Friday\u2019s vote, organized by the National Labor Relations Board, saw 73%, 2,628 people, vote in favor. Voter turnout was 83.5%. <\/p>\n<p>The vote was seen by many as the first major test of the UAW union\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/lawmakers-reintroduce-bill-to-abolish-qualified-immunity-for-police\/\" title=\"Lawmakers Reintroduce Bill to Abolish Qualified Immunity for Police\">renewed efforts<\/a> to unionize factories without unions, the <em>Associated Press<\/em> <a href=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/article\/volkswagen-union-vote-united-auto-workers-chattanooga-51544590d8a06efddfa2f6ac7db00fbe?user_email=162c5ae443a61a52f524de737cc6f3c61712d530f24f119829e8cac99ab49798&#038;utm_medium=APNews_Alerts&#038;utm_source=Sailthru_AP&#038;utm_campaign=NewsAlerts_04192024_UAW&#038;utm_term=AP%20News%20Alerts\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"reported\">reported<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI think it\u2019s the reality of where we are and the times that we\u2019re in,\u201d UAW president Shawn Fain said after the result. \u201cWorkers are fed up in being left behind.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis gives workers everywhere else the indication that it\u2019s OK,\u201d he added. \u201cAll we\u2019ve heard for years is we can\u2019t win here, you can\u2019t do this in the South, and you can.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>President <a href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonexaminer.com\/tag\/Joe-Biden\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title>Joe Biden<\/a> had voiced support for the unionization drive beforehand and congratulated them afterward on the successful vote.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cTogether, these <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/chicago-police-union-wins-minor-victory-in-city-vaccine-mandate-suit\/\" title=\"Chicago Police union wins minor victory in city vaccine mandate suit\">union wins<\/a> have helped raise wages and demonstrate once again that the middle-class built America and that unions are still building and expanding the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/under-trump-americans-have-seen-their-best-wage-growth-in-40-years\/\" title=\"Under Trump, Americans Have Seen Their Best Wage Growth In 40 Years\">middle class<\/a> for all workers,\u201d he said in a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.whitehouse.gov\/briefing-room\/statements-releases\/2024\/04\/19\/statement-from-president-joe-biden-on-uaw-vote-in-tennessee\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"statement\">statement<\/a> Friday.<\/p>\n<p>Prior to the vote, six Republican governors, Govs. Kay Ivey (R-AL), Brian Kemp (R-GA), Tate Reeves (R-MS), Henry McMaster (R-SC), Bill Lee (R-TN), and Greg Abbott (R-TX), <a href=\"https:\/\/www.einpresswire.com\/article\/704094920\/governor-henry-mcmaster-fellow-republican-governors-issue-joint-statement-in-opposition-to-united-auto-workers-unionization-campaign\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"warned\">warned<\/a> about potential negative consequences if workers voted in favor.<\/p>\n<p>The governors said they were \u201chighly concerned about the unionization campaign driven by misinformation and scare tactics that the UAW has brought into our states.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe reality is companies have choices when it comes to where to invest and bring jobs and\u00a0opportunity,\u201d the statement read. \u201cIn America, we respect our workforce and we do not need to pay a third party to tell us who can pick up a box or flip a\u00a0switch. No one wants to hear this, but it\u2019s the ugly reality.
