We will continue to govern under the existing rules,\u201d Johnson added.<\/p>\n<p>The decision has made several senior Republicans upset, <a href=\"https:\/\/punchbowl.news\/archive\/41924-punchbowl-news-am\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" title=\"according to\">according to<\/a> <em>Punchbowl News<\/em>, with one senior House GOP aide saying a rule change \u201cwould have brought real stability to the House.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe [motion to vacate] rule change would have completely shifted the power dynamics within the GOP conference in the way that the vast majority of members have been begging for,\u201d the aide said. \u201cIt would have immediately disarmed the bad actors so that they could no longer hold the conference hostage week in and week out.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The rule allowing one member of the House Republican Conference to bring a motion to vacate the speaker was one of several concessions former House Speaker Kevin McCarthy made in January 2023 to secure the speakership after a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/biden-impeachment-inquiry-mtg-pushes-back-on-gaetzs-claim-he-pressured-mccarthy-for-weeks\/\" title=\"Biden impeachment inquiry: MTG disputes Gaetz's assertion of pressuring McCarthy for 'weeks'.\">lengthy speaker election<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The motion to vacate rule was triggered against him by Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA) filed a motion to vacate against Johnson last month but did not do so as a privileged resolution, meaning it does not require immediate action. Only one other Republican, Rep.
