The Sandyford clinic in Glasgow, Scotland\u2019s lone youth gender clinic, announced \u2063the\u2064 decision. Existing\u2064 patients will continue treatment,\u2062 but new restrictions \u2062require teenagers to be 18 for hormone prescriptions. This action follows the Cass Review, which raised concerns\u200c about <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/maine-legislature-kills-bill-that-would-let-state-take-custody-of-children-for-transgender-medical-services\/\" title=\"Maine Legislature rejects bill allowing state to intervene in children's transgender medical care\">transgender \u200dmedical services<\/a> for \u2062youth in England.  <\/p>\n<p class=\"readmore\">\n    <button onclick=\"showReadMore()\" id=\"readmorebtn\">Read more&#8230;<\/button>\n<\/p>\n<hr id=\"line\">\n<span id=\"more\"><\/p>\n<p>Scotland has paused all new prescriptions of transgender medications such as puberty blockers and cross-sex hormones for minors, the latest in a string of developments in Britain pumping the brakes on transgender medical services for minors.<\/p>\n<p>Scotland\u2019s only youth gender clinic, the Sandyford clinic in Glasgow, which is operated by Scotland\u2019s National Health Service (NHS) <a href=\"https:\/\/www.sandyford.scot\/sexual-health-services\/gender-service-at-sandyford\/gender-young-people-service\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">made<\/a> the announcement on Thursday.<\/p>\n<p>New prescriptions for puberty blockers and cross-sex hormones have been paused, although children already receiving these drugs will be able to remain on them, the clinic said in a statement. Teenagers must now be 18 before being <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/new-data-reveals-pediatric-gender-clinic-referrals-in-australia-have-skyrocketed\/\" title=\"New Data Reveals Pediatric Gender Clinic Referrals In Australia Have \u2018Skyrocketed\u2019\">prescribed cross-sex hormones<\/a>, the clinic said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe are committed to providing the best possible clinical care for young people accessing and understand the distress that gender incongruence can cause,\u201d the clinic said. \u201cWhile this pause is in place, we will continue to give anyone who is referred into the Young People Gender Service the psychological support that they require while we review the pathways in line with the findings.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Scotland\u2019s decision <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/weak-evidence-britains-nhs-to-review-all-transgender-treatment-after-major-report\">comes after<\/a> the release of the Cass Review, a long-awaited review criticizing youth transgender medical services was released last week in England.<\/p>\n<p>The landmark final <a href=\"https:\/\/cass.independent-review.uk\/home\/publications\/final-report\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">report<\/a> from pediatrician Dr. Hilary Cass is the result of a major independent <a href=\"https:\/\/cass.independent-review.uk\/publications\/interim-report\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">review<\/a> on children and gender identity <a href=\"https:\/\/www.england.nhs.uk\/commissioning\/spec-services\/npc-crg\/gender-dysphoria-clinical-programme\/implementing-advice-from-the-cass-review\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">commissioned<\/a> by the NHS in 2020.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe reality is that we have no good evidence on the long-term outcomes of interventions to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/researcher-debunks-claim-trans-youths-mental-health-improves-with-gender-affirming-care\/\" title=\"Researcher Debunks Claim Trans Youth\u2019s Mental Health Improves With \u2018Gender Affirming\u2019 Care\">manage gender-related distress<\/a>,\u201d Cass stated in her report. The evidence we do have for gender medicine is built on \u201cshaky foundations,\u201d she wrote in an accompanying <a class=\"css-yywogo\" title=\"\" href=\"https:\/\/www.bmj.com\/content\/385\/bmj.q814\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">editorial<\/a> published in a medical journal.<\/p>\n<p>Puberty blockers should no longer be prescribed to children except in the context of research due to these powerful drugs\u2019 effects on brain development and bone health, the report says.<\/p>\n<p><b><a href=\"https:\/\/onelink.to\/dwapp\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" aria-describedby=\"sk-tooltip-9096\" data-saferedirecturl=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/url?q=https:\/\/onelink.to\/dwapp&#038;source=gmail&#038;ust=1713611654298000&#038;usg=AOvVaw3YPWSe9w05H79aayRzLC1M\">CLICK HERE TO GET THE DAILYWIRE+ APP<\/a><\/b><\/p>\n<p>Cross-sex hormones \u2014 estrogen and testosterone \u2014 should be prescribed to trans-identifying 16 and 17-year-olds only with an \u201cextremely cautious\u201d approach, and there should be a \u201cclear clinical rationale\u201d for not waiting until the teen is 18, the report says.<\/p>\n<p>Waiting would preserve fertility and manage any other conditions. The report also warns that children who are referred to gender services present with high rates of abuse and neglect including sexual abuse and parental substance abuse.<\/p>\n<p>In the wake of the report, Britain\u2019s National Health Service (NHS) said all new treatment for 16 and 17-year-olds will be paused immediately, and it will review all transgender medical treatment.<\/p>\n<p>The week before the report was released, the Tavistock clinic, England\u2019s only <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/europe-dialing-back-shocking-policies-on-transgender-kids-and-medical-intervention\/\" title=\"Europe Dialing Back Shocking Policies On Transgender Kids And Medical Intervention\">youth gender identity clinic<\/a>, officially closed its doors after being dogged by controversy for years.<\/p>\n<p>The clinic, the biggest in the world, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.newstatesman.com\/politics\/health\/2024\/03\/inside-the-collapse-of-the-tavistock-centre\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">referred<\/a> thousands of children for puberty blockers. In its last years, Tavistock began to see an increasing flood of young girls with gender-related distress asking for drugs despite having other mental issues like depression, anxiety, eating disorders, and histories of abuse.<\/p>\n<p>In the U.S., <a href=\"https:\/\/www.dailywire.com\/news\/indianas-ban-on-transgender-medical-services-for-minors-can-take-effect-court-rules#\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">at least<\/a> 23 states have already moved to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/weak-evidence-britains-nhs-to-review-all-transgender-treatment-after-major-report\/\" title=\"Limited Evidence Prompts NHS to Review Transgender Treatments Following Significant Report\">ban medical transgender services<\/a> for children.<\/p>\n<p><\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Scotland has halted new prescriptions of transgender medications for minors, including puberty blockers and cross-sex hormones.
