Cruz Fires Back Photo That Star Signed To Him.\">entertainment industry<\/a>.  <\/p>\n<p class=\"readmore\">\n    <button onclick=\"showReadMore()\" id=\"readmorebtn\">Read more&#8230;<\/button>\n<\/p>\n<hr id=\"line\">\n<span id=\"more\"><\/p>\n<header> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/entertainment\/\">  Entertainment <\/a>  <\/p>\n<h2>Marvel Movie Star Blames Stan Lee for Disney&#8217;s Lack of Creativity: Here&#8217;s Why That&#8217;s Ridiculous<\/h2>\n<p> <span> <\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/author\/dzimmerman\/\">  <\/a> <\/p>\n<p> <span>   By <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/author\/dzimmerman\/%20\"><span>David Zimmermann<\/span><\/a> <\/span> <span>   April 21, 2024 at 3:27pm <\/span> <\/span>  <\/header>\n<section>\n<p>In a bizarre claim, a prominent Marvel movie star claimed the Marvel Cinematic Universe is creatively limited by the comic book canon established by Stan Lee and other creators.<\/p>\n<p>Anthony Mackie, who first played Sam Wilson a.k.a. the Falcon in \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/major-marvel-star-says-quiet-part-loud-admits-favorite-mcu-film-came-decade-ago\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Captain America: The Winter Soldier<\/a>\u201d a decade ago, argued that Disney\u2019s MCU lacks creativity because its films and television series take direct inspiration from Lee\u2019s work rather than creating something new or <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/the-continuous-media-covid-fear-mongering-may-backfire-and-diminish-democrat-voter-turnout\/\" title=\"The Continuous Media COVID Fear Mongering May BACKFIRE and Diminish Democrat Voter Turnout\">original<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>In an interview with British entertainment outlet <a href=\"https:\/\/www.radiotimes.com\/tv\/sci-fi\/anthony-mackie-twisted-metal-marvel-big-rt-interview\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Radio Times<\/a> last month, Mackie compared his time with Marvel to his most recent project, \u201cTwisted Metal,\u201d a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/no-spike-in-florida-coronavirus-cases-despite-no-mask-mandate\/\" title=\"No Spike in Florida Coronavirus Cases Despite No Mask Mandate\">live<\/a>-action television show based on the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/illinois-lawmaker-wants-to-ban-grand-theft-auto-claiming-its-responsible-for-increased-carjackings\/\" title=\"Illinois Lawmaker Wants To Ban \u2018Grand Theft Auto,\u2019 Claiming It\u2019s Responsible For Increased Carjackings\">video game series<\/a> of the same name.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI would say the Marvel thing is completely different, just because it\u2019s such a space of controlled entertainment. Like, there\u2019s only so much you can do. There\u2019s only so much creativity you can bring to the table, because Stan Lee gave us so much content,\u201d Mackie said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhereas with this [Twisted Metal], it was like, \u2018There\u2019s a guy and a girl\u2026 go!\u2019 So we were really able to build the world around it,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/anthony-mackie-calls-hollywood-hire-best-person-job-regardless-skin-color\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Mackie<\/a> felt he could have more creative liberty with \u201cTwisted Metal\u201d due to the gaming franchise\u2019s lack of storytelling. The same can\u2019t be said of Marvel, which has 85 years of stories to draw from.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThat\u2019s the hard thing about the Marvel universe. It\u2019s like, you can\u2019t really go outside of the lines of those comic books,\u201d the 45-year-old actor continued.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYou know, when we introduced the Falcon, and the growth of the Falcon to Captain America, all of that had to coincide with what Stan had already gave us. So it\u2019s an interesting juggle to be a part of that world. And this was more like, \u2018Let\u2019s just have fun and figure it out as we go.&#8217;\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Contrary to Mackie\u2019s opinion, working within the confines of a fictional universe doesn\u2019t necessarily translate to a lack of creativity. This is what Eric July, the founder and CEO of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/marvel-dc-superhero-universe-alternative-hits-sky-high-sales-breaks-1-million-one-day\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Rippaverse Comics<\/a>, said in a recent video.<\/p>\n<p> <iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"I REJECT this. | Anthony Mackie in denial\" width=\"500\" height=\"281\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/lHQ_hfSR90I?feature=oembed\" frameborder=\"0\" allow=\"accelerometer; autoplay; clipboard-write; encrypted-media; gyroscope; picture-in-picture; web-share\" referrerpolicy=\"strict-origin-when-cross-origin\" allowfullscreen><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>The independent comic book creator wholly rejected the idea that creativity is a \u201cfree-for-all\u201d and explained how limits and rules need to be put in place for a story to flourish.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI think creativity is being able to operate within confines that exist and coming up with a fresh story,\u201d July said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cBut we live in this world now where creativity \u2026 is being able to do whatever you want,\u201d he added, \u201ceven if it deviates so far from stories that have been told before or so far from who the characters are at its core.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cCreativity is not a free-for-all \u2026 They\u2019re not interchangeable words.\u201d<\/p>\n<div id=\"firefly-poll-container\">\n<p>Do you agree with Anthony Mackie?<\/p>\n<\/p><\/div>\n<p>July also pointed out that the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.westernjournal.com\/reviews-disneys-newest-mcu-show-flop\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">MCU<\/a> has not been historically comic book accurate when it comes to certain characters, some examples of which <a href=\"https:\/\/boundingintocomics.com\/2024\/03\/28\/marvel-star-anthony-mackie-bizarrely-claims-the-mcu-is-limited-by-comic-book-canon-theres-only-so-much-creativity-you-can-bring-to-the-table-because-stan-lee-gave-us-so-much-content\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Bounding into Comics<\/a> noted. While Phase One of the MCU was largely accurate to its source material, a noticeable change happened in Phase Two.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cFor some brief examples of Marvel\u2019s change in design philosophy, look no further than the fact that such elements as Trevor Slattery having spent a significant time impersonating The Mandarin, Darren Cross\u2019 taking up the identity of Yellowjacket, and the entirety of The Guardians of the Galaxy\u2019s depiction represent significant deviations from their original comic book forms,\u201d Bounding into Comics wrote.<\/p>\n<p>Moreover, Mackie should be thanking Lee for creating multitudinous superheroes, including his own.
