The group highlighted environmental concerns\u200c and \u2062dissatisfaction with \u200cMassport&#8217;s actions.  <\/p>\n<p class=\"readmore\">\n    <button onclick=\"showReadMore()\" id=\"readmorebtn\">Read more&#8230;<\/button>\n<\/p>\n<hr id=\"line\">\n<span id=\"more\"><\/p>\n<div data-td-block-uid=\"tdi_78\">\n<p>Some 20 <a href=\"http:\/\/washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/protests\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>climate protesters<\/a> were arrested Saturday during a <a href=\"http:\/\/washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/air-travel\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>runway<\/a> demonstration at <a href=\"http:\/\/washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/massachusetts\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>Massachusetts<\/a>\u2018s Hanscom Field Airport.<\/p>\n<p>Massachusetts State Police confronted a group of 25 protesters from the group Extinction Rebellion Boston, which was demonstrating in opposition to the airport\u2019s proposal to add 27 more hangars across 47 new acres on the airport\u2019s western side. A portion of the protesters crossed a perimeter to block a runway, which shut down the airport temporarily. The individuals are now facing charges of trespassing and disorderly conduct.<\/p>\n<figure><\/figure>\n<p>\u201cThe residents of Massachusetts don\u2019t want it, and sending letters to Massport isn\u2019t getting the message across,\u201d Jamie McGonagill, the group\u2019s spokeswoman, <a href=\"https:\/\/xrboston.org\/press\/climate-activists-disrupt-private-flights-at-hanscom-airfield-protesting-proposed-expansion\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"said\">said<\/a>. \u201cThere is nothing environmentally redeeming in what you\u2019re planning to do here, and you don\u2019t care about that anyway. You cater to the small niche of the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/french-fashion-executive-becomes-richest-man-in-world-gets-overtaken-by-bezos-hours-later\/\" title=\"French Fashion Executive Becomes Richest Man In World, Gets Overtaken By Bezos Hours Later\">richest people<\/a> in Massachusetts, and you make no bones about it. I want to express severe disappointment in Massport. I know the destruction you folks intend to wreak on Massachusetts, and I resent it. This is all about becoming richer yourselves by helping people a little richer than you.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>However, Massachusetts determined the affected area has an \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/www.mass.gov\/info-details\/environmental-justice-populations-in-massachusetts#what-is-an-environmental-justice-population?-\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"Environmental Justice Population\">Environmental Justice Population<\/a>,\u201d a category that means the residents there either make at most 65% of the statewide <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/most-of-bidens-1-9-trillion-coronavirus-relief-bill-has-nothing-to-do-with-public-health\/\" title=\"Most Of Biden\u2019s .9 Trillion Coronavirus Relief Bill Has Nothing To Do With Public Health\">annual median<\/a> household income, 40% of them are minorities, or a quarter of them identify as not speaking English well. Any population that makes 150% more than the annual median do not qualify for this category.<\/p>\n<p>The <em>Washington Examiner<\/em> reached out to Hanscom Field for comment.<\/p>\n<p>Extinction Rebellion Boston called for Gov. Maura Healey (D-MA) to take a stand against the expansion.
