J.B. Pritzker is taking aim at what he calls \u201cpredatory health insurance practices\u201d with his Healthcare Protection Act.<\/p>\n<p>Among other things, the legislation would ban step therapy, the tactic insurers use to require people to receive less effective drug treatments before moving to options initially prescribed by doctors. It also includes new requirements for insurers to offer enough in-network doctors to meet patients\u2019 needs.<\/p>\n<p>The proposal would make Illinois the first state in the country to ban prior authorization for in-patient adult and children\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/white-house-releases-list-of-president-trumps-accomplishments-and-it-is-historic\/\" title=\"White House Releases List of President Trump\u2019s Accomplishments \u2013  And It Is Historic!\">mental health care<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe bill\u2019s purpose is to make quality care easier to access for patients all across the state of Illinois and to increase accountability in <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/wisconsin-dem-senate-candidate-announces-support-for-medicare-for-all\/\" title=\"Wisconsin Dem Senate Candidate Announces Support for Medicare for All\">insurance companies<\/a>,\u201d Pritzker said.<\/p>\n<p>Pritzker plans to tour the state this week to publicize the legislation.<\/p>\n<p>Additionally, the measure mandates that all <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/new-york-is-pressuring-regulated-insurance-companies-to-hire-based-on-diversity-goals\/\" title=\"New York Is Pressuring Regulated Insurance Companies To Hire Based On \u2018Diversity\u2019 Goals\">insurance companies regulated<\/a> by the state of Illinois disclose treatments requiring prior authorization, facilitating consumers\u2019 ability to compare plans when seeking coverage. Short Term Limited Duration insurance plans, often called \u201cjunk insurance,\u201d will also be barred.<\/p>\n<p>The legislation\u2019s final initiative targets the elimination of unchecked rate increases in fully insured large-group insurance carriers.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis legislation makes sure that health plans don\u2019t get between a patient and their doctor when they are making life altering decisions, or requires that patients try alternatives to the prescribed medication, because it\u2019s cheaper for the insurance company,\u201d said the bill\u2019s sponsor, state Rep. Anna Moeller, D-Elgin.<\/p>\n<p>State Rep.
