The jurors will hear Bragg\u2019s claim that Trump broke the law by allegedly classifying payments made by his then-lawyer, Michael Cohen, to pornographer Stormy Daniels as part of a nondisclosure agreement as \u201clegal fees\u201d instead of campaign expenditures. This juror is reportedly set to serve as the case\u2019s foreman, according to <a href=\"https:\/\/abcnews.go.com\/Politics\/7-jurors-trumps-historic-criminal-trial\/story?id=109325932\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">ABC News<\/a>. <\/li>\n<li>A corporate lawyer from Oregon who reads the NYT, Google News, and the Wall Street Journal. The juror \u201csuggested that he could infer the former president\u2019s intent without \u2018reading his mind,&#8217;\u201d according to ABC News. <\/li>\n<li>A man who works in finance and follows Michael Cohen \u2014 <a href=\"https:\/\/www.politico.com\/news\/2024\/04\/14\/michael-cohen-credibility-trump-trial-00152122#:~:text=After%20his%20testimony%20in%20the,lawyers%20have%20fixated%20on%20Cohen\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">a convicted liar<\/a> and the prosecution\u2019s star witness<strong> <\/strong>\u2014 on social media. The juror also said he believes Trump did some good for the nation, The New York Times <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2024\/04\/18\/nyregion\/trump-trial-jury-hush-money.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">reported<\/a>. <\/li>\n<li>A lawyer who told the court he has \u201cpolitical views as to the Trump presidency\u201d in that he agrees with some policies but disagrees with others, according to The Times. <\/li>\n<li>A product development manager who said she did not like Trump\u2019s \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/Breaking911\/status\/1781064718330761377\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">persona<\/a>,\u201d according to ABC News. <\/li>\n<li>A female health care worker who enjoys faith-based podcasts.<\/li>\n<li>A woman who \u201cworks in an educational setting\u201d and acknowledged that because Trump \u201cwas our president, everyone knows who he is,\u201d according to The Times. <\/li>\n<li>A businessman who likes to listen to podcasts on behavioral psychology.<\/li>\n<li>A retired wealth manager<strong> <\/strong>who claims he has no opinions that would hinder his ability to be impartial.<\/li>\n<li>An engineer who said, \u201cNo, not really,\u201d when asked if he has strong feelings about Trump, according to the NYT.<\/li>\n<li>An English teacher from Harlem who appreciated Trump speaking \u201chis mind,\u201d according to ABC News.<\/li>\n<li>A female who works in technology and relies on the NYT, Google, Facebook and TikTok for news. According to the NYT, \u201cshe said she probably has different beliefs than Mr. Trump, but that \u2018this is a free country.\u2019\u201d<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Two jurors were struck Thursday, one who admitted her inability to be impartial and another who had a possible history of vandalizing conservative political posters. One female juror told the court \u201coutside influences\u201d could impact her decision-making and expressed concerns about her identity becoming public, according to the <a href=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/article\/trump-manhattan-stormy-daniels-michael-cohen-b514cb52bb31a82579cb827c40166173\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Associated Press<\/a> (AP). <\/p>\n<p>\u201cYesterday alone I had friends, colleagues and family push things to my phone regarding questioning my identity as a juror,\u201d the woman reportedly said. \u201cI don\u2019t believe at this point that I can be fair and unbiased and let the outside influences not affect my decision making in the courtroom.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>A second juror was dismissed after the prosecution argued he may have been dishonest about his past when he claimed he had never been arrested. \u201cProsecutors said they found an article about a person with the same name who had been arrested in the 1990s for tearing down posters pertaining to the political right in suburban Westchester County,\u201d the AP <a href=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/article\/trump-manhattan-stormy-daniels-michael-cohen-b514cb52bb31a82579cb827c40166173\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">reported<\/a>.<\/p>\n<div class=\"fdrlst__b89e9-8a9d5ae4c06af4a155477d0c954902c9 fdrlst__b89e9-paragraph-6\" id=\"fdrlst__b89e9-8a9d5ae4c06af4a155477d0c954902c9\"><\/div>\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Will These Jurors Deliver a \u2018Common Sense Judgment\u2019?<\/h2>\n<p>The Supreme Court <a href=\"https:\/\/supreme.justia.com\/cases\/federal\/us\/419\/522\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">held<\/a> in the 1975 case <em>Taylor v. Louisiana<\/em> that \u201cThe purpose of a jury is to guard against the exercise of arbitrary power \u2014 to make available the common sense judgment of the community as a hedge against the overzealous or mistaken prosecutor \u2026 or biased response of a judge.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The Sixth Amendment is designed to protect the accused from any arbitrary and capricious trials perpetrated by a weaponized government. A jury of the accused\u2019s peers is meant to check the power of the government, a right created in response to the British courts\u2019 habit of permitting judges to <a href=\"https:\/\/scholarlycommons.law.hofstra.edu\/cgi\/viewcontent.cgi?referer=&#038;httpsredir=1&#038;article=1958&#038;context=hlr\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">compel juries<\/a> to change their verdict if the outcome was not favored by the judge. <\/p>\n<p>But from what we know of the Manhattan jury pool, it\u2019s not clear these New Yorkers will be willing to check the government on a case that experts on both sides of the aisle have called \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/www.vox.com\/politics\/2023\/4\/4\/23648390\/trump-indictment-supreme-court-stormy-daniels-manhattan-alvin-bragg\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">dubious.<\/a>\u201d New York County, which encompasses Manhattan, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.politico.com\/2020-election\/results\/new-york\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">voted<\/a> for Joe Biden over Trump 87 percent to 12 percent in 2020.<\/p>\n<p>Trump\u2019s lawyer objected to one potential juror who posted a video of a crowd of people celebrating Biden\u2019s 2020 victory. Judge Juan Merchan decided to chastise Trump instead and <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2024\/04\/16\/us-news\/judge-accuses-trump-of-trying-to-intimidate-juror-called-to-clarify-posts-allegedly-showing-bias-toward-ex-prez\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">refused<\/a> to strike the potential juror for cause.<\/p>\n<div class=\"fdrlst__b89e9-24bf01a631177cbee34f5fe2e2bb1f41 fdrlst__b89e9-paragraph-10\" id=\"fdrlst__b89e9-24bf01a631177cbee34f5fe2e2bb1f41\"><\/div>\n<p>Another potential juror who was excused because of a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/trumps-peers-on-n-y-jury-get-news-from-the-propagandists-at-google-tiktok-new-york-times\/\" title=\"Trump's fellow jurors in New York rely on information from Google, TikTok, and the New York Times\">job conflict told reporters<\/a> outside of the courthouse that while she believes it is important for Trump to get a fair trial, she did not \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/abcnews.go.com\/US\/US\/4-big-takeaways-day-2-trumps-hush-money\/story?id=109324527\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">approve of what he did as president.<\/a>\u201c<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile of the dozen jurors selected, a number said they get their news from corporate media like The New York Times \u2014 one of the outlets that spent years disparaging Trump and <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2020\/07\/23\/new-fbi-notes-re-debunk-major-nyt-story-highlight-media-collusion-to-produce-russia-hoax\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">spreading<\/a> false information about him.<\/p>\n<p>Three NYT reporters won <a href=\"https:\/\/www.pulitzer.org\/winners\/staffs-new-york-times-and-washington-post\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">Pulitzer Prizes<\/a> for their \u201creporting\u201d on the Russia-collusion hoax, which they based on anonymous sources. But FBI official Peter Strzok, who ran the investigation into the alleged collusion, privately acknowledged the report was <a href=\"https:\/\/www.justice.gov\/storage\/durhamreport.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">filled<\/a> with \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/www.nationalreview.com\/news\/declassified-strzok-notes-debunk-2017-new-york-times-article-on-trump-campaign-russia-collusion\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">misleading and inaccurate<\/a>\u201d <a href=\"https:\/\/www.judiciary.senate.gov\/press\/rep\/releases\/judiciary-committee-releases-declassified-documents-that-substantially-undercut-steele-dossier-page-fisa-warrants\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">information<\/a>, as <a href=\"https:\/\/thefederalist.com\/2020\/07\/23\/new-fbi-notes-re-debunk-major-nyt-story-highlight-media-collusion-to-produce-russia-hoax\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">pointed out<\/a> by The Federalist\u2019s Mollie Hemingway. <\/p>\n<p>Other jurors cited Google as a news source. Google \u201cinterfered\u201d in elections at least 41 times over the past 16 years to harm candidates \u201cwho threatened [Google\u2019s] left-wing candidate of choice,\u201d a study from the Media Research Center <a href=\"https:\/\/www.foxnews.com\/media\/google-interfered-elections-41-times-last-16-years-media-research-center-says\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">found<\/a>.
