Rufo \u2694\ufe0f (@realchrisrufo) <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/realchrisrufo\/status\/1780597079439446250?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw\">April 17, 2024<\/a><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p>\u201c\u2018Free and open\u2019 has the best of intentionality, but in the end what \u2018free and open\u2019 often ended up doing, and particularly in the case of Wikipedia, was recapitulating many of the same <a href=\"https:\/\/www.conservativenewsdaily.net\/breaking-news\/mainstream-media-and-big-techs-seismic-shift-to-the-left\/\" title=\"Mainstream Media and Big Tech\u2019s Seismic Shift to the Left\">power structures<\/a> and dynamics that exist offline, prior to the advent of the internet,\u201d Maher said.<\/p>\n<p>One of the problems with Wikipedia is the way it relies on a \u201cwritten tradition\u201d and \u201creliable sources,\u201d Maher said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cYou see the exclusion of communities, of languages because of the ways in which Wikipedia is based on reliable sources. The idea of a written tradition, which is particular to some cultures and not to others,\u201d the former Wikimedia CEO said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe ways in which we ascribe notability often really comes from sort of this white, male, Westernized construct around who matters in societies and who is elevated and whose voices. And so some of these ideas of sort of this radical openness really did not end up living into the intentionality of what openness can be,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n<p>X owner Elon Musk responded to the clip, <a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/elonmusk\/status\/1780962477011796287\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">posting<\/a>, \u201cThat\u2019s literally the point of Wikipedia.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Maher has recently come under fire from conservatives after a former NPR editor blew the whistle on the outlet\u2019s liberal bias. Former editor Uri Berliner resigned Wednesday after NPR suspended him.<\/p>\n<p>In the wake of the NPR editor\u2019s accusations, a slew of since-deleted tweets and previous statements from Maher have surfaced, adding fuel to the outrage.<\/p>\n<p>In another clip posted by Rufo, Maher says she is interested in how we can \u201cimmerse ourself in good information,\u201d not just \u201cstamp out bad information.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>In yet another clip, Maher says the \u201cnumber one challenge\u201d for her in fighting disinformation is the First Amendment, which she calls a \u201cfairly robust protection of rights.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt also means that it is a little bit tricky to really address some of the real challenges of where does bad information come from,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n<p>She has been accused of expressing explicitly biased views in her previous tweets.<\/p>\n<p>In 2018, Maher <a href=\"https:\/\/nypost.com\/2024\/04\/13\/us-news\/nprs-new-ceo-katherine-mahers-woke-tweets-arise-as-editor-claims-bias\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">posted<\/a>, \u201cDonald Trump is a racist.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>In 2020 she wrote, \u201cI mean, sure, looting is counterproductive.
