p class=\"readmore\">\n    <button onclick=\"showReadMore()\" id=\"readmorebtn\">Read more&#8230;<\/button>\n<\/p>\n<hr id=\"line\">\n<span id=\"more\"><\/p>\n<div>\n<p>A judge accepted <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/donald-trump\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Donald Trump<\/a>\u2018s $175 million bond in his civil fraud case after the former president and Attorney General Letitia James reached an agreement to modify the conditions of the bond during a hearing in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/new-york\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">New York<\/a> on Monday.<\/p>\n<p>Judge Arthur Engoron said that so long as Trump gave Knight Specialty Insurance, a small Delaware-based insurer, exclusive access to the bank account that is serving as collateral for the bond, then the judge would approve it, according to a <em>Law360<\/em> <a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/rscharf_\/status\/1782412433111273521\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">report<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Engoron\u2019s decision comes after James argued in a motion that Trump did not have \u201csufficiently secure and ascertainable collateral backing the bond\u201d and that Engoron should therefore reject it.<\/p>\n<p>Trump was required to post the bond while he fights a judgment issued by Engoron in February that he pay $454 million in fines and interest after Engoron found Trump and Trump Organization executives liable for years of business fraud.<\/p>\n<p>An appellate court recently agreed with Trump that while the former president\u2019s appeal of the judgment remains pending, he should not have to post a bond for the full amount of the judgment but rather for $175 million. Trump had argued that he could not pay the full amount because no company would authorize a bond payment of that magnitude.<\/p>\n<p>A Schwab brokerage account that Trump had control over was serving as the collateral for Knight\u2019s bond.<\/p>\n<figure><figcaption>Former president Donald Trump speaks after leaving the courtroom at Manhattan criminal court, Monday, April 22, 2024, in New York.
