Throughout the trial, Trump expressed frustration with the case, alleging \u200cunfair treatment. The trial, spanned up to \u2063eight weeks, is closely\u2062 watched \u2062for its political implications. \u2062The commencement of the inaugural criminal trial\u200d of ex-President Donald Trump kicked off after the \u2063completion of jury selection. Despite aiming for brief opening \u200bstatements, delays ensued following a juror&#8217;s dental \u2064emergency. Trump\u200b voiced dissatisfaction with perceived \u2064unfair treatment. Upper III<\/span><\/a> <\/span> <span>   April 22, 2024 at 7:54am <\/span> <\/span>  <\/header>\n<section>\n<p>With jury selection having been wrapped up last week, the first criminal trial of a former president of the United States got underway Monday morning at just about 9:30, when Judge Juan Merchan took the bench.<\/p>\n<p>Opening statements in Donald Trump\u2019s criminal trial in Manhattan were expected to take a little over an hour, with the prosecution\u2019s statement slated to take almost twice as long as the defense\u2019s, according to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nbcnews.com\/politics\/donald-trump\/live-blog\/trump-hush-money-trial-live-updates-opening-statements-rcna148737#rcrd39573\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">NBC News<\/a>, which was providing live updates on the trial as the morning continued.<\/p>\n<p>One of those updates was that alternate juror 6 \u2014 literally the last juror impaneled last week \u2014 had experienced a dental \u201cemergency\u201d and had scheduled an appointment for 3:00 this afternoon.<\/p>\n<p>However, that appointment was moved up to 1:20, so Merchan declared that the court would recess at 12:30, allowing her to make her appointment on time.<\/p>\n<p>The court was also scheduled for a short today Tuesday, planning to finish up at 2:00 p.m. for Passover.<\/p>\n<p>Other \u201clive updates\u201d from NBC included the facts that none of Trump\u2019s family members appeared to be present in the courtroom, but that Manhattan District Attorney <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/alvin-braggs-office-suffers-big-loss-case-donald-trump\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Alvin Bragg<\/a>, who brought the case against Trump but is not serving as lead prosecutor himself, was observing from the gallery.<\/p>\n<p>About a half hour after <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/judge-hands-trump-big-loss-massive-hush-money-trial\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Merchan<\/a> took his seat on the bench, the jury was brought in, and things got underway.<\/p>\n<p>Opening statements began about another 30 minutes after that, during which time the judge read the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/trump-jury-reveal-get-news-pay-attention-jurors-no-2-4\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">jury<\/a> its instructions.<\/p>\n<p>Halfway through that period, NBC informed its readers that \u201cTrump\u2019s eyes are shut and across the aisle, Bragg is catching a glimpse of the former president from his seat in the front row of the gallery.\u201d<\/p>\n<div id=\"firefly-poll-container\">\n<p>Is Trump being treated unfairly by NY officials?<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<p>\u201cTrump faces 34 counts of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/rep-jordan-subpoenas-former-manhattan-prosecutor-who-pushed-for-trump-indictment\/\" title=\"Rep. Jordan Subpoenas Former Manhattan Prosecutor Who Pushed for Trump Indictment\">falsifying business records related<\/a> to the hush money payment to adult film actress Stormy Daniels,\u201d the outlet noted in an arguably more cogent observation.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cHe has pleaded not guilty and denied a relationship with Daniels,\u201d it reported.<\/p>\n<p>Just after midnight Monday morning, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/seated-trump-juror-dismissed-admitting-cant-fair-unbiased\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Trump<\/a> expressed frustration with the case against him.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe Corrupt Soros Funded District Attorney, Alvin Bragg, who has totally lost control of Violent Crime in New York, says that the payment of money to a lawyer, for <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/blms-pac-has-blown-through-nearly-all-its-cash-reserves-in-the-first-quarter-of-2022\/\" title=\"BLM\u2019s PAC Has Blown Through Nearly All Its Cash Reserves in the First Quarter of 2022\">legal services rendered<\/a>, should not be referred to in a Ledger as LEGAL EXPENSE,\u201d Trump wrote on Truth Social. \u201cWhat other term would be more appropriate???<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBelieve it or not, this is the pretext under which I was Indicted, and that Legal Scholars and Experts CANNOT BELIEVE,\u201d he added (all emphasis original).<\/p>\n<p>He also repeated the argument that his prosecution was a Democrat-originated strategy aimed at keeping him from winning the White House again in November.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt is also the perfect Crooked Joe Biden NARRATIVE \u2013 To be STUCK in a courtroom, and not be allowed to campaign for President of the United States!\u201d Trump wrote.<\/p>\n<p>The trial is expected to last \u201cas long as eight weeks,\u201d according to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.usatoday.com\/story\/news\/politics\/2024\/04\/22\/donald-trump-hush-money-trial-news-live-updates\/73406695007\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">USA Today<\/a>.<\/p>\n<hr>\n<div>\n<p><b><i>An Important Message from Our Staff:<\/i><\/b><\/p>\n<p><i><span>We who work here at The Western Journal have fought for years against Big Tech and the elites who want to shut us down and then shut America down. <\/span><\/i><\/p>\n<p><i><span>Make no mistake \u2014 nothing will be the same after November 2024.
