The bill doesn&#8217;t mention Trump by name but\u2062 could affect him if \u2063convicted of a \u2062felony. While not directly naming Trump,\u200b the bill&#8217;s implications could impact him if found guilty of a felony. Bennie Thompson (D-MS), the Democrat who led the now-defunct January 6 Committee, <a href=\"https:\/\/democrats-homeland.house.gov\/news\/legislation\/ranking-member-thompson-introduces-legislation-to-ensure-no-secret-service-protection-for-convicted-felons-sentenced-to-prison#:~:text=This%20legislation%20would%20reform%20the,the%20protection%20of%20all%20inmates\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">announced<\/a> legislation last week that could disqualify former President Donald Trump from keeping Secret Service protection.<\/p>\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/democrats-homeland.house.gov\/imo\/media\/doc\/disgraced_former_protectees_act_text.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">bill<\/a>, which comes as Trump faces multiple criminal cases as he runs for another term in the White House, does not mention the former president by name. However, Thompson, who is the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/alleged-fraud-romance-and-regulatory-neglect-the-ftx-scandal-deepens\/\" title=\"Alleged Fraud, Romance, and Regulatory Neglect: The FTX Scandal Deepens\">top-ranking member<\/a> of the Homeland Security Committee, released a <a href=\"https:\/\/democrats-homeland.house.gov\/imo\/media\/doc\/disgraced_former_protectees_act_factsheet1.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">\u201cfact sheet\u201d<\/a> that says Trump would be affected if the proposal passes and he is convicted of a felony.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cUnfortunately, current law doesn\u2019t anticipate how Secret Service protection would impact the felony prison sentence of a protectee \u2014 even a former President. It is regrettable that it has come to this, but this previously unthought-of scenario could become our reality,\u201d Thompson said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cTherefore, it is necessary for us to be prepared and update the law so the American people can be assured that protective status does not translate into special treatment \u2014 and that those who are sentenced to prison will indeed serve the time required of them,\u201d he added.<\/p>\n<p>Trump is facing dozens of felony charges in federal and state courts that stem from election matters and his handling of classified documents while out of office. He has pleaded not guilty to all counts and claims prosecutors and others are waging a \u201cwitch hunt\u201d against him in an effort to boost his 2024 rival, President Joe Biden.<\/p>\n<p><b><a href=\"https:\/\/onelink.to\/dwapp\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" aria-describedby=\"sk-tooltip-9096\" data-saferedirecturl=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/url?q=https:\/\/onelink.to\/dwapp&#038;source=gmail&#038;ust=1700760801843000&#038;usg=AOvVaw2PQrVSrJfhxNb4LcARqniG\">CLICK HERE TO GET THE DAILYWIRE+ APP<\/a><\/b><\/p>\n<p>Should Thompson\u2019s bill get approved \u2014 a long shot considering Republicans control the House and largely back Trump \u2014 <a href=\"https:\/\/democrats-homeland.house.gov\/imo\/media\/doc\/disgraced_former_protectees_act_text.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">it would amend<\/a> a section of the U.S. Code to \u201cterminate\u201d Secret Service protection for \u201cany person upon sentencing following conviction for a Federal or State offense that is punishable for a term of imprisonment of at least one year.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The bill is called the \u201cDenying Infinite Security and Government Resources Allocated toward Convicted and Extremely Dishonorable Former Protectees Act,\u201d or the \u201cDISGRACED Former Protectees Act\u201d for short, and Thompson\u2019s office said it several co-sponsors among fellow Democrats.<\/p>\n<p>Under Thompson\u2019s leadership, the January 6 Committee <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/breaking-j6-committee-recommends-criminal-charges-against-trump-over-capitol-riot\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">recommended<\/a> the Department of Justice charge Trump over the U.S. Capitol breach on January 6, 2021. Trump <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/the-trump-charges-jan-6-panel-considered-but-did-not-approve\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">chastised<\/a> the January 6 panel as being the \u201cUnselect Committee of political hacks.\u201d In March, Trump said former Rep.
