The strike at\u2063 the Eighth Shekari Air Base specifically\u200c disabled\u2062 the critical radar \u200bof the\u2062 Russian-made S-300 system, shedding \u200blight on the escalating geopolitical tensions in the area.  <\/p>\n<p class=\"readmore\">\n    <button onclick=\"showReadMore()\" id=\"readmorebtn\">Read more&#8230;<\/button>\n<\/p>\n<hr id=\"line\">\n<span id=\"more\"><\/p>\n<p>The Israeli airstrike on Iran this week damaged a critical part of an air defense system at a military base that the Iranians use to protect the country\u2019s key nuclear facilities, according to satellite imagery.<\/p>\n<p>Images analyzed by experts found that the attack on the Eighth Shekari Air Base destroyed the \u201cflap-lid\u201d radar that the Russian-made S-300 air defense system uses to locate and track incoming enemy targets, The New York Times <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/live\/2024\/04\/20\/world\/israel-iran-gaza-war-news\">reported<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Iranian officials confirmed to the Times that the missiles struck the air defense system that is used to defend the area around <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nti.org\/education-center\/facilities\/natanz-enrichment-complex\/\">Natanz<\/a>, where Iran has its primary nuclear enrichment facility, and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nti.org\/education-center\/facilities\/isfahan-esfahan-nuclear-technology-center-intc\/\">Isfahan<\/a>, which is home to the Isfahan Nuclear Technology Center (INTC), the country\u2019s largest nuclear research complex that employs 3,000 scientists, according to the Nuclear Threat Initiative.<\/p>\n<p>Western intelligence officials said that the Israelis fired one missile from a warplane \u201cfar from Israeli or Iranian airspace\u201d that \u201cincluded technology that enabled it to evade Iran\u2019s radar defenses.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The Iranians told the Times that the country\u2019s air defense system, which they admitted was hit, was never activated because it did not detect any incoming projectiles.<\/p>\n<p>Former U.S. government imagery analyst Chris Biggers posted a photo of the satellite imagery that <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/first-colonial-site-in-maryland-discovered-after-90-year-search\/\" title=\"First Colonial Site In Maryland Discovered After 90-Year Search\">showed evidence<\/a> that the S-300 system had been damaged.<\/p>\n<blockquote class=\"twitter-tweet\" data-width=\"500\" data-dnt=\"true\">\n<p lang=\"en\" dir=\"ltr\">Umbra synthetic aperture radar imagery acquired 0648Z 19APR2024 showed evidence of damage to the Iranian S-300PMU2 strategic surface-to-air missile battery in Isfahan since 15APR2024.
