It advanced 0.4% from February and 3.8% from the year before.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u201cThe recent data have clearly not given us greater confidence and instead indicate that is likely to take longer than expected to achieve that confidence,\u201d Powell said. \u201cGiven the strength of the labor market and progress on inflation so far, it is appropriate to allow restrictive policy further time to work and let the data and the evolving outlook guide us.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400\">Powell has been blamed for saying <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/investors-turn-bearish-raising-cash-and-increasingly-fearing-a-hard-landing-bofa-survey\/\" title=\"Investors grow bearish, hoard cash, and fear a hard landing: BofA survey.\">interest-rate cuts<\/a> would be forthcoming, thus catalyzing economic activity.<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u201cThey just got the inflation picture wrong,\u201d Stephen Stanley, chief US economist at Santander US Capital Markets LLC, told <a href=\"https:\/\/www.bloomberg.com\/news\/articles\/2024-04-17\/inflation-s-stubborn-start-to-2024-blamed-partly-on-powell-pivot?embedded-checkout=true\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Bloomberg<\/a>. \u201cThe mistake they made was they got really enamored with the combination of really strong growth and benign inflation that we saw in the second half of last year.\u201d<\/p>\n<p style=\"font-weight: 400\">Another cause of stubborn inflation has been the lack of available housing.
